- Director Jacques Audiard and cast members Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, and Édgar Ramírez discuss Emilia Pérez, a Spotlight selection of the 62nd New York Film Festival, with FLC assistant programmer Madeline Whittle. Learn more: www.filmlinc.o...
From the moment it introduces its titular antiheroine, a Mexican drug-cartel boss seeking gender-affirming surgery, this boldly genre-dissolving tour de force is predicated on the power of astonishing transformations. The most ambitious and exuberant film to date by Jacques Audiard, one of contemporary cinema’s most versatile filmmakers, Emilia Pérez is at once a darkly funny crime drama and a jaw-dropping musical, powered by a quartet of superb actors-Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz-whose fearless performances defy every expectation. Winner of the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where its four leads also shared the Best Actress prize. A Netflix release.
Emilia Pérez opens in select theaters on November 1 and will premiere on Netflix on November 13, courtesy of Netflix.

En México no están muy contentos con esta película y no me extraña
26:27 You say you studied... The truth is it must have been a couple of times and with a lot of mediocrity because your accent doesn’t come close to any region in Mexico. And I mean any region because the words, the style, and the accents in all 32 regions of this TRULY DIVERSE AND SPECTACULAR NATION are very different.
The "curse words" you use seem like they were learned from a Korean who just discovered Tepito… (but narcos are usually from the north, and they would never use that accent or those words).
But well, what can we say? It’s a mediocre, arrogant movie that thinks tackling a subject based on foreign stereotypes from hegemonic nations has anything to do with Mexico… I didn’t expect more from a director whose career is a product of NEPOTISM.
Selena Gomez looks so smart and cute with her cool glasses. So glad she's so happy and in the best place in her life right, she's the best human being. ♥️🤗
Only gays defend selena😂
ms. gascon is unforgettable as emilia perez! flawless performance. mesmerizing.
Just so you know: what they are representing in that film is not Mexico, but their delusions about that country
Go away weirdo
Edgar's accent is delicious. This whole cast is amazing. Bravo Karla!!
This movie is VERY offensive to Mexicans on so many levels; I wish the director had tried harder to do his homework on a very sensitive topic for us. When people applaud him, it is because they don't know how it is really happening and clearly are not victims of so many parents of the cartels. Shame on them.
Actually what is wrong with this movie somebody please explain..
@@basilpaulose4364Nothing ! It’s just saying the truth !
I know right ? I mean I don’t go into a cartel - musical involving dance sequences and singing and expect it to be a thought provoking analysis on the drug cartel and its relation to world problems. The sound of music was set in Nazi occupied Switzerland they didn’t go into the study of the horrors of the holocaust it was just set in that background.
The redemption of a drug lord to the level of saint/savoir of their own victims, it is naive at its best, selfish at its worst. Superficial but pretty colors.
awful how they treat mexican reality
I'll give it a shot...15 minutes...I was hooked at the first minute and cannot even pause to go to the bathroom. It is mesmerizing, captivating, and the ultimate emotional rollercoaster!
Everybody, you will be transformed after viewing this. Do yourself a favor! I am going to go watch it five more times!
😊😊😊
i clicked on this video because of Zoe Saldana
first film i saw of hers was Center Stage which remains a 10/10 classic!
it's interesting listening to this interview because not having seen Emilia Pérez but having recently watched Joker Folie a Deux --- and loving it --- i feel a lot of what they are saying here can be translated to the intent of Folie a Deux, it's surreal
SELENA WE LOVE YOUUUU
Esta version de Selena mas madura ME ENCANTA!
10:29 Can someone tell me what Karla said please? 🙏🏾
With you too? I think she was implying more than friends 🤭
So bizarre that Film Comment viciously trashed the film during their Cannes (or Toronto?) coverage
She asking if Selena got the role by spending the night with Jaq too
Will it release in asia?
Hope so
Yes it will
@@tothelakes when will it?
This movie is Amazing..what an incredible work from these talented and brillant persons here. ❤
a very gorgeous film
🎉 long live to cinematicmusic
Looks negative and horrible
Do something about hard-working people saving the animals and earth
Sick of films about darkness and sex
He would speak if you the interviewer let him!
Everybody calm down. It is a movie. If you want reality, real people, real drug cartel story, real mexican dialects or whatever, just go there, or watch documentary. Its a movie. Lots of movies not done in its natural real place.
It's not whether the story is real or not because in the end it is in Mexico
The problem is that the director did not take a minute to study the situation in Mexico, drug trafficking is such a delicate subject and turning it into a musical romantic story, It is a real insult to the families of the victims who die every day in the country due to this difficult situation, many of you may not have the slightest idea of how horrible it is to go through a case of disappearances and kidnappings.
Let's add that this film is full of stereotypes about Mexicans, this is simply a real offense to the Mexican country
@@ThomasKirby-ub4vyIt’s not that the representation isn’t’ perfect. The representation is actively bad. The movie plays into harmful narratives about the trans experience.
Emilia Perez was really great. I was quite perplexed by the concept of a musical drama but it was a nice surprise. Kudos to Selena, Zoe, Adrianna and Karla !
Did Karla Flick him off?!? Lmao! :D

Amazing cast and amazing movie!
Wonderful, captivating movie that surprise us by minute. One of the best movies I have seen this year.
Just watched this wonderful driven film Elisa Perez. I was in awe throughout the whole show due to the fast pace from beginning to end. All the twists and turns left me breathless. I continually enjoy watching Zoe in all performances, and was spellbound by Karla's portrayal as both male and female as she showed what she went through in order to complete the process she wanted and needed since childhood. I did not know how brutal Mexican criminal executioners were to it's people. It's too similar to Hitler's horror with the Jews. I see many Oscar's in store for the cast and movie. I didn't quite understand why these basically innocent people were so brutally murdered and buried and some dismembered soas not to be found. . An incredible emotionally stirring completely surprising extraordinarily profound beautifully captivating stellar casting stunningly performed powerful dramatical choreographic musical approach to storytelling complex personal journeys underpinned by horrific cartel realities.
