Was it not £50 per week ( the. Bf contribution). My view get the debt done as otherwise risks growing. Short term pain for long term gain. Cut up the credit card after - it’s the worst one as Ira says. £8k for a carpet sound steep, worth shopping around. Hope this helps best of luck x

This is gonna sound so awful of me but is it ok for UC recipients to save an emergency fund in cash? If it’s not in a bank would the govt know? At least just enough so the person won’t have to go back into debt in case something were to happen god forbid

You can but be careful about keeping a lot of cash in the house. Because of theft or God forbid Fire . As long as under £6000 you can have it in the bank. Over £6000 if it affects your benefits.

6k is quite a lot for carpets. I would go into some of the smaller carpet conpanies and ralk to them about roll ends and off cuts. If you have a small room you can save quite a lot. If you are only doing a box room I would also think about a large rug with underlay underneath. You may be able to pick this up cheap from places like facebook market place.

The electric isn’t that high if she isn’t working and there is often 4 of them in the house. I pay £80 a month for just me in a one bed flat. She wants to save for carpets and emergncy fund up to £6000. That’s amount before Uc starting deductions for savings.

🧡 I'd be contacting the bank for an interest holiday from the overdraft, they do it for 3 months, so at least what you pay on the OD is actually coming off it .
Id be interested in seeing the real time scale of paying these debts off, as theyre such high interest that whats set out here isnt actually coming off that total. X

Uc doesn't help with gas or electric. But if you get a smart meter it can work out cheaper.
I agree that is a lot to pay for gas and electric does the person owe money from emergency plus none payments with their account/ company

Good Budget Bestie. I agree with a lot that you outlined, but I personally would want some kind of Emergency Fund, even if it wasn't a whole lot. I have questions about the carpet--can that be delayed while saving a little money for emergencies? Getting rid of the card debt is definitely a top priority, and as was mentioned, get rid of the cards!🧡🧡

If the boyfriend's living with them regularly he should be contributing more than 50 per month, esp with the amount of debt she's carrying .
There are some unknowns that could change some things.

Great budget bestie. I still love this series. I would definitely get rid of the high interest debt and get rid of that credit card. 🧡🧡

  • @Tinasbudgeting

See my emergency fund would be 9k (9k challenge? Gonna work well for that) but if in an emergency my mum would stop charging me board and lodgings so I’d be saving an extra £500 a month so it’d really only be £4.5k (my yellow 4.5k envelopes is really going to help with that iykyk 😂)
I think I’d aim for the 9k though. Because aiming higher is always good for situations like that, however I’ve got a spending problem. If it’s in my account, it’s spendable. It’s harder to personally spend anything in cash, so saving like that is have to keep it in £50 notes at least for a while.
Another great budget bestie, I’d get those cards gone asap then I would burn the actual card after it’s paid off and be like “see ya satan” 😂😂
