It was my 7th or 8th essay on TP watched on YT for last weeks, right after finishing the TP2. Just can't get enough of it, ya know. I can say this essay is the most personal one, made on a sweet spot of all the quality lines in a multi-dimensional perception of human beings. It is a kind of a play-through, revealing the most critical points of data about the whole story, but also revealing something deep and humble and naive about the author himself. Things like these, as well as people created them are worth of generations to remember.
Among the many, many things I adore about this game, I love that it also says how beautiful humanity can be. How much love there is stored to humans. We love the world, we love people, we want it to continue, not because we are selfish, but because there is so much that can exist. Our art, our creativity, our passion. This game is a love letter. The Talos Principle is truly a game like no other. A masterpiece.
Hello, my friend. I played this game in 2017. I liked it pretty much. I began to play the second part some weeks ago. With the vibe of going back to this peculiar world, I wanted to refresh the ideas of the first game. I stumped upon this video as a consequence. I watched it and I want to tell you that the work that you did is marvelous. Thank you very much for the time that you dedicated to it. I cherish and appreciate it. Thank you. It feels closer to humanity to watch this type of videos. To feel that your feelings are also in others... Warmest regards.
This is superb. I relate very much with your personal account at the end, and the entirety of the conclusion felt really good to hear. Not to mention the very well done synopsis and presentation of the game and its themes. Just felt like saying thanks for making this video.
Wow... This game has hit me so hard in ways I still can't explain, but you certainly came really close to doing so. I played it 3 times in the last 3 years since I first got it and I always thought to myself "this is not just a video game... this is something else... something more". It's beautiful, It's sad, It's peaceful, It's even kinda scary at some points. It's annoying. It's meditative. Fulfilling. Damn, I would even call it "productive". Those challenges really exercise the brain. The music is just 100% perfect in clearing and expanding the mind. So much so that I even play the soundtrack whenever I need to focus on solving something at work lol. I already know the ending. I already know the whole backstory, and yet there's still something so inexplicably beautiful and mysterious about it that I know I'm gonna find new things in it even if I play it a hundred more times... I know I'm not alone at this, and I thank you for expressing it so good. This is by far the best video I've seen about this game.
The Talos Principle was the last game I ever fully played. Nothing comes close to the sublime feeling of this living artwork. That's what it is. It's a living piece of art that changes each time we look at it, and it changes us every time we look at it.
The music got seriously annoying after about 70 hours for me 😊. I am however convinced that one of the themes is based on King Crimson - starless and Bible Black. Check it out and you’ll see what I mean!
I can't believe this game was released in 2014. I was fully prepared to see 2019 or more recent in your video description, seeing how heavily the game references chatbots and AI. The whole subject of the game is coming to life now that AI research is accelerating so rapidly.
This video was very interesting, the concept of our creations continuing on long after our bodies crumble and our buildings collapse is beautiful. Almost like how the same proses happens naturally with our offspring. I believe the next step of our evolution is to create beings that could upgrade the human condition, be smarter and more resilient than us without losing our compassion and our complexity.
Was not expecting to cry by the end of this video, it was your complete genuineness that got me. Masterpiece man this along with SOMA are some of the best video game break down videos I've ever seen.
48:45 this broke me into tears. This game is a masterpiece, and my memory is trash. I recommended this game to a few of my friends and family, and they aren't realizing what they are missing out on (and haven't played it not realizing what it has to offer). I hope at least one person reads this because I really wish people to understand what I was thinking about. Because of many things, I have thought of committing suicide like 4 or 5 times. The thinking, rational person that I am, came to the realization that even if we tried our best and damnedest to survive and thrive (by colonizing multiple star systems and galaxies), ultimately the universe itself will die. Either black holes would grow so large that the universe becomes one giant black hole which decays into nothingness because of Hawking Radiation, or the universe expands because of Dark Energy and we slowly lose each and every star from our observable universe, and then dark energy overcomes the weak electromagnetic force holding molecules together, which is also known as the Heat Death of the Universe. Either way no matter how you look at it, humanity is doomed to die. I always thought my life would not be meaningless if I contributed something to further our species technologically so one day, we do touch the Sun (metaphorically), and then thrive eternally. But in our laws of the universe there is no concept of eternity. Our laws of physics do not allow even the universe itself to stay coherent, and it is not because of entropy (which is an entirely different beast). Meaning, there is nothing we can do to be an eternal species. We can cheat eternity by creating a simulation and then potentially thrive for eternity, but that probably means that the simulation won't be nearly as good as the current reality we have right now. I have tried to think through this multiple times, and then I still succumb to nihilism. As Socrates also said that "To not have been born at all might have been the greatest boon" and I really do agree, because any person who sees through all the BS normal humans go through every day, will see that it is only Nihilism, nothingness, that prevails, anything else is irrelevant. But this 48:45 right here absolutely broke me. I agree 100%. Our universe through all its nihilistic inevitability still can't escape the fact that we have created beauty with our own two hands, beauty that others will appreciate. Any work that you truly love made by some other person fulfills that. Just this one thing, just this tiny thing, may mean that if someone else loves the work that I have created, my life has had meaning. My life hasn't been for nothing. This is beauty in its purest form. And thank you for creating this amazing video, I hope more people watch it. Although, in this day and age of people being satisfied by ephemeral gratification, people won't appreciate this game, or the concepts it has to present. It is sad, but such is life.
