I am learning this piece now and notice she is relaxed and lets her notes ring so nicely, has very disciplined left and right hands. In the pizzicato part that leads up to the harmonic on the 19th fret she plays what is a series of what I see as eighth notes as a series of two sixteenth notes. I like her version better. I like the way she effectively stretches and tightens the tempo for feeling and sometimes pauses between sections. It flows beautifully and it is like flamenco which is always passionate. I began taking lessons 5 years ago at age 58 and no doubt would like to take a few lessons from her, but I doubt my wife would allow it (the 'she's too good looking ' rule - LOL). Classical guitar was always on my bucket list, inspired by the vinyl records my parents played when I was young. I now put in 2 hours a day and look forward to retiring when I can put in more time. Sharon is a real talent and truly gives something to aspire to!
Oh yes very good! I have just heard 10 different artists. Maybe your interpretation is one of the best. I have you always loved. (Your music) since I was young. One can see (hear), why you won the ARD Musikwettbewerb long ago. ! Great!
I've seen this song played by so many Guitarist from different cultures and races. From Segovia and John Williams to unknown musicians. Your technique, delivery and color of sound is very impressive I definitely can say the hours of practice definitely show. Congrats on such an amazing job.
I have known this piece for more than 40 years and heard dozens of versions, both guitar and the original piano. This one has moved me (more than usual). My Spanish heart vibrated with Sharon's version. Thank you so much.
I don't see how anyone can criticize this, it is played perfectly and the video itself it very tastefully and professionally done, personally, I really appreciate this video.
Iron Feliks I guess there are many different levels of accomplish guitarists . …. and this girl has certainly accomplished this piece ! I think if anyone one has anything negative to say …. it would probably be her manner in which she over does the drama in her movements . In other words she's not as good as she thinks she is ! Although this is just a video . I'd prefer just to watch her play without the ego !
jionnie I'm thinking that you might not know who she is. She really is as good as she thinks she is. In fact, to get to her level of perfectionism, she's probably more critical of her own playing than any of her critics are. I think that she's earned the right to display a bit of a stage persona, especially considering that she's one of those performance-crazy instructors at Juilliard who make it their life's ambition to foster similar passion in their students. She's inspired my kids, who started classical guitar at ages 7 and 9 respectively. They love her playing and classical guitar in general so much that they refuse even to pick up their electrics. They even play Metallica on their classical guitars. I don't know. If this woman can inspire two little kids to practice so much at such a young age (just as Messi and Ronaldo have inspired them in football), I say more power to her!
Iron Feliks I'll tell you how. She starts playing with mysterious arpeggio, making, let's say, me, wondering what is this going to be, creating ominous atmosphere, full of ambiguity. Adding bass strings make it even better. Then she puts some flamenco chords, breaking the feeling with more cheerful spice and then I think " oh, great another flamenco player, but maybe this time it'll be different" . But it turns out it isn't. Mandatory slowdown, mandatory fast bass addition to slow part. And feeling, that you're hearing something, you've already heard. After this wonderful prelude, my hopes were really high. Too bad for me, I guess.
Nothing mysterious about it, it was published in 1892 by a Spanish pianist and played by Flamenco guitarists ever since, it is the perfection of her form that is amazing, it is kind of like American blues guitar, invented down south and responsible for Rock and Roll, lots of people can play it but few really capture the gritty essence of a Keith Richards and these days, very few new Blues guys bring anything new to the style, this Flamenco lady pumps life into a style that many butcher.
As past-guitarist, I love this piece, and I've listened to dozens of different musicians playing it... YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. Your interpretation is miles far away from the others. And the only one that gave me great emotions. My congratulations. The video is also very good.
Her artistry is evocatively nuanced with attention to the diminishing string sound, clarity and wonderful tempo. It would be a treat to know who crafted her guitar.
So this is where you miss the boat , like most most . John Williams doesn't approach it "delicately" , even at slow parts , bcs Spanish culture is about passion .
@@FUNKACHELI not everyone wants to go to spain every time. Fiery passion is good. Sometimes a little serenity fits the mood better. Written notes are ambiguous.
I saw Sharon Isbin perform this at the beautiful Touhill theater in St Louis in 2005. I was just a few yards from her. I was a vocal performance major at the time. Although I recognized the piece, I didn't know it is basically the most famous piece ever written for classical guitar. I was blown away by her entire performance. Since then I've said that if I had seen her perform when I was a kid, I would have been a guitar player instead. It's an amazing experience to be so close to someone during a live performance who is literally one of the best people on the planet at what they do.
I have seen many renditions of this all over TH-cam and in my opinion this is downright the best version out there, it encapsulates all of the delicate moments so perfectly that i'm not sure it can really be matched by any other version (and yes including John Williams as good as his is). To me, this is the definitive version.
At this level of expertise, it all becomes a matter of whose interpretation you prefer at any given time. Sharon, Ana, John, Andres...it doesn't matter to me. Each one's rendition is breathtaking to me. And I've been playing well over 50 years.
@@AlexandrosIoannides Vidovic is close in my opinion, when it comes to overall "Wow" factor. There are at least two videos of her on youtube playing leyenda. The newer one is the better one I feel. There seem to be some minute hick-ups in Isbin's version. No such thing in Vidovic's. However, the overall interpretation of Isbin, especially, how she explores the different dynamics, makes me, personally "feel" the music a little bit more than Vidovic's versions. Vidovic seems to combine John Williams' technical perfection (which, to me, completely lacks soul) with a good dose of emotional expression. Isbin is just a tiny bit less perfect, but I think (or rather feel), that she captures the emotion a little bit better. But it is down to personal taste, really. Speaking of personal taste, I like Virginia Luque's very aggressive, very Flamanco like version extremely well. th-cam.com/video/AZGwZeZGY2I/w-d-xo.html However, what is true for all three women in my view, is that they all play this piece considerably better than the much acclaimed John Williams. Did he play it technically perfectly and as fast as it can be played? Yes, but that's about it.

