Its about the NBA not having hardly ANY player that actually defend. Luka scoring 73 is great but it also not a suprise, I expect him to score 100 soon because no one wants to put forth EFFORT.
@jiggafromstatefarm9997 Jalen famously guarded Kobe 1 on 1 for long stretches of that game. Way more than you would ever think. The rule changes make it so you can't compare the two really. In 2006, hand checking was gone but still transitioning out and way tougher to score with crowded lanes and actual physicality. Can really only honestly compare games to Luka's within the last few years.
Actually none of these folks actually watched the gamw, they don't know what they're talking about. The Hawks had multiple different coverages, made adjustments, they were doubling him on every touch in the half court in Q3 and Q4 and they were denying him the ball everywhere. The man still lit them up, never forced any plays or jack up shots over 2 defenders, and won them the game. You can't have a better game than this on the offensive end, that was flawless and it's a true all-time individual performance
Sheryl knows what she talks of. And probably watched the game. The defense was laxing, as it normally is in today's league. That makes it hard to compare the performance with Kobe's 81 point game and other great performances in other eras.
@@penkima4923lol, check out old video "story time with Jalen Rose", where he talked about Kobe's 81. They played zone the whole time, didn't double team him, coach benched Rose when he tried to post up Kobe on offense to wear him down.
Luka's game was the most efficient out of all games over 70. Luka had 7 assists, all other games over 70 together total 8 assists. He wasn't trying for points, close game he was trying to win. Media can hate this man all they want, he'll will eventually get his.
It bothers them because he is white, this conversation wouldn't be happening if Luka was black. Until now, everyone who reached 70+ was spoken of as Gods, but now that Luka has reached it, something is bothering them. They talk about defense, although the Hawks played defense on Luka, maybe not the best in some offense, but they played it and in the second half they doubled and even tripled him all the time, but Luka still played the most efficient 70+ game in history, but they still don't give him the credit he deserves. Shame on you.
Luka scored 50+ points over the best defensive players in the league, at the age of 20 he tormented the Clippers in the first playoff game, who had at least three top defensive players in the lineup and made a 43 pt triple double on them, and scored a buzzer beater in the last second, so this guy who is talking about what he would do, it is clear that he would do shit, because Luka would also score a 50+ triple double on him. Some people just can't understand that Luka is different and that he is a generational talent, the type of player like they have never seen before. These frustrations are really abnormal, and the hypocrisy and double standards are obvious.
@@zoranmarkovic1123 Nah tbf Kenyon agreed they can't stop them, and that offenses/offensive players are much better, he just wants them to try a bit more, he doesn't want stops, he just wants them to force adjustments more...
Nobody cares he's white, we care that todays era has no defense and it's easier than ever to score, so by default we have to shave off 20 points if we compare the performance to past eras. And Luka was drafted in 2018 when the NBA already started handcuffing defenses (The NBA started handcuffing defenders in 2015 or 2016), so when you talk about the "best defenders", those defenders were only able to play defense at like 50-60% of what they could actually do if this was the mid 00s or the early 2010's when the league allowed players to play legit defense

Every great scoring performance was against the worst defenses in the nba but unlike everyone else Luka had 7 assists and shot 76 % from the field and was by far far far the most efficient player of all time scoring more than 60pts!