You know, life is like a sandbox game. You create your own purpose, your own adventure. It’s okay for our existence to not have any purpose. However this notion is something that we as intelligent beings struggle to accept. Which is also perfectly understandable because if there is no given purpose why do we live? Do we simply exist to … exist? I say, yes. What is wrong with simply existing? Like you said it is indeed these audio fragments that make you realise the beauty of simply being. These audio tapes also made me realise how good it is to have other people but I can’t put my finger on why exactly these tapes did that. The one where Alex doubts her own achievements while slowly dying in particular was very touching. In any case your purpose is something that you can create yourself. If you chose not to have any purpose and to simply live than that’s also perfectly fine. One might be able to argue that this would also be a form of purpose. Therefore I say live on, friend. May you find something or someone that gives you purpose. I am sure that you will or possibly already have.
This video is close to how I try to describe the Talos Principle to the other people. I'm so glad you've laid this out for other people to witness. Congratulations.
Between this video and your Soma review, your ability to write reviews of games you love are incredible. I wish for a day where you get to create more works of art like this. Thank you for what you have created. I hope that your life is going well. Cheers.
While SOMA is one of my favorite games of all time, Talos Principle stands out as, what I'd consider, the best game I've ever played. It's just.... everything about it is so... so good. I realize not everyone will connect to it, or really dig in, but for those that do... damn.
Jea, i love games with deep meaning, like SOMA or The Talos Principle. Any more good recommendations like those? I could add ''The Witness'', love the Albert Einstein Recordings. The game effected how deep I am able to question and look at things. Another recommendation would be ''Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered''. It teaches you that all your life choices have consequences.
@@PierreChen91 I couldn't get into The Witness for some reason. The mystery wasn't enough to compel me to keep doing line puzzles. I'm also not a huge fan of David Cage writing, so I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy it. Like, he has some interesting ideas and concepts, but execution feels weird. As for recommendations? Hm... If you like the sci-fi horror I cannot recommend the game "Observation" highly enough! It's fairly short, but the story and voice acting are amazing, especially if you like hard sci-fi with a base built on real world science and research. Some games that hit me hard on a more emotional level, but weren't puzzle games, I really liked "Life is Strange" (it was hard for me to get into, but if you can make it through episode 2, you'll be hooked). "To The Moon" is a masterpiece built in RPG maker, but with fantastic story and very much hit me like a ton of bricks. "The Beginner's Guide" Very much only a walking simulator... only like 2 hours long, so get it on sale. It's not for everyone, but I played it back in 2015 and it's stuck with me to this day. Finally, if you haven't played **"The Outer Wilds"** (not Outer Worlds).... you MUST play it. Don't look up anything about it, don't even watch the trailer. Just buy it and play it. Many consider it the best game ever made, and I tend to agree. If you like a game with a big mystery that you have to figure out by yourself, you'll be greatly rewarded. :)

Regarding the "words are the world" section, I got painfully reminded of Wittgenstein there. He basically said that "the limits of one's words/language are the limits of one's world" as well. Wittgenstein was very much into the idea of language and perception/reality being intrinsically linked.
Anyone who learned a second or third language to the point of knowing the finer points of it, especially a language that is completely "alien" to the culture they grew up in, knows that to be true. Anyone who didn't learn a second language up to this point will probably not understand, how that is possible :-)
@@frederickrueger7861 Definitely true. I am amazed at how well you have done these videos, With the SOMA one and this reminding us why it is so fascinating that these types of topics are touched in video games. Love it
i watched the entire video and i really enjoyed it. wont lie, im not smart enough to understand most of the stuff u said but i really loved the ending monologue.
This game is just messed up. The ending, in the best case scenario, leaves the immortal robot/AI completely alone on Earth long after all humans were all eradicated. (Imagine the billions of human skeletons everywhere!!). But my main contention with the ending is that there was no reason to shut down and delete the entire simulation after one single success. The humans should have left that infrastructure in place to allow for more simulations to transcend. All they needed was the first one to enter the robot body, then it would have the choice to maintain and fix the existing glitches and corruption and build more robot bodies. I think that's the ultimate test of humanity. Earth could be either be repopulated with a new cybernetic race, or perhaps even develop a cure and birth new humans. The old humans clearly wanted our species to survive in any form, so they would have left enough genetic material and frozen embryos to allow them one day to be born again. Instead, we got a Forever Alone ending. The shutdown and deletion feels more like an F You and I didn't like it at all.
