Final Fantasy VIII has one of the best stories from Final Fantasy. It has a story that you won't understand on the first playthrough. Rinoa isn't just anyone, Rinoa is... you know? It's an endless cycle.
Well Squall is a SeeD, destined to hunt down and defeat the ultimate Sorceress, which we learn is actually prooobbbably Rinoa. Ultimecia & Squall both ensure the cycle repeats, with Edea receiving both Ultimecia's power and the idea for SeeD and Garden. So the fated lovers trope is still true, just much deeper than surface level.

The thing i love about this ending and their love story that the game doesn't 100% spell out for you super clearly, is that even tho circumstances pulled Julia and Laguna apart, fate brought both of their respective children Rinoa (Julia's daughter) and Squall (Laguna's son) together so that they could experience the love that Julia and Laguna never could. I dunno why, i just love that. Also the nice touch how "Eye's on me" is effectively Squall and Rinoa's love song, and it is the song that Julia wrote about Laguna. I just love this beautiful game.

FFVIII is one of my favourite games of all time, and it's wonderful to see newcomers in 2022 still able to be this invested in the story of a PS1 game. Just proves how timeless this game is.
This Game is so beautiful. I remember it first playing 22 years ago. This music burned into my brain. Will never forget those memories. Just beautiful. Thanks for reviving this in 2022! I had really great memories and yes I also cried. My favourite Final Fantasy.
In retrospect I see the issues people have with the game, but back then I was new to JRPGs and everything was amazing to me lol. I also enjoyed how bright and calm the world/atmosphere felt at first in combination with the music, especially after playing the dark and claustrophobic Metal Gear Solid.

FF8 captures emotions quite well through music and good story writing. It was corny at times but i think that relaxed style of story writing helped with capturing the emotions of the game. FF14 is probably the only game that captures it better..
I think its loved more than its hated. Just the people that dislike it are more vocal about it. Alot of people attacked 8 when it came out because it wasn't anything like 7. Im sure if the story of FF9 came after 7 people would have hated on that more too. FF8 has definitely aged the best from the golden ps1 era.
This is why the early Final Fantasy's transends any other game. It's an experience. A gift that you'll NEVER forget... but even still... after watching watching someone go through those exact emotions is another kind of experience. We all get to relive it in a way. Thank you for this gift.
So true. I was so excited to play Kingdom hearts 3 and the magic just wasn't there. I remember the first two so fondly. Maybe I'm just getting too old.
this. I keep trying to play ff15 but never could play it long enough because it's so.. disappointing, there's no magic at all, i hate pretty much every character in that game. these early FF stories are so ahead of the tech that was available at the time. this one needs a remake for sure

@@maniatic0 they are spending too much time on tech and focusing too much on nostalgia bait. when sakaguchi left square the soul of final fantasy went with him. some of the new FF's are okay, but just aren't as memorable. it's like it's become cliche of itself, just like pretty much any long running series does to be fair. FF ended at 10 for me, everything after is just nostalgia bait by using FF tropes... crystals, chocobos, moogles, potions, and various recurring character and enemy names... apparently if you make a game with that it's a FF now.
My favorite Final Fantasy. One of the best endings. By far the absolute best use of the Main Theme during the credits with the handycam footage. This ending is so satisfying and triumphant.
the only reason it got flack was due to the draw system and monster level progression. I honestly loved 8 the most out of all of them, well 8 is my second favorite now due to me loving 14 so much bu that doesnt really count, 8 had my favorite music, favorite characters and jesus the two ML and FL finally and actually get together and be happy. I love it so much!
@@averagecat5968 I actually love how FF8 had different systems than usual. Yes the Draw mechanics could have been made less tedious with a bit of extra work but I think the monster progression, junction battle and salary systems were great.
This was my favorite final fantasy. Reminds me of my Teen years, holds a special place. Glad you gave it a shot. The ending with laguna at his wife’s headstone always fucks me up.
Poor Laguna, his first love left him, and then the love of his life dies while giving birth to their first son...and he still kept trying to save the world, always being optimistic and never losing his smile (pretty much the oposite of said son).

