this reminded me of my grandfather. He's not among us but he made innovative things like these. He made three f.m. radios all by his experience. I am a proud grandson. Though these crude innovations didn't give him high stature but mental satisfaction.
    Respect for this old man.

If anyone who can give India it's real technology, these are the people who does jugaad. Many people think jugaad is a cheap thing, but according to me it is real engineering with cost effectiveness. And such jugaad can only be done by those who doesn't go to school rather learns from their own intellect and experience. In fact, engineering colleges should hire such talented people as teachers. A big salute to such people.

Thank you Subhash for the video. As a student of history of technology in India, I find this story inspiring because it shows how technology has existed even without the disciplinary boundaries of science and engineering. By institutionalising these kinds of education, we probably do more harm than good also because there is the sense of a one-way flow of technology from the west to the east. But this amazing old gentleman has shown that technology is as much about intuition, creativity and experimentation which does not require textbook knowledge. I hope that we will be able to find many such stories from all around India and bring them to light. Thanks once again.

Hundreds and hundreds of years of foreign rule (including British) have led to a deeply rooted mentality among Indians of criticizing achievements of other Indians and seeing their own country, which was the economic leader all the way from year 1 till 17th century, in a bad light. Self loathing and criticizing is the norm. This dude has created a very useful device out of the materials he had and all this while remaining in his budgetary boundaries. If you can criticize him and even the country, then I can tell you, there is something very wrong you see yourselves and your own nation. Be proud.

For me this person has done something on his own to increase the efficiency of his job without depending on any others' products. We are in an era where we write reviews about some product and say it was ill engineered for our needs.
This could be seen as a small thing by critics and people who have learned enough but didn't achieve something befitting their Engineering degrees.
A Big Salute Sir! for Engineering a solution on your own to meet your need going way beyond what you learned. We need more Engineers like you than just being critics.

A very good innovation indeed. Like him, there are many among us who are natural engineers, innovators, thinkers and makers but life gave them something else to choose for, Corn roasting being one of the examples. I particularly liked the part where he said " I do it all for my own satisfaction", Passion is such a thing, it entangles you even when life strikes you hard, hard enough. Had all these passionate minds gotten a chance to train themselves into engineering, India would have had gotten many Abdul kalams instead of just one.
Today India is training 1.5 million engineers every year, A market, so large that it misses out on small people like Madeshwaran.
A very good initiative by Subhash G, who is sharing all these intriguing stories over the internet. i hope you are still in touch with the guy. I sincerely feel some of us, with a little bit of formal engineering education in our belly, should help people like Madeshwaran in their innovations in whatever way possible.Starting with me, I wanted to put my idea as an add on to this innovation.
    # Carefully watching this video one can see that after installing the fan, the amount of coal that is burning is significantly higher than what it used to be with the hand fan(because the electric fan acts as a blower spreading the air all across), which might turn out to be a loss to Madeshwaran in the long run. Instead if he could use something like a cone over the fan, that could restrict the air from spreading and hence he could concentrate it directly on the place where he needs the coal to burn resulting in an overall increase in his yield.
@Subhash G, I trust you to convey this information to Madeshwaran, and don't forget to upload one more video if he really does that.

Necessity is the mother of invention... and no one does it better than us Indians... The only difference between an innovation/invention & a jugad? When an english speaking "educated" person does it, it is "innovation/invention," when a poor desi man does it, it is JUGAAd....

A good chrome painting for all the fittings will just make this fan look absolutely awesome,
It is very well built with iron and steel, It is way better than most fans we see in the market
He must improve on the looks of the device and also give small adapter with output 6V 2A. This device can sell like wonder.

When a poor man makes something out of nothing, it is called jugaad. People who haven't liked this video are worst learners and perhaps lack of sense/s.. To me the video is interesting because hed has presented an extraordinary level of creativity spending his valuable time.
