All of the pros react to the first my-y-y-y hand. Everyone of you stops because you realize you're hearing something special. Always fun to see. This is the one that made me fall in love with her.
This is the first Gigi video l watched and became an instant fan 30 seconds into the song. Her vocal ability, tone, and creativity are on another plateau.
I would really be interested to know what you think of her vocal techniques and their rendition of heart to heart by Kenny loggins it's really a treat❤
I've watched a bunch of reactions to this Gigi video from [rock/pop/opera] musicians and you are the only one to note where it parted from being a traditional jazz rendition. And the driving instrumental intro took everyone by surprise--brilliant!--which set the table that it was going to have rock elements. I agree that the piano solo was jazzy and the guitar solo was rock. Though enjoyable, I didn't know how to classify Gigi's scat--it wasn't like Ella. Overall, a tremendous and unique version. I love it!
sir dan, you're the best reactor i watched.your on point!!the versatilty of gigi is out of this world.just on this song is a mixture of jazz, maybe soft rock, with the scat and the instrumentations are just a vibes. hope you can react her on heart to heart(kenny loggins),all i ask(adele),house of the rising sun(animals)and she' gorgeous!!thank you sir dan!!!
Luv your Giginalysis as always! This band is truly unique. They are able to blend different styles, jazz, funk, pop, rock, in one song, & it works! Nxt pls chk out their covers of OFFICIALLY MISSING YOU (Tamia) & ALL I ASK (Adele).
@@DrDanRobinson oh yes I understood that u were just referring to the title of the video. I just mentioned that bc you had not heard the squid game version yet. No worries Dr Dan, you're one of my favorite vocal coaches on TH-cam, & I always love your analysis of Gigi & the Gigi Vibes 🥰
I agree with the other commenters before me that this doesn't sound like the squid game version which has a female vocalist but a standard cover. Gigi and the Gigi Vibes version is so imaginative, creative and one of my favorite covers that they do. It is just a pleasure and delight. But be forewarned that the graphic video of the squid game version , a lot of people are being shot while the song plays.
Nice analysis, really enjoyed it. Just like to add: bass stayed true, but also added a bit of his own flavor. Electric guitar with the wah also added some funk elements. This is jazz rock funk pop fusion at it's finest
Gigi and the guys are the G.O.A.T. Dan you need to check out a new singer who blew me away. Tori Holub! She has an astonishing voice that she can make you believe she is almost Karen Carpenter OR Olivia Newton John. And that's not easy. Check it her out PLEASE. You will not be disappointed.
Oddly enough, the Squid Game version only lends to a female vocals and sounds almost nothing like this arrangement. You should check it out just to compare.
To describe this cover as swing jazz is misleading at best. I would be inclined to use the word "fusion" (rock guitar solo distorted sound and phrasing, funk rhythm guitar, jazz keyboard solo, r n b drum beats and pop vocals with scats). Nothing swings in this cover. Swing essentially is driven by a swing feel combo driven by the bassist and the drummer with a typically walking bass line. Neither the drummer and bassist are utlising a swing feel let alone swing chops. Ringo Starr who didn't play jazz has more swing feel in his drumming than the drummer in this cover. Gigi ain't using swing in her vocals either obviously as the instrumentalists were not swinging. The closest to jazz was the keyboard solo and the scat which still did not swing in the true jazz sense. Gigi is fantastic with pop, rock, r n b and other contemporary vocal styles but she is not jazz in the sense of what jazz is as duly noted in this video......she'd pull off jazzy pop though. Even Sinatra did not dare call himself a jazz singer even though he swung like crazy.
Thank you for your feedback. On reflection, "swing jazz" might not have been the best term for this cover. "Fusion," as you suggest may be more accurate, considering the rock guitar solos, funk rhythm guitar, jazz keyboard solos, R&B drum beats, and pop vocals with scat. While the keyboard solo and scat elements come close to jazz, they don’t truly swing. Gigi excels in many genres, but this isn’t traditional swing jazz. She’d be great in jazzy pop, though. Thanks again for your insights.
Do not think there are many Pop or R&B singers could sing this like GiGi … I think your understanding of jazz helps you … now her scatting is good but not like a jazz vocalist would scat
This is the reason why Gigi differs from others 😊
This unique creative talent is one in a million and she is so
Blessed to have it 🙏🙏🙏

Btw this doesn't sound anything like the Squid Game version
I have not heard the squid game version and was simply referring to the Squid Game reference in the original video's title. Sorry for the confusion.

this is not the squid game version… it’s all GGV’s version ❤

just checked out the squid game version. . . very different. . .
Me neither , don’t know anything about Squid Game 😅

It can be a James Bond movie soundtrack...🤔

If one truly listens to a jazz singer one must listen to Betty Carter
Do not think there are many Pop or R&B singers could sing this like GiGi … I think your understanding of jazz helps you … now her scatting is good but not like a jazz vocalist would scat
It will be boring if she sings it like the original.
This is the reason why Gigi differs from others 😊