I was in middle school when it came out. And my mental state at the time, my home surroundings and situation, let's just say that seeing the world through Squall's thoughts was a therapy at the time that I badly needed and I don't think I would have held the year that followed together had I not. Dead serious.
@@trishamel1828 Seifer was blinded by ambition and genuinely thought he was doing the right thing, however misguided. I never saw him as _evil_ or anything. I like seeing him without the weight on his shoulders and it showed he's actually probably a real good friend.

I absolutely loooove this Final fantasy ending, I believe it to be the best in the series. Squall's memories getting lost outside time and space and Rinoa passing through time and space to find squall and bring him back is just so well done (look Interstellar, ff8 did it first haha) and then the camera after credits showing everyone happy and healthy it's just perfection 👌👌👌 this game is ♥️
Phase one (main ending): you believe that Squall is lost forever in time. Phase two (main credits): you believe that years after life goes on anyway. Phase three (real end): Squall is alive and flies with Rinoa towards the future.
They remade VII so they could further milk the name. The rest don’t have anywhere near the same level of success. Plus if they remade it they’d ruin it. Much like VII. Rather than the remake we all wanted we go a new game. (Which granted, is a decent game. I just don’t wanna see VIII get the same treatment.)
Did you realize that Rinoa's mother was Julia, Laguna's first love interest? Eyes on me was Julia's song to Laguna. The song describes Julia's night with Laguna. FF8 is by far one of my top FF games for the story alone. They're all great, but this one was so different and memorable. This game reminds me of High School, I was a bit of an introvert and my high school gf pulled me out of my shell as well.

Absolutely one of my favorite moments in any game lol Squall spends the entire game so lost, unhappy, and lonely, that when you finally get to see him smile, it's so moving.

I like the symbolism in the last sequence of Balamb Garden leaving towards the moon: Rinoa as the moon (Sorceress powers) and Squall as the shape of Griever carved on it. Both as one.

This is my fav FF game. Sure it's not as popular and well recieved as FF7 and FF10 but I enjoyed every bit of it. I really love Rinoa and Squall love story.

FF8 is so dear to my heart and always gets a lot of unwarranted hate from people who didn't give it a chance to see it's one of the most incredible stories I've played - and a really fun gameplay experience at that. Personally, it's my favourite Final Fantasy soundtrack and I feel it's Nobuo Uematsu's best. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This was recommended to me randomly and I’ve never seen her content before. But the surprisingly accurate voice acting was a beautiful surprise. I can’t believe you can do that Zell voice and the perfect Rinoa, also while being hilarious.

This has got to be one of the best stories ever written. This will always be my number 1 FF game. The music, the experience, the characters, everything is just pure magic. How time flies by so fast, it has been 25 years already since my brothers and I played the game.
My favorite Final Fantasy game. It was awesome to see the reactions someone else has with it. The Raine and Laguna part is still a hard gut punch every time.
I love seeing people enjoy FF8 so much. This game was my childhood. We had it on PC, and had the chocobo minigame on it as well. Was such a great piece of narrative. If not a little spooky for little 8 year old me. Loved this game. Loved the emotion is had in its story. I would put a lot of my youth's romanticism to this game's influence.
Nothing like a random TH-cam recommendation taking me down an emotional rollercoaster. I excitedly finished this game (in what feels like another lifetime ago) right before I got on the bus to go to school... I was a wreck haha. The Laguna sequence is still the hardest. The story of 8 has always made it my favorite game, a broken guy finds the strength to trust and depend on others, finds the love of his life, and finally knows what it means to be happy.
I am GUTTED I only just saw this. Yet I am so happy that just one more person could be as moved as I was the first time I played it over 20 years ago. FF8 story wise is easily as good as FFX if not better and it pains me so much it did not get the recognition it deserves. I was 13 when I played FFVIII in 1999. It was the first time a game made me feel, and it's still my absolute favorite/the most important game in my life! I'm happy you enjoyed it, and happy that many others here love it too!
24:30 - I played this game with my brother as a kid. When we first beat it, we got to this fight, she said "and..." then I said "and shut up!" followed by standard attack from Irvine that ended the fight. Your ending was more epic, but I find it funny that we both got to that "and" then told her to shut up and immediately ended the fight.
As a personal favourite and great deal of nostalgia, seeing you play and genuinely react to the story and moments of the game has brought endless joy to me! I've started following you after this and I am really happy you enjoyed the journey! Hopefully Square might consider a remake similar to FF7's for this great work!
Still, after 30 years of gaming, this is the most satisfying ending sequence I have ever seen. I can't think of any other ending that made me this happy I completed a game. This truly felt like a reward for all the hours you put into playing.

