By far the best nextcloud raspberry pi tutorial that I've attempted... and succeeded. They sure make this whole process convoluted and complicated for people that have moderate tech skills.
You sir have made our life simple. I had gone through lots of tutorials and lots of methods to setup nextcloud in my pi but they were all confusing or buggy. Thanks for this detailed and accurate tutaorial. Thumbs up!
Thanks for your explaination and it works even after one and a half year of this video. I have actually tried to use docker to install and run nextcloud, but failed. I just followed your steps and it was done just fine.
This video was a nice break on how to set up NextCloud. It was concise but still had a lot of information. Some segments did drag on a little longer than they should but some tutorials are much worse. Thanks!
Thanks dude, I tried to follow the instructions so many times and many times failed as well. However, I still believe you provide the easiest and today I started it from scratch again and voila..It works perfectly. I am from Indonesia, greetings.
I’m glad you did this. I’ve tried many different ways show on TH-cam. Mostly through docker & pertained since I already have OMV installed managing my SSDs. I haven’t been successful. I’ll give this one a try, but at the very end it didn’t look like it was really a secure connection. I didn’t see the lock. Update: It worked. I can’t access it using Brave browser but I can with MS Edge.
Huge thanks, man! This was a great video, clear and easy to follow. Loved that you had the webpage to copy/paste commands. Only point of feedback is a personal one where some of this (like SSL) is a bit new to me and I like hearing a bit about what I'm doing so I understand what changes are being made and why or just learn about new things at a deeper level. Just a suggestion, 100% got me up and running in the direction I needed and have given me more to take offline to learn! Thanks so much!
Pretty good tutorial video. At least you take a little bit of time explaining what each step is doing. So many of these Nextcloud videos, gloss over the steps, assuming that the follower understands all that is going on. I'm intermediately tech savvy. I'm in the middle of following your procedures now. I hope that if I run in to difficulties, you can help me out.
Great video. Do you think you could do a video on how to set up cloudflare to your Pi next cloud? I followed your video and it's great, but i can't seem to get my cloydflare domain i bought to connect to my nextcloud server
What is the performance like on a Rasp Pi 4 4 or 8 Gig? Can it handle video calls let's say between 2 and 5 people? Would these same instructions work if the installation took place on an refurbished computer running ubuntu 20.04? Thanks for your excellent tutorial!
Thank you very much for this one. Very detailed AND a link for the commands as well. Commendable to say the least, it earned you a sub and a like. Kudos to you from the banks of the Suwannee River over in White Springs, FL
Is there any chance that you have or could do a video, or provide a link to a video that sets up a ddns like duckdns that is compatible with this install approach?
If you leave the NAS PC laptop or desktop or Raspberry Pi 3B+ or 4 ... On, all the time, with NextCloud running,... on Linux OS,... for weeks or months or years, is any overhead damage on it? I mean used by atmost me or 2-3 other family members only? Eg 1-hour to 2-hours per day/week the most
Excellent Video. Thank you! Please take note that you skipped the unzip command, the mount was not so clear and also wifi is locked after boot and must be unlocked. Apart that everything was great!
Awesome tutorial, thank you. I do have some questions: First, when you created the certificate, the -days 365, is that for how long the certificate is valid? I would like to set it up once and not think about it for let's say one year. My second question is, is it possible to encrypt folders in the external storage or perhaps the whole USB? I would like to add an extra layer of security as I want to set up this cloud and connect to it outside my local network. Any other ideas/tips you have for making this thing as secure as possible? Once again, thanks man!
Thanks for this! I ran into an issue with the config file to have the image auto connect to wifi on boot. I found another article showing how to do this and their config was slightly different. country=US ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev update_config=1 network={ ssid="YOURSSID" scan_ssid=1 psk="YOURPASSWORD" key_mgmt=WPA-PSK } For all I know both work and I just fat fingered the first one. This one has the advantage of being able to copy paste it though.
hi Nico great great detailed work unfortunately I got stuck at the mounting part 1. you have and sda drive with the label pstorage, is this needed? 2. your sda drive has an exfat file system, I cant create this with the sudo mkfs -f exfat /dev/sda1, so I use the standard ext4? 3. why you have to put 0 2 after the UUID=908D-CDD4 /media/pstorage auto defaults,uid=33,gid=33 0 2 ? 3. when I sudo mount -a I got an error "mount: /media/pstorage: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error hopefully you can help, thanks
i had same issue i bought a new clean external usb storage and work like charm, if you had any partition on that drive, for some reason does mount correctly to do this process, hope it helps
2 questions please: 1. Why create and use 2nd user instead of the pi user? 2. It seems to me that the password for Mariahdb being "password" is problematic to me. Wouldn't that be a security problem? Can I use a different password? Thanks for a very straightforward way of setting up nextcloud.
Creating another user for other processes is common and benefic one way or another. You can also use the pi user. Yes you can use any other password you want. And yes if you are using "password" as your passkey is very bad for your security. (The bruteforce process is using these simple passkeys as their first tries, so consider not using them if you get out of the LAN zone) Hopefully these informations can be helpful!
Hello what I want to know is, can the pi make an ad hoc network so that I can use it in my caravan to backup GoPro videos. I want to connect to the ad hoc network with my phone and upload straight to the device over wifi but not over the internet. Thanks
Hey thanks for the Tut, I am traying to gain remote access thought a domain. however it asks me to set up a trusted domain in a config.php file. Does anyone know where I can fins the file or where to generate it if it does not exist thanks.
Hi How can I set the memory from SSD to be the main memory? now I have this disk as an additional one (in nextcloud) and I would like all the files that are synchronized to be saved on the ssd instead of on the sd card

I've googled everything and cant figure this out. Followed instructions all the way down to DOCUMENT ROOT, then the reboot, then entering the IP into the browser for Nextcloud. When I do that, I get "this version of nextcloud requires at least PHP 7.4, you are currently running 7.3........." So I followed instructions elsewhere to update the Pi PHP to 8.2, and when I run "php -v" in the Pi, it tells me I am running 8.2.3. But entering the IP in the browser still returns the same error. And in typical internet fashion, every single search result I find for this is people asking about it in forums, and the people in the forums saying "google is your friend". One minor 'glitch' so far. When you go to 'nextcloud.com/install/#instructions-server' it now takes you to a VM version of Nextcloud. A program called 'Official-Nextcloud-VM.zip. That does not work, no /nextcloud directory is created. It is better to go instead to 'download.nextcloud.com/server/releases/' There you can find Nextcloud-22.1.0.zip, as well as later versions of Nextcloud.

the nextcloud that you use for this project is free or not ?
Thank you man you made it easier....
Have you done a video covering the standout features/apps for Nextcloud? I still deciding if it's worth trying out or not.
Great Video. Have you done a video about clients for this software? IOS, ANdroid, PC etc?
Great how to video! Thankyou for posting.

You could just use the Rasppberry Pi Imager and it saves you all that enabling of SSH and WiFi connection. It's been doing that for ages.

We have followed that all step but when we have try to open nextcloud over the internet then it throw error
It says no file such directory
