Excellent place to learn about Aquaponics & hydroponics ,I'm personally satisfied with the workshop I attended on December 2011 , The AES team with the association of Dr Rockosy were fantastic , on the four days workshop , on demonstrating the UVI system ,and how anyone can grow basically anything hydroponically.I 'll definitlly recommend these people as a good reference in the field. Our system utilizes gravity along with a high efficiency water pump and regenerative blower. The water pump is used for circulation and the blower for aeration.
@tommexplorer Thanks Salim! We are so glad you were able to join us last time! Keep us updated on your ongoing or future projects! Thanks for your kind words.
Really depends on the type of fish. If using something like Tilapia then you can get away with 1 fish per 10 litres (about 1 fish per every 2 gallons). Due to the fact when they get big enough you will be harvesting them. If your using Koi then remember Koi require a lot more space per fish.General rule of thumb in Koi keeping is 1 fish per 10 gallons of water due to the size Koi will grow. so with Tilapia if you have a 1000 litre tank 219 gallons 100 fish if Koi then 21 fish for that size tank
stratect: The system being described is an aquaponics system, which means the fish and plants exist in a symbiotic relationship where the fish are fed high quality feed. The fish waste is then used as nutrients by the plants. We do use non GMO and heirloom variety plants in our systems. You can get much more detail by attending one of our workshops! Email Ponics(at)AquaticEco(dot)com for more information on how to sign up.
ravetildon: Thanks for your interest. No, we are not currently filming our workshops... we want to see you and interact with you - it's the best way you can learn about this topic and industry. Please email Ponics(at)AquaticEco(dot)com for more information on how to sign up. We'd love to see you in March!
We are hosting a comprehensive aquaponics course Oct. 2-6. It will feature Dr. James Rakocy and Dr. Wilson Lennard. Both have a wealth of experience with large scale systems. We will also provide system blueprints and provide the knowledge to design a scalable system.
You mentioned University of Virgin Islands ... do they have a handbook or text on how to do this and statistics such as how much plants per fish you can grow, etc. This is a nice simple system, very nice for instruction ... do you give classes or know any place that teaches how to do this?
For those who prefer to build a purposeful, basic, effective and affordable aquaponics system, you need to see how to place it altogether and retain it the right way.
I always wonder if the cost of the fish food is accounted for? Is it expensive to feed the fish enough to gain anything in return in the form of fish meat? I haven't seen this issue addressed in any youtube video I've seen so far. Just curious if this is expensive or not. Good video.
just want to ask about if we are using water pump, does the water pump have to run Continuous if not how many times we have to run the water pump per day please advice
do you use pumps or is it all gravity? i grow milk fish and pompano and i'm planing on going small scale tilapia farming, i want to copy your set up. can you give me the details ?
those are nice looking tanks. Where can you source them? Are they a special type? I am just getting ready to build my system. Currentlly using IBC Totes for the tanks, but really like these and have been unable to find a place that sells them.
I'm interested in starting a small commercial business using aquaponics here in Houston, Texas...can you help me get started? I've been trying to find a company that can offer a turn key system that has experience in commercial use, not just backyard growers/producers. Thanks so much.
There are many factors in learning home aquaponics. One place I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Keiths Ponics Site (check it out on google) without a doubt the best course that I've heard of. Check out this super website.
In case you wish to build a handy, fundamental, helpful yet low-priced aquaponics system, you'll want to figure out how to place it all together and preserve it properly.
You probably can build a indoor garden which does not require weeding, tilling or cultivating, the spreading of fertilizer or compost, without any watering or irrigating; all while your vegetables produce up to 10 x the amount of veggies than plants from a dirt garden.
What do the fish have to do in all of this? what's their job in producing veggies? What do you feed them and how much? The video showed the fish in extremerly crowded conditions. I don't think PETA would approve (?). Was that just a coincidence? feeding time? The veggies look great. Do you use heirloom seeds or hybrid genetically engineered stuff? Questions, questions... Thanks
to much filtration for aquaponics your grow beds should be your main filter as you are filtering out a lot of the nutrients for the plants if your worried about build up of fish waste in the grow beds then just add garden worms to your grow beds to break that down.
hi everyone ,if anyone else is searching for aquaponic gardening system try Aqua Recovery Tactics (aqua.RecoveryTactics.com ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my m8 got excellent results with it.
fish school naturally...just because theres a river this doesn't mean the fish spread out over the whole river. If you have ever seen underwater videos on any diving show fish travel in high density schools. Clean water, good nutrition and no stress equals happy fish
There are several components to learning home aquaponics. One resource I found that succeeds in merging these is the Keiths Ponics Site (check it out on google) definately the no.1 info i've heard of. Check out this unbelievable resource.
Koi can be consumed too....They are not poisonous, you know....just a tad expensive. But you can sell the pretty Koi and eat the boring bland coloured ones...
Lovely Video! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Patlarny Gardening Expert Principle (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing exclusive product for learning how to expand your produce with the clever art of aquaponics without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate at very last got astronomical results with it.
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to uncover aquaponics courses try Tarbetti Amazing Aquaponics Tutor (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my brother in law got cool success with it.