The music and visuals where enthralling and despite what others may say i enjoyed the new junction and draw system, as well as the best card game ever 'Triple Triad'. Final Fantasy 8 is so great! I love the original version character style better than the new character versions. The older style had darker eyes and looked more exotic. Square's decision to make them more "boy bandy" is a disappointment. The exotic look made them look more mysterious and romantic. Rinoa and Squall original images 💘
Seeing how emotional you reacted to that entire ending hit me right in the feels, like completely reliving my september 14th 1999 all over again. To actualy experience this game, its story, to understand and connect with Squall on such a deep level, his feelings, what he went through, THAT is what made final fantasy 8 such a masterpiece

Sadly it was confirmed by the Devs that a lots of Laguna stuff had to be cut out due to the game already being on 4 discs. It was meant to go deeper into Laguna and Raine relationship and to definitely confirm that Squall is his son.
Awesome to see someone else appreciating this underrated title in the series. This girl prooves that a lot of the complaints about the broken battle system that’s too easy to exploit is baseless. Yes, it’s easy to overpower yourself if you know what you’re doing, but by that point you’ve already experienced the game. Yes, sitting there and drawing 100 of every magic can get incredibly dull but that’s clearly not what they game intends. You draw and refine magic as you go and gradually get more powerful. The three Playstation titles (VII, VIII and IX respectively) were my first experience with the franchise and made me fall in love with it. For that reason the’ll always be special to me. The holy trinity of the series, if you will.

The difference between Seifer and Squall becoming Sorceress' Knights is that Seifer's 'romantic dream' to become a Sorceress' knight is born not from any care of the sorceress, but from his own ego; while Squall becoming a Sorceress' knight is a sincere vow of love to his sorceress- to Rinoa 🥺
Damn I remember the scene where you figure out Laguna’s son and Julia’s daughter get together after they miss out their own love, that was a nice ‘big brain’ moment. Pity you didn’t edit that in here, but regardless always love your FFVIII reaction video. Also extremely happy that you just love the WHOLE cast instead of just Squall & Rinoa. The character development of other character in FFVIII is rather lacking and thus the characters often come off underwhelming. But regardless I always love all of them and glad you do too. And Laguna’s ending scene with Raine is one of the most bittersweet moment in gaming ending, I remember crying when I realise Raine is dead (I was too young to piece things up together, pretty sure Ellone already mentions about her death), he’s such a tragic hero you can’t just not love him
I think the only characters that needed alot more development were Irvine and Selphie. Then again they had all the main characters involved deeply in the main plot with them all being at the orphanage with Edea so maybe they thought doing that would mean they wouldn't have to do sidestories given how much they wanted to fit into the game. Im sure they'll do the game wonders with what it's missing once it finally gets remade though. Hopefully we get to play Laguna even more lol.
loved this game played in March May 2020 after I'd come home from the hospital in the middle of covid after those shifts as a PA. Looked forward to the last shift of the week so i could play triple triad all night