She doesn’t even pay attention to the player profile she just throws out bold statements because it’s the era she was active in, players say a lot of stupid shit due to their egos and legacies like look at Paul Pierce or Perk it makes them former basketball players who like to brag but definitely not wiser. If you want to listen to a true expert listen to what Pop has to say about Luka because that man has seen all eras from an analytic standpoint.
Luka has been the best player in the league for a couple of seasons now and not just with his scoring but assists and rebounds. Stephan A. and Perk hate the fact that Luka is who he is / what he is. When Luka wins MVP they will be outraged and won’t give him his flowers
The Raptors' defense was the 2nd worst in the league when Kobe cooked. Kobe was hunting too, while the Mavs needed everything Luka did to win the game against Atlanta. It was a much more natural performance All high scoring outputs are going to be against bad defenses, but Luka is going to make every defense look worse than it is. He is unguardable and is the most doubled guy in the Association. . All the rage about defenses today got much louder when Luka got 73 . The other performances didn't spark any of the post-Luka game dialogue. Embiid was universally praised when he put up 70 against the last place Spurs. Clearly many are finding Luka hard to accept as one of, if not the best player(s) in the world. He's been doing this since he was drafted and just finding another ceiling every year. If he stays healthy he will be a top 10 all time guy.
@@ichirosuzuki2252 You went a tad too far. Jalen Johnson is a bad defender, on a bad defensive team, in a bad defensive era. That's why it's hard to compare Luka's performance with, say, Kobe's 81. And he could make it to my top-3, because I don't just count rings like everyone else.
Pick one of many you could argue for Wilt having the most dominant game ever. This one is especially impressive - The only NBA player in history to record (unofficially as the NBA did not record blocks or steals during this time) a quintuple-double is Wilt Chamberlain. He did it as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers on March 18, 1968. Chamberlain dropped 53 points, 32 rebounds, 14 assists, 24 blocks, and 11 steals in a game against the LA Lakers. The 76ers came away with a 158-128 win.
Bruh.. Kobe dropped 62 in 3 quarters. Outscored the WHOLE Mavericks team 62-61 through 3 quarters.. mind you that mavericks team went to the finals that year.
Gotta love the old heads...It looks too easy because Luka makes it look too easy. Kobe's 81 was nowhere near as efficient as Luka's 73. And I love Kobe.
Luka making everyone hate on him cause how good he is... unbelievable. Luka hits every game the most difficult shots, every freaking game. He is doubled the entire game most of the time, he is still giving 10 assists per game, his teammates get paid a lot because he allow them to shoot open almost all the time, he can go to the basket, finish with both hands, middle range is deadly, post game is better than 95% of centres in the league, euro steps, flotters, magic shots every game... and in play offs he always improves his stats. The dude is the best offensive player in the league, only Embid and Jokic are close to him. However Embid chokes a bit in post season. Anyway, keep doubting greatness just because the dude is white and European. Time will tell.
But according to him "real basketball people know Kyrie is the better player" 😂 bro hates that a white boy from Europe dominates like that. The same for Gilbert
Not realizing that the fact it looked easy is due to Luka skills is crazy. You'll see a lot of media members diminishing his performance. You won't see a single NBA player who went to 50-60 points doing the same, and that's because the KNOW how hard it is to get 60 points in whatever era and against whatever team and defense.
If we're comparing the greatest scoring performances, Jordans 61 vs the Celtics is way more impressive. Jordans 61 back then is probably 100 today. It's so easy to score now, Luka's 73 is 50 in the mid 00s
@@stevens1-o7s Kobe's 81 was against a joke of a defense who didn't double him even once in a blowout game, and also it was like 48 shots. Meanwhile Luka did it getting doubled all the 4th quarter and while assisting his teammates in 15 less shots and without grinding for FTA at the end of the match. Defense was shit in some games back then too, but 3-pt specialists were scarce unlike right now and that opens the defense and the paint a lot since it forces the defense to cover corner 3s up close instead of waiting near the paint.
Bunch of mediocre ex nba players hating on a white 24 year old from europe dominating the league. Very bitter they were trash compared to luca who is white
Yall should go watch it. Lol they trapped the pick and roll and he was generating wide open shots layups and 3s. So they stopped doing it because at least they could get a hand up if they switched. Lol
They just need to give Luka props and stop hating. Luka was 25-33 on FG’s for 76%! He also nearly had a 70 point trip double! Stop it! A lot of these players on the Hawks and other teams are more athletic, can jump higher, are faster, and they still can’t stop Luka who plays at his own pace.
Its still Wilt. But Luka is on the way. If he continues to stack 30/8/8 seasons like he's doing he's gonna end up a top 10 player and if he gets some accolades he may be the goat.
I don't think he will win a ring in the coming few years. And it could be that he never will. That could mean in general consensus he ends up outside of top-15. While he's probably top-5 in reality.

