Manipur had already been divided into two parts by our MLR and LR Act 1960 as hills (92%) and valleys (8%). This Act is extended to the "whole of Manipur except the hill areas thereof." This land law with Articles 19(5) and 371(C) together have drawn a laxman rekha dividing hills and valleys. This dividing line becomes the buffer zone line. Aren't we paying the price of ignorance and negligence accumulated over the years by becoming today refugees (IDPs) in our State? Aren't we becoming the political prisoners under house arrest confined within a space of 6% of the total unable to cross beyond Awang Sekmai? Why did we fail to learn any lesson on demographic engineering that happened in Tripura and Sikkim? When the Ahoms and Koch Rajbongshis of Assam got the ST tag, the Meetei would be the last Mohicans in the entire NE fighting endless hordes of infiltrators without any Constitutional protection barehanded. Could this be the idea of a resilient Manipur? With every passing election, the political clout of Meetei is diminishing.

In every Lok Sabha election, the aboriginal Yelhoumee Meetei in the eight Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal, Kakching and Jiribam districts cannot contest and field candidates for no fault of theirs. The same has been the political destiny of Meetei living in the Churachandpur district also. Where have their political rights gone? Where has the political IQ of Meetei professors at MU and their ilk who opposed ST demand tooth and nail gone? How come they have a common agenda with illegal immigrants whose hidden agenda is open today in opposing the ST demand? Like the border fencing, who benefits when the demand is delayed? Our failure to understand the English equivalent of the Manipuri word Yelhoumee (aboriginal) written in India's Constitution is one of the causes of Meetei's existential crisis. Are we a group of self-styled Yelhoumees devoid of Constitutional recognition under Article 342(1) where a list of Manipur Yelhoumees is appended? Neither Meetei nor Meitei is there.
Manipur had already been divided into two parts by our MLR and LR Act 1960 as hills (92%) and valleys (8%). This Act is extended to the "whole of Manipur except the hill areas thereof." This land law with Articles 19(5) and 371(C) together have drawn a laxman rekha dividing hills and valleys. This dividing line becomes the buffer zone line.
Aren't we paying the price of ignorance and negligence accumulated over the years by becoming today refugees (IDPs) in our State? Aren't we becoming the political prisoners under house arrest confined within a space of 6% of the total unable to cross beyond Awang Sekmai? Why did we fail to learn any lesson on demographic engineering that happened in Tripura and Sikkim? Could this be the idea of a resilient Manipur? With every passing election, the political clout of Meetei is diminishing.
