- I had a surprising twist on this Google Maps Find!
Sometimes when I find something on Google Maps, I can sense that it most likely won't be anything exciting or all that interesting, but that doesn't stop me as I love the adventure.
With this location, I had the mindset that I would find this location, identify it and leave knowing that I accomplished my goal. One thing that often keeps me going is my curiosity and this time, my curiosity led me to making a discovery of something I've never encountered in the woods. Just goes to show that even with the most ordinary of locations that something even better can come from it.

Am I glad I didn't call it quits too early. This certainly turned out to be more than I was expecting, but in a good way. Looking forward to your thoughts on the bonus find!
Yes the water wheel will move!
Loved everything about this adventure. From the beginning to the end ...I thought of post10 too😄👍 Thanks for bringing us along
Another great adventure 💙! You didn't fall down this time😅 I recently started watching Post 10. He is very unique!
Hey JP, always enjoy your adventures. I am in Construction - did many sewer plants and super fund sites thru the years.
My experience tells me you were at a Superfund site, or a Water Pollution Control Project Site. They treat the water with equipment inside of those buildings for only a few years. When the water becomes to acceptable levels, they stop treatment and tear the structures down. The lower pond with the wheel was probably a settling pond to slow the flow and allow natural settling. It may have to be cleaned out a few times a year, etc. The wheel was probably for Aeriation or some sort of metering device to measure flow. No way that little thing could generate any amount of electric. Neenah Foundry is still in business. They make manhole covers and precast accessories. My guess that job was done in the late 90s
Look forward to the next adventure. BTW, you never said where this was, unless I missed it ? Assuming coal region NE PA.
Just south of Carbondale. With this being my first time coming across a wheel like this, I was just guessing it's usage, but thank you for sharing that info.
Really love your videos!!!
Mine drainage treatment, maybe?
Still community's aqueduct water service system citern(not a lake, a pound or a pool at this point; that's why the restricted access: its the natural open water citern of the aqueduct system service. It has to be PH tested and else + a bit treated in many well-knowned periods in a year, by a steady living citizen(Elders😂),born/native of a location and designed as the usual basic guardian-key bearer-tester-analyst-specialist-decider about all of the drinkability of the water in the citern, rending it always ready and proper for any and all home's consumation, from the tap.👍🏼 Who's this Entitled Silent-Hero working for all in your location? Find him/her, offer special Thanks from all users, and finish on promising you can keep the secret on a Hero's name!😉it will be appreciated😂
@JPVideosI81 I live in Greenfield Township on Newton Lake and live video's like this. Carbondale is about 15 minutes from me and I know it was a big coal area all around here.
LOL Post 10 was the first one I thought of for that clog. I love watching his channel! Great find in the woods.
My thoughts exactly! Post10 needs to come clear that asap! LOL!
Same thoughts
Same here
Same here
Reminds me of the Chicksaw Ordinance works in Millington Tennessee, it was an Ammunition Factory where the govt went in long after it was demoed and decommisioned, and built a network of drainage culverts and an underground system to weep and filter off the underground contaminants from the ww2 factory. There were several waterwheels in the woods there that mustve been part of the drainage system to keep the factory dry when it was in operation.
I love these google maps videos because they inspire me to go explore behind my home keep it up man
Happy exploring!
This is why I love watching your videos, Jay -- Your sense of curiosity, and playfulness when you find something you like is energizing and Fun!! Really cool finding that water wheel!! And it was a nice reward for your persistence in exploring the area as best you possibly could. Great job!! Love these adventures with your level of camera skills and video work, so we get to not only see what you see, but get to hear the beautiful sound of those little waterfalls along the way. I loved the big boulder covered with nature's carpet that had the hidden waterfall beneath it, too! Gorgeous day to explore! Thanks for bringing us along!!😊💙💙💙
Thanks so much. I rarely not find myself having some type of fun on these adventures.
Great video! Love natures sound track…a little creek with tiny water falls. Very chill!
If you haven't found them yet, there's also several openings into the mines in that area.
Thank You for another interesting adventure JP. 💙
Hi Jay - I didn't see any signs of acid mine drainage, and the odor you described had me wondering about a possible old landfill in the area. That would make sense in terms of the containment basins and what appeared to be monitoring infrastructure. Another interesting location. 💙
My guess is that the water wheel was used as a sensor to show that that the pond was overflowing and by how much. Probally tied into some type of FM radio transmitter connected to the buildings. Not really big enough for a large amount of power more likely a magnetic sensor. As others have said some type of hasmat clean up site.
I like the water wheel ❤
My guess is the pond/reservoir is something to do with mine waste/runoff based on how you said that it smells. It’d be interesting to see what a water test would find in it.
