You know why most reviewers don’t review honestly? It is because the social media platforms work against us. Amazon literally shadow banned my honest reviews and I may never be able to post another one unless I write it exactly they want it to be written. You are not even permitted to talk about the delivery 🚚 process or the packaging the item came in anymore. Social media apps hate honest reviews.
Funny how people really think they can differ what is an honest, less honest or fake review. So being more negative and using harsh words makes it honest? So if someone gets the drone for free the review is not honest? Come on - opinions are based on each one's very personal interpretation - being the reviewer on the product, or the audience on the reviewer.....
For me it is very suspicious if a reviewer points out several times in the video how honest he is in comparison to all of his "competitors" - why not just doing your review? Oh, getting a side kick from DJI on wearing their wrist band on a close shot? 5:08 ;-))
Honesty in videos is HIGHLY appreciated. It shows integrity. Too many YTers get free stuff from manufacturers, and their videos are just "rah rah rah" even if they know that there are major issues with what they're flying.

I too would have normally passed but I wanted to jump on board because it fits exactly what I do. Review the issues and follow them along the way. Most don’t understand that so I gain and lose people just like this quad does it’s issue with firmware updates.

It’s got several firmware update fixes so you have time. Hold tight and once it actually leaves Hong Kong it will move quickly. They have such a delayed mail system there.

Well, if image quality at night and weight isn't everything that counts for you, then you might prefer the Air 2s. The Air 2s, on the other hand does cost more and weighs (more than) twice as much, but does offer better flight experience (except for the geofencing thing) und obstacle avoidance.
@@ZamhoidnLA the biggest thing for me is geofencing. Price point they’re close enough. Biggest thing that stood out to me about the nano+ was the advertised 50 megapixel photos but it the thing doesn’t fly right it’s not worth it. Most places I fly I don’t have to worry about geofencing however I do want to get into real estate photography with a drone. After I get my part 107 it really won’t matter much about the weight of the drone.
I think that this is a good drone but for specific creators… the Air2s is more of a Value for MOST creators
low light image quality on nano+ is much much better. Like a lot. Camera blows dji cameras out of the water.

Your bring up so many great points about this drone, thanks for being so thorough with it. The video jello issue makes of little interest to me, until they get it sorted out, if they ever do. And I agree with your point about why by a sub 250 gram drone in the US and sacrifice so much, when for a little more money you can get a Air 2S. And just pay the $5 to register, or get your Part 107, and forget about the weight. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

A brilliant review, thank you. I have a Mini 2 and was tempted by the prospect of a better camera, but I shall stick with what I have and see what the next incarnation DJI release brings. As a hobbyist it’s probably fair to say I don’t really need to change at all.
You are one of a very few Drone reviewers who tell it as it REALLY is. Most of the others are only concerned with their affiliate commissions, rush to get their reviews out before others and fudge issues the drones may have. Autel would have been better sending you a prerelease model than sending out freebies to Guys who are only interested in selling their product. Thanks you are a credit to the industry.

Great review. Was waiting to see what you think. I have the Mini 2 and would of been great to have a better camera and obstacle avoidance but at that price, I think I'll wait to see mini 3. I'm in the Uk so as you know we have less restrictions on this size drone. Still loving my Mavic Air2 but do like the look of the Evo Lite+. Keep up great honest reviews 👍
Ostacle detection is overrated. It would make sense if it is absolutely reliable, which is not even the case with Skydio 2, although there it is working quite good already. And still then I would miss side sensors to protect the drone while orbiting an object or active tracking a moving object from the side. And stereo cameras cannot detect horizontal objects such as power lines, as both cameras will see the same image. And finally, there is a high risk with direct sun light into the cameras, which may be interpreted as an obstacle, leading to an abrupt stop of the drone. This can even cause your drone getting lost if it will happen during a RTH.

