The line "Running from the man that I was and the one he's becoming" is in reference to the events of the game. I won't spoil much, just that throughout the game Kratos is trying to teach his son to be a warrior, but control his anger to avoid becoming a monster. But once the boy finds out he's part god, he starts acting... for lack of better phrasing, like Kratos did in previous games. He becomes more spiteful, quick to anger, and stops caring about those who call him a friend, and Kratos has to find a way to steer the boy away from this path before Atreus follows his father's old path and becomes a monster