I agree - maybe some type of passive treatment system
Yea, rotten egg smell is usually due to sulfur.
There definitely was a system there. Might've been a small scale treatment facility. That steel platform most likely covered the shaft & gear(s). There could've been a generator/turbine there when the building was there. Very interesting area.💙
I definitely believe something was taking place with all that was involved to create it.
@@JPVideos81 maybe they were treating the water for possible mining.....?
I loved that water wheel !Great find JP Thank you!
Nice find. You find so many neat things. Loved the metal wheel. Enjoyed playing the Wheel Of Fortune / The Price Is Right with you tonight. 🤗
Hopefully the price was right 🤣
A couple random thoughts on the water wheel. Note that flow gauges are generally of an impeller type rather than any sort of wheel, but in the case where a wheel might be used, the design would consist of paddle configuration rather than any sort of undershot or overshot device which would use either the force or the weight of the flowing water to do actual work, which this wheel seemed to be designed to do. Problem is it’s not anywhere near big enough to use enough mechanical advantage to turn a turbine, and it’s obviously not anything designed to turn a mill. So, what is it? Well, it’s a sort of measuring device and mechanical appliance all in one. It cleverly measures the flow of the water running through it by using the volume of water it contains in each compartment on the wheel and also the speed at which it is turning. The shaft would be geared through to a device which dispenses some sort of water treatment chemical at a rate which is perfectly measured and calibrated using the volume of water measured by the wheel. That building next to the wheel housed the dispensing equipment and chemicals.
Once again Jay another fantastic video!!!!💙
I agree JP 👍 that small section of over grown foliage is very thick. Excellent video JP 👍 that was awesome to see that water wheel, and it still moves to. Probably the only water wheel in the area. What have been great to see water out of the pipe pushing that water wheel 👍👍👍👍
💙 Hm ... Based on the sulfury smell and ponds to collect whatever settles out of the water my guesses are either some sewage treatment facility further upstream because of the white-ish streaks on top of the water in the 2nd pond near the leaves on the left side, which i know just too well from our own small house sewage treatment contraption, or, because there was mining going on there, something to settle out stuff from the water because it's mine drainage ... Looks a little too clear for me though for that. Not an expert. Just guessing.
Interesting once again and just what was needed here after a not so great day, thank you :)
Brackish water is salt water which mixes into fresh water. Tidal rivers are brackish for some distance upstream.
What a great video again! Thank you!
Another awesome video! Really enjoy them!
❤I love post 10 and was thinking about him when I saw this!
Nice trek and finds!! Thanks JP!! 💙
Thanks Julie
The water wheel was most likely used to monitor the water flow.
I Love how happy you always are! That's heartwarming :) thank you for everything . Please don't change
The Neenah Foundry is located in Neenah Wisconsin and is still in operation to this day.
With the above comments, mining operation - maybe iron (coal?) The wheel probably either generator for electricity or ore processing. Ponds definitely mine related. My old hometown of Butte,Montana has a few waste ponds(three locks on the fences tells me probably EPA, ANOTHER GOVERNMENT OUTFIT, AND THE COMPANY WITH HOLDINGS. ARCO was the Butte last company holding the bag in 1982. Lol😂 Neenan foundry realky famous iron works, ever look at many old man hole covers,Neenan be blazened on there!)
Great vid. Love your stuff, especially the Google map finds!!
Another fun adventure. Thank You!!!💙
Great video as always!
Great find, love it!
I really love your videos... thank you
I tried to hand your camera to you at the water will, but my arms were to short 😅. I was thinking how lucky that the fence was there as it sent you off the paths. I really enjoy your curiosity and joy in everything you find. You always bring a smile to my day. Thank you for bringing us along! 💙💙💙
😊💙💙
I really enjoyed the video and the comments made about what you found. 💙
Hello Jay that was a really interesting find and cool I love your sound effects💙👍 take care and love from upstate New York❤😊
Awesome find again Jay! My guess is mine drainage because of the sulfur smell. And like you said the different ponds to help filter the water naturally. I guess. Still a cool find! Thank you for sharing! 💙❤💙
Or a natural sulfur spring. We had one of those growing up and it was awful. Thanks for the memories. LOL
Sounds like it is Sulfur you are smelling > having to do with the mining. Good explore. Stay safe
💙 That water wheel was a cool find!
Indeed. Completely took me by surprise.
Thanks for another awesome video
My Thoughts here. The water is run off from a mine. That's why it not smell so good. The holding ponds stored water for times when water might run low of now flow. The water wheel probably turned a generator that made electricity for the mine. I wonder what they where mining? Coal? But then the coal you found could have been used for a boiler or so.