I was so obsessed with Eyes on me when I was a Kid... damn such a good song. Also besides the fact that this is not my favorite FF I think it has the best ending of the saga, its touching close the story completely and is fun and wholesome.
Beat this game back in 1999 when it came out, because i always used my brothers PS1 it was a no brainer to which my mother bought me my own PS1 and tv, and she got me FF8 timely right after my birthday because i kept seeing the tv adverts so i was bouncing across the couches like a made feral child because i played the ever loving hell out of FF7. December last year i had the opportunity to play this game all over again with the HD Remaster, my core reason? to bring my now ex fiancee into the world of final fantasy. every moment hit her in every way i had hoped, she was in love with the story and the romance, eyes on me made her bawl her eyes out, the ending though? priceless reaction i'll never get back. this lead me to completing FFX with her also. sadly she gave up on our relationship of 3 years and engagement, the timing for her just wasn't right sadly, i lost my everything and seeing this really hit me emotionally to see someone else play this game through, those memories etched. i made her a playlist on Spotify 3 years ago when we first talked and met, safe to say the past two months have been horrible, but i slid eyes on me into her playlist i made for her.
Laguna and Raine’s love story is so sweet and so sad. They loved each other so much but couldn’t be there for each other, especially when Raine died. Laguna was torn by her death that he couldn’t talk about his wife at all. So glad that he finally could return to his wife TwT
VIII will always be my favourite due to it really being the most ‘fairy tale’ of the final fantasy games. It feels a lot more western than its counterparts and its identity rooted in themes of love, friendship, courage, resilience and healing are some of the prime pillars of the genre. The character work really leaves you wanting more and that ending is just the absolute perfect close to the journey. Everytime it ends it’s like warmth for the soul. There are so many moments that are just perfect in that Final Cut scene and the music just ties it all together so well. So cathartic. Love the little touches too, seeing Seifer, after going through hell and manipulation, finally laughing again as he proudly watches Balamb fly off knowing his destiny is his own again and he is able to forge his own path and find where he belongs in the world. First played it back in 2000 and few games have come close to getting me so emotionally invested in its world and people.
I'm no Irvine fan but, fun fact: The reason he doesn't kill Edea at the beginning of the game is because he immediately recognized her as Matron. In fact.... There is a hidden story that usage of the GFs causes memory loss, which is why Squall Selfie and Quistis didn't recognize each other. Irvine used the GF later in the game so when he first met the crew he recognized everyone that he knew as kids.
Yep, and the reasin why he accepts the orders to take Rinoa from the prison to general Caraway is because he's pissed off for the SeeDs not remembering him.
This was the first FF that I enjoyed in my time, I cried just the same when I reached the end of the 4th cd and this video made me remember those emotions. And you also looked so Lovely expressing them. Thank you.

the only reason it got flack was due to the draw system and monster level progression. I honestly loved 8 the most out of all of them, well 8 is my second favorite now due to me loving 14 so much bu that doesnt really count, 8 had my favorite music, favorite characters and jesus the two ML and FL finally and actually get together and be happy. I love it so much!
@@averagecat5968 I actually love how FF8 had different systems than usual. Yes the Draw mechanics could have been made less tedious with a bit of extra work but I think the monster progression, junction battle and salary systems were great.
This was my favorite final fantasy. Reminds me of my Teen years, holds a special place. Glad you gave it a shot. The ending with laguna at his wife’s headstone always fucks me up.
Poor Laguna, his first love left him, and then the love of his life dies while giving birth to their first son...and he still kept trying to save the world, always being optimistic and never losing his smile (pretty much the oposite of said son).

I was in middle school when it came out. And my mental state at the time, my home surroundings and situation, let's just say that seeing the world through Squall's thoughts was a therapy at the time that I badly needed and I don't think I would have held the year that followed together had I not. Dead serious.
Yeah, Squall smiling for the first time in the entire game is pretty much the moment when we all lose it.

I absolutely loooove this Final fantasy ending, I believe it to be the best in the series. Squall's memories getting lost outside time and space and Rinoa passing through time and space to find squall and bring him back is just so well done (look Interstellar, ff8 did it first haha) and then the camera after credits showing everyone happy and healthy it's just perfection 👌👌👌 this game is ♥️
Phase one (main ending): you believe that Squall is lost forever in time. Phase two (main credits): you believe that years after life goes on anyway. Phase three (real end): Squall is alive and flies with Rinoa towards the future.

They remade VII so they could further milk the name. The rest don’t have anywhere near the same level of success. Plus if they remade it they’d ruin it. Much like VII. Rather than the remake we all wanted we go a new game. (Which granted, is a decent game. I just don’t wanna see VIII get the same treatment.)