You deserve so many more views for this video. I love this game, and I love your video essay. And what a fantastic message! Thank you so much for this. I can't wait for the next!

GREAT Vid. The Talos Principle stands out as potentially one of the scariest existentialist pieces of video game literature. Milton (whom I'm certain is based on THE Milton who wrote Paradise Lost) is clearly a stand-in for Satan to juxtapose against Elohim's God. Elohim is a symbolic stand-in for our our parents, our teachers, or our mentors who want both the best for us. Unfortunately, what they consider to be the best for us is often restricted by pure ego. It can even harm us. Sometimes, listening to the snake - the darkness - that shadow - is completely necessary, because being a slave is ultimately not sustainable.
40:20 A fine example of the times during this excellent video that I’ve felt very close to discovering that *I* am a program in a simulation. Basically describes my life since early teens. Is teenage angst actually just a quality assurance software protocol?
It’s an amazing game, my first time playing it I had just left a religion I had been in for 18 years, practically my whole life up until that point. I remember resenting Elohim just for being a religious character. I think the game really helped me in a lot of ways I can’t really phrase
Where's Zyggie :( Just let us know you're alive dude.. 😔 Edit: I checked Twitch, Twitter, etc. all gone dark, no pun intended. I hope you've just moved on to bigger and better things. If something happened to you, I'm gonna legit be heartbroken man. You spend enough time watching someone you start to care about them :(
the tower part should've been better to use once yu exit world a and see it having it as early as here makes first time players confused :) edit: the log bout els problem in the tower gets me all th time one can really hear her fatigue her anxiety and fear that it might all fall apart it's so splendidly done that i always find myself wanting to go into the world and hold her n tell her it'll be alright
The Talos Principle is not about purpose, nor is it as ambivalent as you suggest at the end. As the very name suggests, TTP is about confronting necessary materiality and mortality of our life. In world A, we are presented with the principle, and its debilitating effects on our regular notion of immortality (primarily through library entries); in world B, we are presented with its debilitating effects on our regular notion of what it means to be a person, primarily through our interactions with MLA; finally, in world C, we are presented with the solution, primarily through Brennan's recordings on intelligence and necessity of cooperation. This is why worlds A and B are of death and ruin, while C is of faith. Purpose is mentioned mostly as a facet of issues about immortality. The game is very clear on its message, its not very relativistic in the sense that you present it, though this is a very good video otherwise! Enjoyable, very enjoyable
The game feels like it's missing something major. The conflicting themes between nihilism and existentialism is missing a third position to consider. The robot does have a purpose in life, it was literally built for a purpose, to be a preserver of humanity. This is inarguably the purpose of it's existence, outside any independent choice it might make.
Hey, how did you get the part of “Fire F*c*er” in Season 2 Episode 6 of the Witcher? Is that why you haven’t touched it yet? Conflict of interest? Ha ha. No really, You won’t need to do your glue over face. Get on it dude!
If you look close at the text on the computer at the end ( 1:06:27 ) it says “saving child parameters for SOMA/TALOS gold disk” so they very well could be connected
Great video, but I'd like to point out your voice's tone confuses me sometimes. The transition between the game narrative and your personal life gets blurred as the context could apply to both (you and the stories of people with QRs around the game). Doesn't need a montage (fade out) to signal the transition; a pause and change of tine would suffice.

The old humans clearly wanted our species to survive in any form, so they would have left enough genetic material and frozen embryos to allow them one day to be born again.
Instead, we got a Forever Alone ending. The shutdown and deletion feels more like an F You and I didn't like it at all.
Theres a Talos 2 in development, perhaps we will get to see better of that
the sequel is out
they are not alone
You deserve so many more views for this video. I love this game, and I love your video essay. And what a fantastic message! Thank you so much for this. I can't wait for the next!
thank you for this. The talos principle is one of the most important & impactful games to me. and beautiful commentary. again thank you
This chanell makes a load of reaction videos and then makes masterpieces like this. This is amazing.
36:32 I’m experiencing odd, yet strikingly familiar vibes from a certain… cake… a… seemingly untruthful… cake… of legends past and portals far away….
Man this video essay is good
this video helped me undertstand the games lore and message alot better. thank you for making this
You should also do a short vid on the DLC Road to Gehenna
What an incredible video! Talos Principle truly is a masterpiece. Your analysis and closing remarks are very meaningfull and reflected my own experiences with the game and with life as a whole very well.
Can't wait for this video to suddenly blow up in like 9 months lol
Omg this was beautiful, your final words were definitely “human”. Thank you so much!