Love Google Map adventures.
Great find that's amazing 👏 thanks for sharing this with us.
Very beautiful creek. Thanks for your hard work! Good job.
Great video. 💙
💙 Great find JP! The water wheel was wicked cool. I wonder the reservoir's background is? Maybe an EPA cleanup site? Great video as always!
amazing as always
Another great video! 💙
Hello from SW Pa, For those of us who watch Post 10, he was the first person we ALL thought of. Love your videos JP!
Awesome Google Maps adventure JP! What some great finds! There was a trailer park where i lived years ago that had it's own sewage treatment plant and it had a water wheel like that! Makes me think there was living quarters there in the past and its a old sewage treatment system. Really cool find! Thanks for bringing us along!👍💙
Any clue what they used the wheel for?
@@JPVideos81 I remember the wheel caught bad stuff like plastic and such and the platform beside it had a roots blower on it that ariated the waste and then the runoff returned to a creek. I remember the owner of the trailer park complaining about things that got flushed and collected on the wheel, I watched him clean it once and there were alot of personal hygiene products on it, it was pretty gross!😊
💙 Cool video, as always!
Great Google maps adventure sulfur water from an old mine was maybe a filter station great video thanks Jay
I would expect it to be orange like typical AMD but who knows. Smelly for certain.
Hi from North Wales 🏴. Recently found your channel so catching up with your adventures. Love that you like to explore like me 😊, its amazing what you can find from years gone by and from Nature.
That was awesome find. the water wheel was interesting my be it was used to monitor the water flow
Thanks, Jay, never disappointing. Central California watching 💙
Thanks Ted
Great video and certainly a interesting find after tracking the water down further to see where it went. Would be interesting to see where the source is coming from as it might explain why.
💙 Great exploration!
I wonder if that is sulfer rich water coming out of a mine somewhere and this was an attempt to clean it.
It's possible
this is a great video keep it up buddy :D thanks for sharing this one jp :D
❤ Maybe the water wheel was replaced, too? There was a date on it, too, that said dry 92723. Maybe that was the last time it was used. My guess.
I didnt consider that it could have been replaced. Good suggestion.
Depending on the date format, it was either replaced September 27th 2023, or July 23, 1992.
I thought the numbers might be referring to the date but being it also says dry makes me wonder if that's when they stopped using it.
Nice explore! I liked the water wheel especially. Thank you……🌝💙
You bet!
The pipe is stainless and is marked 6-6-18. It's marked on the inside of the pipe (you can see it when you're on the side of the water wheel marked with a paint marker. When you walked away and came back down to the other side of the wheel, the pipe is marked on the outside top. The wheel also says DRY 92723. I wonder if that's 9-27-23.
I did notice those as well, but didn't know what they were referencing.
@@JPVideos81 Perhaps that pipe was replaced on that date. Hard to tell if it's 5 years old or 50 years old, as being stainless it won't rust anytime soon. The wheel doesn't look in terrible shape for plain steel either. But that could be made out of a weathering steel (cor-ten).
@@timramichYes but i have a problem with stainless steel it's a "Modern" material? I first heard of stainless Steel way back in the mid to late 70s not 1918 or 23
@@Johnketes54 6-6-18 as in 2018 and 9-27-23 as in 2023. Stainless isn't really that modern. Dating back at least a century. But it wasn't until the 1950s when it started to become easier to make, where it was used in aerospace, and then eventually industrial, and then eventually a common mass-produced material.
💙 really enjoyed this video
💙 This was an amazing and relaxing adventure. Every time you show that Culvert plugged up with leaves I thought about post 10. then you actually mentioned him gave him a shout out that was pretty neat. I actually thought about wanting to clean it out myself. I guess because I'm a Pisces I was always fascinated with water and even having a damned up a little bit just to free it up and watch it slow again. And you had me laughing with the Price Is Right throwback with the sound effects. I Used to love watching that show. I enjoyed every moment of this adventure and look forward to more. Keep up the great work jp. And as always stay safe healthy and God bless you, your family, friends and all your viewers.❤
Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did and had a smile at the price is right moments.
@@JPVideos81 most definitely 🙂
That’s cool J! That waterwheel is wild. I’ve seen that kind of setup before. Have you ever seen a mold to make that wheel? I’d start
Mine buddies and ask everyone. Good on your perseverance J!💙
I have to say your "investigation skills" are excellent! Love this adventure! That boulder is incredible, and the nature's carpet is beautiful. I know I have said this before, but I just love the sound of the water of those little flowing streams and waterfalls. How neat was that to find the waterwheel! I think you are right that there was once a structure there and it had something to do with operating and maintaining the water wheel and maybe had something to do with water treatment or testing or power? I'm not sure, but what a great find! You sure had fun with the wheel, it looked really fascinating. I would have done the same thing! lol Your photos are outstanding as always! Great video JP, thank you! 💙💙💙
Thanks Gayle. It took me by complete surprise and I had fun giving it a few spins.