Did you realize that Rinoa's mother was Julia, Laguna's first love interest? Eyes on me was Julia's song to Laguna. The song describes Julia's night with Laguna. FF8 is by far one of my top FF games for the story alone. They're all great, but this one was so different and memorable. This game reminds me of High School, I was a bit of an introvert and my high school gf pulled me out of my shell as well.

Absolutely one of my favorite moments in any game lol Squall spends the entire game so lost, unhappy, and lonely, that when you finally get to see him smile, it's so moving.
Same with Seifer, seeing him smile a genuine, at-peace smile

I like the symbolism in the last sequence of Balamb Garden leaving towards the moon: Rinoa as the moon (Sorceress powers) and Squall as the shape of Griever carved on it. Both as one.

This has got to be one of the best stories ever written. This will always be my number 1 FF game. The music, the experience, the characters, everything is just pure magic. How time flies by so fast, it has been 25 years already since my brothers and I played the game.

I love seeing people enjoy FF8 so much. This game was my childhood. We had it on PC, and had the chocobo minigame on it as well. Was such a great piece of narrative. If not a little spooky for little 8 year old me. Loved this game. Loved the emotion is had in its story. I would put a lot of my youth's romanticism to this game's influence.

Nothing like a random TH-cam recommendation taking me down an emotional rollercoaster. I excitedly finished this game (in what feels like another lifetime ago) right before I got on the bus to go to school... I was a wreck haha. The Laguna sequence is still the hardest. Great voice talent and a fantastic cover at the end
The story of 8 has always made it my favorite game, a broken guy finds the strength to trust and depend on others, finds the love of his life, and finally knows what it means to be happy.

I am GUTTED I only just saw this. Yet I am so happy that just one more person could be as moved as I was the first time I played it over 20 years ago. FF8 story wise is easily as good as FFX if not better and it pains me so much it did not get the recognition it deserves. 24:30 - I played this game with my brother as a kid. When we first beat it, we got to this fight, she said "and..." then I said "and shut up!" followed by standard attack from Irvine that ended the fight. Your ending was more epic, but I find it funny that we both got to that "and" then told her to shut up and immediately ended the fight.

I've started following you after this and I am really happy you enjoyed the journey! Hopefully Square might consider a remake similar to FF7's for this great work!
Still, after 30 years of gaming, this is the most satisfying ending sequence I have ever seen. I can't think of any other ending that made me this happy I completed a game. This truly felt like a reward for all the hours you put into playing.
Laguna and Raine in the field is the most emotional moment in the entire game IMO.

Final Fantasy VIII is perhaps one of the greatest Fantasy Romance Novels disguised as a video game ever, It left a mark on me when i played it. The music and visuals where enthralling and despite what others may say i enjoyed the new junction and draw system, as well as the best card game ever 'Triple Triad'.
Final Fantasy VIII is a masterpiece of a game, even 22 years later.

Final Fantasy 8 is so great! I love the original version character style better than the new character versions. The older style had darker eyes and looked more exotic. Square's decision to make them more "boy bandy" is a disappointment. The exotic look made them look more mysterious and romantic. Rinoa and Squall original images 💘
Seeing how emotional you reacted to that entire ending hit me right in the feels, like completely reliving my september 14th 1999 all over again.
To actualy experience this game, its story, to understand and connect with Squall on such a deep level, his feelings, what he went through, THAT is what made final fantasy 8 such a masterpiece

Sadly it was confirmed by the Devs that a lots of Laguna stuff had to be cut out due to the game already being on 4 discs. It was meant to go deeper into Laguna and Raine relationship and to definitely confirm that Squall is his son.
This needs to be in a future remake.

This girl prooves that a lot of the complaints about the broken battle system that’s too easy to exploit is baseless. Yes, it’s easy to overpower yourself if you know what you’re doing, but by that point you’ve already experienced the game. Yes, sitting there and drawing 100 of every magic can get incredibly dull but that’s clearly not what they game intends. You draw and refine magic as you go and gradually get more powerful.
The three Playstation titles (VII, VIII and IX respectively) were my first experience with the franchise and made me fall in love with it. For that reason the’ll always be special to me. The holy trinity of the series, if you will.

