My car has the same issue, a lot of play but no problem getting into gears. I talked to the local Saab specialist but getting a new linkage is crazy expensive. Atleast here in The Netherlands. This video will help me to try and get at it myself for as much as I can. Thanks for the good footage and explanation, looking forward to the next part!
Here in the US, the linkage for 2004.5 and older is an absurd $760 USD. But the 2004.5 and newer cars have an updated one for $160. Anyways, thanks and good luck! 👍
I've seen some people rebuild the linkages with metal rods and bushings, I'd definitely like to try doing that to mine but I'm not really sure what it involves...
@@BWTECH0521 Defintely not urgent, I'll stay tuned! Shifts are fine but just not as tight as they could be, a short shifter kit would probably help too but I like having the character of the long-throws stock haha.
I’m amazed you’re able to reach that linkage at all. I have had some problems with mine and even without filming it’s almost impossible to both reach it and see it at the same time.
Looks like your shifter balljoint assembly is well worn. It should not flex like it did @1:30. A new unit will make you very happy. A Redline MT85 fluid change will make it happier too, although you will want to drive and warm it up before hammering it since it is a slight bit thicker than stock fluid. It is not hard to change the fluid at all. Toss those 12 point sockets in a drawer, and only use them in an emergency. They are really only good for emergency, and tend to strip boltheads easily. Lol.
yes, I agree mine is toast lol. I've done a trans fluid change on my old Viggen and I assume it's exactly the same. And yes I bought those 12 point sockets a long time ago and need to get a new 6 point set! Thank you for the great tips!!

Clear instructions, great footage and you even gave us the torque settings!
Great! Is that your first saab? Let me know if you have any questions!
@@BWTECH0521 Technically yes, but I'm born into Saab in sweden.
Not many videos on fixing these cars, and especially not any proper good ones