You play beautifully WITH SOUL AND PASSION of a woman - the gentleness you offer I have never heard applied in such a way to this piece - the contrast is Asturias past and present ... The sea, the mountains, the lakes, the small towns, the history, the suddenness of being in an unchanged place. The little things ...you have honored them.
Magical... Spectacularly intimate! There is a hidden magical realm in musics of all kinds that are completely glossed over with speed, technique, and virtuosity. It is a shame because these intimate treasures are the most emotional and empathetic music has to offer.
This is probably the best version I've found on TH-cam. I can never master that transition from the seat to the couch though, so tricky.. Maybe one day!

Dear Sharon, this is the most beautiful version of Asturias. You had had a sutil, sensual and passionate playing with the guitar that represent the spirit and escence of this music. Brava!
John William's version is wonderful. Full power, very steady, a tour de force. But this version is just as beautiful. Wonderful musicality, with a gentle rubato and great tone. Very dynamic performance.
Matt Sheeres John williams version is far more masterful than this and true to the original, it was completely flawless. This was still fantastic and top level though, but John Williams is something else.
I very much love how 90% of you critics don't play guitar and yet critique her technique and playing capabilities. This was a perfect rendition of the song Asturias and Sharon Isbin ranks among the top classical guitar players in existence. I am certain that not one single person in the comment section can play to anywhere near her level, considering getting to this level requires decades of study and practice.
This is a great piece and she played it beautifully And I've been playing guitar for at least 4 years and this a difficult piece but when you get the hang of it, the shit people say doesn't even matter and I don't think she would care but good on you 😎😎😎
Really, there is no "perfect" version of this piece, I've heard lots of other versions, And a lot of them are played beautifully. Artists add their own personal touch to make it theirs own. Bars 63 through 79, she plays very softly and slowly. Where as in other versions the artist will play it at a kind of a medium speed. Also she emphasizes on accenting the low E in bars 17 through 25. I love it when artists add their own personal touch and I love it even more when it works so beautifully with the song. Music played "perfectly" is just sounds, when we add our own touch it becomes music. As a guitar player I flock to songs like this and listen to the different versions to draw inspiration and help me discover different ways I can play.

