  • Living Traditions Productions proudly presents the first Beyond the Pride Lion Dance Exhibition set to be held in Southern California on November 7, 2009. We welcome everyone from far and wide. If you can make it to this event then we invite you to join us!
    As Lion Dancers ourselves, we know that pride is an integral part of the Lion Dancer life style: pride in one's traditions, pride in one's team, and pride in one's craft. Living Traditions Productions hopes to provide an open arena to display the best of our proud art form to the community. LTP also hopes to foster brotherhood and sportsmanship between teams, encouraging participants to go beyond one's pride and interact and learn from each other.
    -----------
    We would like to introduce the "One in the Chamber" at 1:54. The new stunt was created through a series of practices, perilous falls, and multiple skin burns.
    -----------
    Thank Wong Fu Productions for helping us make this video. Also the lion dancers who spent hours with us. Your help will help prosper the on going tradition and sport.

    Our logo represents the mirror that is found on the forehead of the lion. It's the symbol of power in which the lion has to defeat the demons. The red drop is to represent the rooster blood that is used during the blessing/dotting/wakening of the lion. The lion cannot be danced in until it is blessed. We hope that by using this symbol, we will hav the strength to carry on the tradition n bring prosperity to others. This was what we were taught but it varies among the teams, what do you guys do?

    Because of this exhibition, the Power Lions video was put on hold but a few people were recently assigned roles to continue the project. We hope to finish it some time in the fall but this exhibition is our main priority. Thank you for checking in.

    @dukich5536 the way to hold the head varies with the person. One commonly use way if u r right handed is to hold the mouth with the left hand and the bar with your right. Even with this style of holding the head it varies from contemporary lion (e.g. palm facing upward) to tradition (e.g. palm facing forward). It is very hard to explain but it's best to try multiple ways and see what you feel comfortable and have most control with. Some dancers switch while dancing to suit the moves.

    it's essentially a side roll. We call it "One in the Chamber."
    First step is have a padded floor. It's one of the scariest stunts because it goes so fast and there is a large margin for error. The techniques are unlike almost everything in lion dance. We might post a tutorial, gotta talk with the guys. First we have to get back into shape. :P

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Kniitte thank you, we wanted to give something to the lion dance community. We discussed a bit about the move in earlier comments but we are still trying to perfect it so we rather not give tips and tutorial till it is safely to do so.

    @neva2muchrice hard since the custom is in the way and yes, i understand the consequences of doing dangerous moves like these since we ( our lion dance team ) want to be the best in seattle, we try to learn unique moves and further it into another level :)

    well this is an exhibition so no team will be competing against each other. It's just an event to present the teams and showcase to the community the progress that lion has undertake over the last few decades. Gio Nam is a hosting team and they have expressed their interest in participating. We will be releasing the participating teams soon so keep checking our website for updates.

  • @neva2muchrice

    We posted this video and the moves for all lion dancers. All we ask is that if you do post your vid online, please link it back to this one and be careful when you try the One in the Chamber. Special consideration is suggested for back of the tail player and on the landing for the head player (i.e. beware of rolling your ankles).

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @bekko247 thank you for the compliment but this video was actually made by Wong Fu Productions. We, along with 2 other teams, provided the talent and they provided the rest. I didn't want to take credit for someone else's work. However, we are planning to work on another one and hopefully they can film it again.

    @Ihatehating Stunts aren't the only thing to impress the student body. There are many aspects of lion dancing such as expression and music that bring it all together. Stunts are flashy but learning on yt is not exactly the best way to go. We had former training to make sure we do the stunt safely and not to injure ourselves. Concerning this stunt, it's not a secret but definitely advance and post a high risk of injury. If ur new to lion dance then we advise you not to try this. Best of luck!

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Kniitte even if we can tell you, we wouldn't know how since you can see it on the video. We are not responsible for any injuries as this is a pretty dangerous stunt much like the backflip in which the tail and head rely on each other greatly to pull off. If you must try please proceed with caution.

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1234ya If you go down the comments, I posted a link on someone showing the "Dragon Whip" and the flip, aka One In the Chamber, was made up by the members of LTP. I don't believe they are intending to make tutorials for it as it is a dangerous move for the tail that requires a little more perfecting before they can make a tutorial.

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    lion dance has a very close tie to martial arts so the more training you have in MA, the better your lion dancing skill will be. Keep in mind that the movements start at the legs and transfers through the body. Stances and balance are keys in performing movements or stunts. Best of luck!

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BattleKittyZ that's good technique as I know a few dancers that do the same thing. If the lion looks short then I think you need to switch to a smaller lion till you can grow into a bigger one. Emplion has some nice smaller size lions for a good price. Thanks for info thejukeboxers.

  • @neva2muchrice
    @neva2muchrice  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    we glad you enjoyed it and the feedbacks that everyone's giving us. Though falls are something to be careful for in lion dance, often not by the skill of the dancers but by miscalculations, it is really inspiring to see a team fall and get back up to finish the routine as hard as those teams did. It is better to have a bigger tail but I have seen tail that weigh 135lbs and head weighing 160lbs that can pull off a headsit. It's all about distributing weight and using momentum effectively.

    Thank you, ShadowLi. This is an exhibition to promote the teams and the art of lion dancing to the community. We're just trying to strengthen the art since it's not as big in the US as in Malaysia. This exhibition will involve props and ground movement but no jongs. As for the dance itself, the teams are free to present their styles and what they've learned.

    @neva2muchrice I know stunts aren't the only thing, but what I mean is we don't have enough to suffice for a legitimate performance. When we tried this stunt, my back partner tried to lift me sideways but he literally walked around in a 360 for some reason... I don't know why he kept doing it. I've been performing for a couple years, but this year, I really want to push more for lion dancing and take it seriously, but thanks for the advice!