I hope you are okay, Zyg! It truly is okay to have different days, joy and discomfort sometimes lie close together, but we get through together.
Somehow your last thoughts struck me to the bottom of my heart. Hope you are well and keep going. Great video and content by the way. Keep it up. Have a nice one.
What a great wideo! You reminded me of this game and how much and why I love it: D Going in chronological order was very nice choice here. I could feel it all again in a way. Thank you
Great video. This was a brilliant game. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I finished.
Man, I wish you made more video essays. You explained the talos principle perfectly. It's such a beautiful game, and it's very hard to describe in words what is so good about it, but you did that. good job man, and forever shoutouts to croteam for making this beauty
I have no idea what's going on but the sunken cost fallacy is real, and I'm just gonna stay and see if it makes sense by the end.
This was beautifully done. Thank you.
Perfect recap after just finishing the sequel. Brilliant.
Just like many people in the comments I teared up as well. What you are saying at the end really touches a sensitive spot.
I love this game, played it not long after SOMA - and they make excellent companion pieces.
The Talos Principle 2 is out and I really hope you do a thoughtful examination of it, as well. It’s the same writers as the first game, and it shows.
You don't have to change the world. Some times making someone else's life a little better can change the world for the better.
Master Zygart!! I hope all is well! Where are you brother?
I honestly love all of these types of videos that you've done, the Soma video was amazing, and so was this one. Hope you make more of them in the future, you're extremely underrated. c:
almost sounds like an allegory of the untold story of the devil
I thought this video would show me how to get past a certain puzzle not change my whole world view!
Thank you for the message at the very end. Im stuck in life as well... but that message helped me to feel better about myself, my life and to try to move forward at least for the week... i truly appreciate it. Thank you 🥲🌹
Goodbye 😢
It was so weird playing this and SOMA at just about the same time.
Talos Principle is an absolute masterpiece. It's very rare that a game can actually change the way I see life.
God damn that was a ride--
Another Amazing essay. Please make more.
What a fantastic video! I love this game so much and it really truly changed my life
Are you going to be reviewing the last season of the expanse?
Fantastic video.
Missing your reactions hope all is well!
another masterpiece well worth the wait. Thank you Ziggy!!
Idk if i already commented but this video was fire.. hope you keep making these
this was amazing
Hey man you good? Haven't seen ya in months, hope everything is alright!
Where's Zyggie :(
Just let us know you're alive dude.. 😔
Edit: I checked Twitch, Twitter, etc. all gone dark, no pun intended. I hope you've just moved on to bigger and better things. If something happened to you, I'm gonna legit be heartbroken man. You spend enough time watching someone you start to care about them :(
Intro music is the same as the ending of "The Mist" Movie?
Will you come back for Talos Principal 2 ❤
This game and SOMA are my favorite games
The soundtrack is also amazing
the tower part should've been better to use once yu exit world a and see it having it as early as here makes first time players confused :) edit: the log bout els problem in the tower gets me all th time one can really hear her fatigue her anxiety and fear that it might all fall apart it's so splendidly done that i always find myself wanting to go into the world and hold her n tell her it'll be alright
HEY !!! Are you doing ok?? I hope so.
I hope you'll be back soon!
:)
You are so entertaining
The game hits differently when played in VR
I wonder if you're doing okay
I will never be able to play a game this amazing :(
You can do it bro i believe
The game feels like it's missing something major. The conflicting themes between nihilism and existentialism is missing a third position to consider. The robot does have a purpose in life, it was literally built for a purpose, to be a preserver of humanity. This is inarguably the purpose of it's existence, outside any independent choice it might make.
Thinking further on it, this perspective is told directly to you through alexandras audio logs. She is your true creator.
So is this the last video or will there be more?
I wonder if she is talking about Trevor in the beginning.
Does anyone know what song plays in the intro?
I watched all of it and i still only understand little of it
Hey, how did you get the part of “Fire F*c*er” in Season 2 Episode 6 of the Witcher? Is that why you haven’t touched it yet? Conflict of interest? Ha ha. No really, You won’t need to do your glue over face. Get on it dude!
Elohim sounds a lot like Izaro of Path of Exile.....maybe same voice actor?
👏🏾
I like to think that this and SOMA are taking place at the same time, or in the same universe/era
If you look close at the text on the computer at the end ( 1:06:27 ) it says “saving child parameters for SOMA/TALOS gold disk” so they very well could be connected
So did he pass away ?
I love your video here, May Irepost this video on Bilibili?
💞💞💞💞💞💞
Great video, but I'd like to point out your voice's tone confuses me sometimes. The transition between the game narrative and your personal life gets blurred as the context could apply to both (you and the stories of people with QRs around the game). Doesn't need a montage (fade out) to signal the transition; a pause and change of tine would suffice.
👌👌👏👏👍🌷
