    Once you've found the first episode of season 1 and start to understand the storyline you'll enjoy it much more. In my opinion 'Allo, Allo' is one of the best British comedyshows and on par with 'Fawlty Towers'.

    The accents in this show actually has a purpose, as they show what language the person is speaking. It's a brilliant way to show people speaking a language without actually speaking it, and an ingenious way to tackle language barriers.

    People with bad French accents are speaking French. With bad English accents, they're speaking English. With bad German accents, they're speaking German. Michelle of the resistance is bilingual, so her voice changes depending on whether she's speaking French or English.

      The thing I never understood was why the people with the French and German accents could understand each other just fine without needing to change but Michelle would have to speak with an English accent for the airman to understand her. Like René doesn’t need to speak with a German accent for the Colonel to understand him he just speaks with a French one still? I get that the story would just be too complicated if no one could understand each other but yeah… sorry if this makes zero sense

    I'm extremely happy you've started this, this is extremely good. But make sure you use the Wikipedia episode list so you know you're watching them in the right order. Each and every episode is a direct continuation of the previous one. If you played every episode back to back without the theme tunes, it'd be like a seamless, very long film. If you watch random episodes, the story wouldn't make sense because many of the jokes rely on things which happened in the previous episode. I understand you now know this isn't actually the first one. The first one is called "the British are coming"

    When I saw this dubbed on Belgian TV I realised what a puzzle they had created for translators. Little moments like saying cheerio when theyre pretending to be German would be hard to convey in a foreign language, but apparently it was successful all over the world.

      @karenmariavandecasteele6921 it must have been the subtitles that got me thinking about the translators then. Either way, it would be a nightmare with all the different languages portrayed through accents. How do you write a Dutch sentence in an English accent when the policeman character's speaking French badly?

      @@chiefaberach I know they turned it into a stage play a few years ago. Perhaps that is in Dutch? As it's performed live for a Dutch speaking audience? Because when I was reading that news, I was thinking the same thing. 😉

    The British Officers disguised as French with strings of onions around their necks, is a reference to the "Onion Johnnies". Who used to be a common site in the UK. They were were Breton farmers and agricultural labourers who travelled, originally on foot and later on bicycles, selling distinctive pink onions door to door in Great Britain. London's last Onion Johnny retired in 2005.

    Gordon Kay who played Rene played a straight guy in allo allo who was attractive to all the women characters but in real life was gay and his partner was my uncle's cousin, we never met him but by all accounts was a lovely man who nearly lost his life in a bad car accident which is visible on his face with a scar alot of years later in this sitcom so watch out for that folks.

    • @razor1uk610
      @razor1uk610 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ..Yes, I remember the genuine national shock that happened from that accident;
      ..whilst in slow traffic in his car, during a brief squall of a gale a shop sign was blown off its mountings, and plunged through the sunroof of Gordon's car, smashing his skull in and causing very considerable damage to his skull and the front of his brain.
      He very nearly didn't make it.
      The show was 'paused' for a 3 or 4 years while he recovered and healed by the shows creators and from the love of public and cast & crew for Gordon - as it was one of things that kept him 'fighting onwards' during the medical surgeries. the motor & cognitive therapy sessions AFAIK, and throughout the rest of the series he soldiered on with head-aches and some twitches and struggled through with many retakes to get his lines & their delivery as he wanted to appear unaffected in-character.

    You're watching undoubtedly the funniest TV Comedy besides Fawlty Towers from the UK. Unfortunately Comedy tastes here have changed so much. Little Britain is now reviled and personally I find TV Comedy here very strange and un-funny. Maybe because they have reverted to the US type of writing comedy: Team writers. The Great British shows were a product of either one or two writers at the very most. And that has let to the decline of British Comedy.
    Please go ahead and give us the enjoyment of watching your reactions to 'Allo, 'Allo. I love watching you wipe away the tears of enjoyment.

    My two favourite sitcoms Allo Allo and Dad's Army. The genius of Allo Allo is it's all in English spoken with French ,German, and Upper Class Received Pronunciation English for the English, and none of them understand what the other is saying.
    This is a send up / parody of the classic 1970s BBC & RTBF wartime drama Secret Army set in occupied Belgium. London funds a Belgium resistance cell to rescue British Airmen and get them back to England. As a cover for the operation a cafe/restaurant in Brussels frequented by the Gestapo and Luftwaffe Police who are trying to capture downed British Airmen for interrogation.
    Connor, you must do Dad's Army, this is the only classic sitcom the BBC still show every year on a main BBC channel.
    The other thing you may notice is the double entendre in British comedy making it suitable for kids and another meaning for the adults.Also reoccurring catchphrases like in Allo Allo "Listen very carefully I will say this only once." In Dad's Army "You stupid Boy"
    Great seeing your reactions to this classic comedy.