Great video Ken!! When pixel peeping, I'm seeing tons of "studdering" regions, mostly on the high detail foliage, brush and branches parts. I have done a lot of noise reduction modeling in the past 5 years and this screams to me to be; Massive,..gargantuan,...epic amounts of temporal noise reduction. As you might know, temporal noise algorithms inspect multiple frames and compare the noise forward and backward in time across multiple frames together. It's a powerful way of separating random noise from fixed pattern noise. The stronger it's applied, the more those high detail "chunks" get crushed and mangled. It's hard to say for sure over TH-cam but those choppy, chunky, clustered artifacts on high-frequency segments....is probably just WAY too much temporal noise filter being applied. That temporal filter is just beating the crap out of it. If Autel backed it off in the firmware, yes, there would be more noise but those artifacts could disappear or fade substantially. Live, real-time, In-camera noise reduction will NEVER be as accurate or surgical as the tools we have in our editors in post-production.

@@Louisianahelicam - This can happen to "any" camera when a company just cranks the Hell out of it's noise reduction processing. Autel did this on the EVO-II just as badly. They are soooo worried about showing noise that they smash the image as hard as they can to kill any and all noise. Remember, noise reduction is a destructive process. Once it's baked in, it's artifacts can never, ever be pulled out in post. Not even the biggest Hollywood post-production with a billion-dollar budget can recover that image.
@@clifftotten7609 Indeed, aggressive NR totally makes sense. I thought the image looks oversharpened but was hoping there are settings to dial it down. Apparently there aren't. I might be able to live with the lousy wind resistance but not with this kind of image (to my eyes even Mini 2 footage looks better). I wonder what is the native ISO of the sensor and if sticking to it would help with the issue.
Have you had a look at the raw image files though? taking a jpeg SOC is okay for the beginner but really, we should be using raw

@@clifftotten7609 It's not the brand, or the processing, it's the sensor size. Doesn't hold a candle to what I'm handing my customers from large DSLR's.
This is decent enough for low hanging fruit work (real estate).

I was thinking I needed to send my NANO in for service. But it sounds like the failure to fly forward isn't unique to my particular drone. Most of the time it flys OK, but today I had to fly back to my position in reverse because there was no response to forward input from the stick.

Horizon tilt will also show up when the side wind is too high and the drone has to bank to a side to compensate for the wind. You can see that in action if you do a 360 turn and the horizon tilt will shift from one side to the other etc.
Not so thrilled by this drone. Waiting for the Mini 3!!!
Honest review. Exactly what I expected. Hope these are questions you ask Max on WED. As it is I am not interested in this drone much less any of the videos on it anymore. Have seen enough from you, QC guy and others mentioning the issues this drone has. Think I will stick with the LITE+ for my spare and travel drone.

Great honest video in ever way, and yes, while the nano plus gives a great quality video, a lot of other items are (currently) sacrificed, and having gone through one firmware update, I really don't think that I could go through another. I wanted to give the nano plus a chance you see, as everyone just everyone seems focused on the DJI mini pro3, and yet you are spot on, I think it's better and much cheaper just to attempt to obtain a licence here in the UK for my larger older DJI Phanton 4 Pro, with a one inch CMOS/CCD which was awesone, just too heavy!, and much much cheaper now on the likes of ebay. Thanks again, great review.

For me personally the Controller is a Bummer! Might be nice in the hands, but that phoneholder always on top is uncomfortable when carrying such a small drone in your backpack while hiking, biking and backcountry skiing… also it really needs a place for the sticks!!
I noticed that the latest firmware v1.0.49 does a lot of gimbal “self-checks” before you are allowed to fly. Is this something they’ve done to mitigate horizon tilt?

Honest review. Truth be told, the Mini 2 camera isn't as good as I expected, so it is obvious that a great camera and great drone just doesn't come at a cheap price regardless of brand. That said, I think the Autel Lite+ is still my target drone.

Ken watched you video, it was quite good. I have a question for you on the Nano / Nano+ its about the claimed speed vs the actual speed. Now I have not had the chance to fly one yet but when I see the top speed doesn't seem to be reached (in the fast mode) I have concerns about the motors (too small) and the Wind Resistance Level being accurate. Is this a possibility?