The difference between Seifer and Squall becoming Sorceress' Knights is that Seifer's 'romantic dream' to become a Sorceress' knight is born not from any care of the sorceress, but from his own ego; while Squall becoming a Sorceress' knight is a sincere vow of love to his sorceress- to Rinoa 🥺
Damn I remember the scene where you figure out Laguna’s son and Julia’s daughter get together after they miss out their own love, that was a nice ‘big brain’ moment. Pity you didn’t edit that in here, but regardless always love your FFVIII reaction video.
Also extremely happy that you just love the WHOLE cast instead of just Squall & Rinoa. The character development of other character in FFVIII is rather lacking and thus the characters often come off underwhelming. But regardless I always love all of them and glad you do too.
And Laguna’s ending scene with Raine is one of the most bittersweet moment in gaming ending, I remember crying when I realise Raine is dead (I was too young to piece things up together, pretty sure Ellone already mentions about her death), he’s such a tragic hero you can’t just not love him
I think the only characters that needed alot more development were Irvine and Selphie.
Then again they had all the main characters involved deeply in the main plot with them all being at the orphanage with Edea so maybe they thought doing that would mean they wouldn't have to do sidestories given how much they wanted to fit into the game. Im sure they'll do the game wonders with what it's missing once it finally gets remade though.
Hopefully we get to play Laguna even more lol.

Also besides the fact that this is not my favorite FF I think it has the best ending of the saga, its touching close the story completely and is fun and wholesome.
Beat this game back in 1999 when it came out, because i always used my brothers PS1 it was a no brainer to which my mother bought me my own PS1 and tv, and she got me FF8 timely right after my birthday because i kept seeing the tv adverts so i was bouncing across the couches like a made feral child because i played the ever loving hell out of FF7.
December last year i had the opportunity to play this game all over again with the HD Remaster, my core reason? to bring my now ex fiancee into the world of final fantasy. every moment hit her in every way i had hoped, she was in love with the story and the romance, eyes on me made her bawl her eyes out, the ending though? priceless reaction i'll never get back. this lead me to completing FFX with her also. sadly she gave up on our relationship of 3 years and engagement, the timing for her just wasn't right sadly, i lost my everything and seeing this really hit me emotionally to see someone else play this game through, those memories etched. i made her a playlist on Spotify 3 years ago when we first talked and met, safe to say the past two months have been horrible, but i slid eyes on me into her playlist i made for her.
Laguna and Raine’s love story is so sweet and so sad. They loved each other so much but couldn’t be there for each other, especially when Raine died. Laguna was torn by her death that he couldn’t talk about his wife at all. So glad that he finally could return to his wife TwT

VIII will always be my favourite due to it really being the most ‘fairy tale’ of the final fantasy games. It feels a lot more western than its counterparts and its identity rooted in themes of love, friendship, courage, resilience and healing are some of the prime pillars of the genre. The character work really leaves you wanting more and that ending is just the absolute perfect close to the journey. Everytime it ends it’s like warmth for the soul. There are so many moments that are just perfect in that Final Cut scene and the music just ties it all together so well. So cathartic. Love the little touches too, seeing Seifer, after going through hell and manipulation, finally laughing again as he proudly watches Balamb fly off knowing his destiny is his own again and he is able to forge his own path and find where he belongs in the world. First played it back in 2000 and few games have come close to getting me so emotionally invested in its world and people.
I'm no Irvine fan but, fun fact: The reason he doesn't kill Edea at the beginning of the game is because he immediately recognized her as Matron.

There is a hidden story that usage of the GFs causes memory loss, which is why Squall Selfie and Quistis didn't recognize each other. Irvine used the GF later in the game so when he first met the crew he recognized everyone that he knew as kids.
Yep, and the reasin why he accepts the orders to take Rinoa from the prison to general Caraway is because he's pissed off for the SeeDs not remembering him.

This was the first FF that I enjoyed in my time, I cried just the same when I reached the end of the 4th cd and this video made me remember those emotions.