Awesome 💙
Very curious on the purpose of the water wheel....Blue and ❤!
I would love to put a trail cam there, nice little adventure 😊
wow , that water wheel is a great find, i wonder if there is any info online somewhere as to what all that was used for.💙
Interesting find.
I didn’t expect the wheel to turn, incredible! 💙💙💙 thank you for this video
You’re welcome 😊
I especially enjoy your videos on the days, here in Pa, that aren't inviting outside. This one is quite satisfying but it left me wondering where you were. Maybe I missed it but maybe you need to not broadcast your curiosities.... Very nice and well put together. We share the same love of outdoors. My thing is ebiking it as much as possible... Keep them coming friend!
I dont share all the locations, atleast not in detail to help protect them. But this was south of the Carbondale Pennsylvania area.
💙
Great find
Hi JP!!! I enjoyed the video; it is beautiful up in that area. Could that been used to transport some of the Cole and Iron Ore from off that mountain? Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!😀
💙💙💙 i'm just amazed that you find these hidden treasures by looking on maps . i always enjoyed going on the hunt .
Seems like there's endless things out there to find.
I've been enjoying your videos for quite some time now .... thank you for sharing them with us.
The water wheel has MANY different years represented (as you indicated). I did notice that the wire grating you were standing on by the water wheel... and what appears to be 'fresh' 4x4's supporting it looks like it could have been installed within the past year. Possibly when the 'DRY 92723' was scribed.
Possibly by the same people that put up the fence. Though the "DRY" date could also be when the pipe plugged up with leaves and stopped flowing.
With all the concrete around both waterwheels. Maybe that's where the previous buildings were located?
It didnt look like it on the map images, but I can't rule it out.
Cool! 💙
Looks like this for treating the mine water. Water wheel powered a mechanism to deposit lime into the water to adjust the pH level. Looks like a building was there. Neat explore!!💙
U find some COooooL things.
Thats super cool !!!
A Team Up with JPVideos and Post 10? That would be an awesome video!
That was awesome to see 💙
You always push thru and sometimes the surprise find is better than what you were searching for ....water wheel was a fun find for sure .....loved the sweet little steams and water falls.Glad it isn't " smellavision " I hate the rotten egg smell of sulphur water . When we drilled our first well it was that stinking water ...ugh...had to drill deeper ... Live and learn . Always an adventure to explore along with you ...thank you for always going the extra mile ...stay safe .👍💙💙
I like eggs, just not rotting ones 😁
🤣@@JPVideos81 same here ..🤣
Also i saw bubbles whiched look like not clean water 😢 if you come out glowing , contact the inventor of transportor , to see the fly man got put back together , he might be able to help you 😊
Awesome google maps find, I'm guessing a water treatment facility was there at one time.
I really enjoyed this video gotta wonder what it all was for I’m sure it had its purpose the water wheel was a great find thank you for taking us along for the adventure 😎
Yes sir, this was a nice surprise coming upon the wheel. Wish I knew more about it, but was fun to discover.
💙 Cool waterwheel!! Great find! You said there were beaver activity, but I didn't see any beaver dams! Just curious! Stay safe!
This one is really fun. I like it. Thank you for sharing it. ❤
Thanks
Neenah Foundry is a company that had made the steps. Enjoyed the video!
Those that you’re crawling through are Rhododendron’s. Go back in the spring and that area will be covered in pink!
👍nice job👍
LMBO love the shout out for Post 10 😅 yeah, I'm a big Post 10 fan, and yeah he would love to unclog those culverts, next time he uploads, I'll let him know about your shout out, great video JP
We enjoyed it Noah wants to spin the wheel. Thanks for sharing . ❤❤❤ Stay safe love ya
Give it a good spin haha
It reminds me of a newer version of Nolde Forest in Reading, PA, which used to have an old sawmill. I even had to look at the satellite view to check, since it also has a similar size body of water.
Neenah Foundry is down the highway from me here in Wisconsin and still in existence and going strong.
super cool
Just before you mentioned Post 10 I was thinking the same thing. It'll be hilarious if he shows up there in a week or two!!!
Cool area, wish I could find areas like this.Where'd you get your gloves? I left mine too close to the camp fire, lol. Looking for another pair like those.
Walmart lol