Thanks for the honest review. I've been looking for a sub 250g drone to replace my Mavic Pro 1. I use it mostly for travels and documenting my construction projects. However where I live is windy so it the nano worries me. I wonder if that can be handled via a firmware update? So until my next trip in June I'll wait and see. Anything is an upgrade from my 2017 drone

💯 It's double the price for an acceptable offering. Yes the DJI Mini2 it top dog and if you absolutely need included flight options and no NFZ issues... the ZMSE at $314 is not bad (but thats another story). Here in Canada... Flying a drone over 250g has a multitude of nightmares attached (over and above simply registering it) so a sub 250g UAV is the only option (recreationally). Again.. 💯 .. I was all set to buy , untill the price came out.👍👍

Fantastic critical analysis of the Autel Nano Plus. I agree that the use case for a sub 250 gram drone in North America is quite limited, especially here in Toronto, Canada. I think the use case for sub 250 Gram drones which is the rational that I used when I purchased the DJI Mini would be for the times that I am travelling to a country that does not have a guest flyer provision for drones over 250 Grams. Furthermore, I do not fly my DJI Mini as I have the DJI Air 2S,Mavic Pro Platinum, Mavic 2 Pro and Autel EVO II 8K. I think the upcoming Mavic 3 Mini will supersede the performance of the Autel Nano Plus.
Clear, concise and an articulate reasoning behind your view that the Autel is not worth my money; better to wait for the DJI Mini 3 but; and it is a massive BUT. What do you think the cost is going to be for that drone. Everyone was caught on the hop over the cost of the Mavic 3 which managed to price many out of the choice of even considering that machine! Myself included. If DJI continue to have Dollar signs revolving in their eyes and the view that those who were priced out of the Magic 3 are stuck with the Mini 3 as the only option, they will see the Mini 3 as a massive cash cow and jack the price up...possibly beyond that of the Autel, thus rendering your assumptions incorrect! Thoughts?

Hey Mate, I know this video is about the nano but can you please try and shoot a time-lapse for 30 seconds and see if your Lite + also gives you the terrible camera jerk/wobble for every shot it takes. Mine does it very bad. Settings were - shot every 2 seconds, 30 seconds length, at a height of 60 meters no wind at all and not flying forward just staying one place.
You mention horizon tilt. I have found that the manual gimbal calibration works much better than the auto calibration. At least for me, it worked on my Evo 2 Pro. Not sure about the new line of Autel drones. Great review as usual.

I think it comes down to the fact it should do what they advertise it can do. For example, going through the trouble of changing the owners manual just to change the speed of sport mode because it cannot achieve the advertised speed, therefore making the tracking (once released) useless for anything faster than riding a bicycle.
I say get your 107 and pay the $5 to register.
At that point you can get the Air S or Lite +, both sub $2,000 of course, and even the Lite standard isn't bad at all.
It is their first shot out of the gate, so they need to fix what is wrong and really get ready for the Nano +.

I flatly do not understand how or why did Autel advertise their Nano @ 15m/sec in Sport when it cannot exceed 12? Did they not test their proto's prior to market? My DJI Mini 2 flies circles around my Nano Plus which the latter also had serious issues getting stuck in mid-air, hovering and not responding to stick forward. I sent it in for repair so I hope it comes back in better form.

What about performance at night? Other reviewers have shown that the f/1.9 aperture and the RYYB sensor filter results in better low light performance than the Mini2, Air2 and even the Air 2S!

@@OriginaldoBo Totally agree but that low light performance tells us that if they ever do fix those problems you highlighted it would be a truly great drone. They better hurry to do it before the Mini 3!

Have you tried adjusting shutter now that you can? Have you reached out for filters? Some of these “ anomalies” clear up that way.

That’s a real bummer. I was hoping for the money and it’s camera size that it would be much better. Had plans to use it as my little travel drone. Do you think there’s an actual any chance that they could fix it with firmware?
