I LOVE TH-cam for these reasons! I never thought I'd see these legends on film! If anyone has anymore videos of these legends, please share it to the world as they're PRICELESS treasures!
Mifune RULES...........and Cool to see Kimura demostrate a "Kimura lock"... And I never thought I could see footage of Kano himself...Great Video...5 stars
@vancouverism I couldn't agree more!!! THIS is the REAL reason TH-cam was put together! Sharing this, these techniques, these stories of World History. INCREDIBLE!!!
they used to say no judo before Kimura ..no judo after Kimura no doubt one of the greats . however ; Kisaburo Watanbe in the 50's-60's uremura in the 70's ,sumio endo and yashiro yamashita and katsuhiro kashiwazki were the best in the 80's-90's !...saw them in 1981 maastricht ...unbelievable
@VCthaGOATdunker Only if you look at it from the angle of 'modern competition'. I consider Kyuzo Mifune was the one who really represented the spirit of judo.
You can truly sense Master Mifune's expertise and inner strenght just by his look at the end of the video. A true Master of the Art of Judo. The '' God of Judo''
@ersc4 Sorry I don't quite understand what you meant by that modern competition thing, could you elaborate? I consider Kimura the best because of his dominance and I'd choose him to beat any Judoka in history.
@VCthaGOATdunker You might be right concerning Kimura's dominance. But his judo was very much based on power. There could always come someone heavier and more powerful. This is quite different from Jigoro Kano's vision of "maximum efficiency, minimum effort".
kimura, in fact, beated helio gracie... but kimura was younger and heaviest than helio. kimura is for shure a judo legend, but helio is the jiu jitsu, how's now a days, maker...
@ersc4 You're wrong, he also had all the technique in the world, it wasn't just brute power. That's why he's the best. You can only come so far with technique alone, sooner or later someone who has that as well as more strength and athleticism will have the edge. Kimura would have beaten Mifune convincingly.
@VCthaGOATdunker Did you ever study judo? Probably not. You should know that Mifune measured 5' 2" and 100 lb and Kimura 5' 7" and 187 lb. Or for instance Yasuhiro Yamashita 5' 11" and over 280 lb. Do you think they are in the same weight class? Please study judo and do some reading, it might help...
I can bet that u don't know what you are saying and that you have never trained judo before, I'm still trying to imagine or contemplate how a bjj fighter would beat a judoka on the ground so easily, infact I fear for the bjj fighter instead, judo fighters are trained to quickly kill or escape from the ground but bjj fighters are trained to romance and relax while fighting on the ground, bjj is really fake compared to judo, don't say what u don't know again

Great video. Wank song choice. Last samurai theme would of been perfect but apart from that, great video bro
Mifune is an amazing individual.......could you imagine what it would of been like to work with him?
@VCthaGOATdunker You might be right concerning Kimura's dominance. But his judo was very much based on power. There could always come someone heavier and more powerful. This is quite different from Jigoro Kano's vision of "maximum efficiency, minimum effort".
Kyuzo Mifune 4:08 was from Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture in Japan. He lived his entire adult life until his death in Tokyo.

Kimura was the best one ever.
This is Judo legend
whats the name of the last soundtrack?
"stuck in the middle with you"
Mifune's technique is obviously perfect, but 90% of the movements of his students are non-aggressive and entirely passive.
kimura was only 5 kg heavier than helio , helio was 38 at the time 180 cm and 80kg kimura was 34 at the time 170 cm and 85kg
@carlos0259774 What I would not give to reach even the level he was at as a Shodan!!! AMAZING technique!