I luv listening to Ur show & take on all this Gil!!! As for the woman tellin us about how to defend Luka...perhaps she or even Kenyon should try guardin him! LOL
Thank you k mart "they were trying to stop him" referring to kobe I can't stand when people say the defense is weaker .... like they're just not contesting, not fouling, not chasing around screens... When are WE as a basketball community going to realize offenses, strategies, coaching, players .... just got better ... the league is figuring out how to get the best shots, the best percentages, etc ... evolution ... its harder to guard today's basketball with all these moves.... a legit argument can be about the rules and officiating bc rules change and refs call differently... allow more steps (gather) when shooting etc ... that the past players couldn't do .... which does what? Makes guarding someone harder lol .... logic people .... not WEAKER DEFENSES than those before us.... hacking and hard fouls thay ppl speak about in the "old days" isn't defense 😂
You're correct, the 'no defense' argument is definitely biased. As defenses became less physical and rules changed, defensive schemes became smarter and more versatile and the players changed becoming WAY more athletic alongside tall 6'7 guards, etc. Imagine watching Steph light up a 2003 NBA defense; they wouldn't know what to do. Offenses have never been more more efficient and skilled and we're seeing it as a reflection in the stats. People fall in love with their era, in 10 years people will be talking about how LeBron played basketball like a man and went against dominant players and in 20 years people will be talking about how Luka and Wemby 'played the game the right way' or innovated or whatever argument people come up as the game evolves into what knows.
Call me crazy but if Ja Morant had put up those stats exactly like Luka did it wouldn't be because the defense was trash, but because of how good Ja was. Luka was that efficient and got to his spots that easy because he is that fucking good.
He brought that up because they’re talking about what it’s like when you score that high. He even praised Kobe saying he played great defense but he was so hot playing on a completely different level that it didn’t bother him. Every other player has described it the exact same way too.
@@gilbertbecerra3107 I saw that game, Gil was closer to 40 points when Kobe started guarding him toward the end of the forth quarter. Kobe sent the game to overtime. Gil had more energy to finish with his big 3. Smush guarded Gil most that game but Gil lied saying he didn't.

Luka makes it look easy because nobody know where his going to pass to right or left corner, to his back or turn around , fadeaway or go straight to the basket, he makes players doubt , and his the best in history doing that. I have seen player making very harsh fouls every night from every team, because thats the only way they find to guard him. Last night he did 45 to Banchero and the Wagners, not an easy bunch, and he manage to make three of his teamates score 20 or more. Luka is the best, if it were any other American player doing that, the whole media machine and the official NBA would be screaming and clapping and adoring the guy.
And it is more than "no big guys back there." Imagine Shaq out on the baseline corner having to defend a center with a deep three! He can wait for Luka in the key if he wants to, but his team will get hammered.
Man if u watch modern basketball and claim it’s harder to score or they even try to to play defense, your opinion shouldn’t even count 🤣 nba defense is watching someone score first person 🤣
Gil scored 60...33 on Kobe kobe guarded Gil but gil never attempted to guard Kobe's...Luka wasnt even doubled team lay up after uncontested lay up bravo for the 70+ pts
What makes Luka’s 73 so impressive is that they literally could not stop him. And could’ve easily got 80 if he really wanted to. Kobe’s 81 was so legendary because the Lakers needed all 81 of those points with that trash ass roster, the defense was much tighter, and he got the 81 within the flow of the game. Luka IS his offense. Kobe was the Lakers offense as well, but that was during the era where you gave Chris Minm Or Kwame Brown a post up touch because….. well… because they’re big and that’s just what you did. If Kobe played today he would’ve had another 81 point outburst. He’d average more than 35ppg. He’d also average more assist. It’s a lot of players that would benefit of the pace/play style in the modern day NBA, and oddly enough Kobe would be at the top of the list

And Luka was drafted in 2018 when the NBA already started handcuffing defenses (The NBA started handcuffing defenders in 2015 or 2016), so when you talk about the "best defenders", those defenders were only able to play defense at like 50-60% of what they could actually do if this was the mid 00s or the early 2010's when the league allowed players to play legit defense

this commentary, especially the woman and K Martin, is drenched with low key resentment that Luka is not a brotha
so obvious
They have resentment towards today's game, not Luka. Because there's no defense played.
It’s weird because most fans and media tend to be victims of recency bias, so it’s interesting to see the opposite with Luka’s performance.
Luka has been the best player in the league for a couple of seasons now and not just with his scoring but assists and rebounds. Stephan A. and Perk hate the fact that Luka is who he is / what he is. When Luka wins MVP they will be outraged and won’t give him his flowers
Luka won't win the MVP, until the Mavs make a trade and get a better record.
Jalen Johnson didn't evne play him that bad. He contested a lot of the shots pretty decently. Luka is just insanely good.
@@ichirosuzuki2252 You went a tad too far. Jalen Johnson is a bad defender, on a bad defensive team, in a bad defensive era. That's why it's hard to compare Luka's performance with, say, Kobe's 81. Pick one of many you could argue for Wilt having the most dominant game ever. This one is especially impressive -
The only NBA player in history to record (unofficially as the NBA did not record blocks or steals during this time) a quintuple-double is Wilt Chamberlain. He did it as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers on March 18, 1968. Chamberlain dropped 53 points, 32 rebounds, 14 assists, 24 blocks, and 11 steals in a game against the LA Lakers.