since im a sound engeneer, and a classical guitarist i am almost certain the video and the audio were not recorded at the same time so i doubt that neither she or anyone else could play this good while lying on the sofa.
I was fortunate to see her in concert with my city's orchestra a few years ago. My mother and I had balcony seats, and this was during a time when my glasses were lost, so I couldn't make out Ms. Isbin's face very well. After a lovely performance mom and I left, and on the way out of the auditorium I saw a lady with a big guitar case walking up behind us, so I held the door open for her. When I was halfway to the car...
Heard she is performing in Ft Worth tonight and Dallas tomorrow night. Too bad I'm all the way in East Texas, would loved to go see her live. Already got goose bumps from this video, imagine seeing her perform this live and up close. Love the Spanish guitar, tried to learn it once myself some 35 years ago. Great video, thanks for posting.

The sea, the mountains, the lakes, the small towns, the history, the suddenness of being in an unchanged place. The little things ...you have honored them.
Просто чудо!
This is perfect and really wonderful!!
Maravilloso!
Muito bom!!
Magical... Spectacularly intimate! There is a hidden magical realm in musics of all kinds that are completely glossed over with speed, technique, and virtuosity. It is a shame because these intimate treasures are the most emotional and empathetic music has to offer.
Wow! To Sharon Isbin's performance, and to Isaac Albeniz's composition!
La guitarra se ha enamorado de ti. Gracias Sharon . Saludos desde Sevilla
WAOW!!! Brilliant!!! 💎💎💎👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰🥰
Saw her in Stony Brook Saturday...I think I'll go see her again next month in the Bronx...fabulous!!!
This is probably the best version I've found on TH-cam. I can never master that transition from the seat to the couch though, so tricky.. Maybe one day!
Decades of study my friend. I hear that some of the greats could go seat to couch to shower.
MARAVILHOSO

The music seems a beautiful dream.
ThAnks dear Sharon Isbin ! Top performance! God blessings today and ever !
This is a great piece and she played it beautifully And I've been playing guitar for at least 4 years and this a difficult piece but when you get the hang of it, the shit people say doesn't even matter and I don't think she would care but good on you 😎😎😎
obfuscation its a joke the piece was PERFECT or better !
sono daccordissimo cob te! A quelli a cui non piace: stronzi

SHARON ISBIN TKE BEST GUITAR PLATER IN THE WORLD....PLAYS ASTURIAS .....I did not even heard better played this MUSIC THANK YOU.......!!!!!!!
Such Levitical musical beauty and technicality. Shabbot Shalom.
mam u gave me goosebumps...
This is the first lady who palied guittar with right feelings...espcialy Asturias...you are the gratest lady....
It's great to see a classical musician defying the status quo, since she was playing while leaning back on a sofa during parts of the video.
since im a sound engeneer, and a classical guitarist i am almost certain the video and the audio were not recorded at the same time so i doubt that neither she or anyone else could play this good while lying on the sofa.
When I was halfway to the car...
inspiring….i watch it everyday….to improve me technique….
Those are a lot of days...
It's been 5 year mate
@@tubwaiyan6776 He is still practicing
@@mendax7125 Still can't play it!!
@@robertjoyce7887 Damn that's some dedication right there.
Saw it in D. Yes, she played it. Technically....WOW.
I couldn`t see her friends on the video. These must probably be the angels...
Magnificent!!
What a Beautiful talented Lady! Thank you for sharing, Sharon. Will watch for more of your Musical presentations.
She doesn't play the guitar: she caresses it.
Gracias, Sharon, por este tema tan español, de parte del ABUELO DE LAS MANDARINAS, CON BUENAFUENTE. Me enseñaron a tocar la guitarra, pero solo a acompañar y ya, a mis 83 años... JOAQUINMI101.
It is incredible that one person's fingers can merely walk to the Yellow Pages while another's can do this!
Funny!
I really like Sharons music, I was at a second hand store many, many years ago and what a treasure in finding her CD..
hermoso, magico de escuchar y ver!!! idola!!
Unspeakably beautiful. My new first choice for the desert island guitar mix. Fortunately, there's no need for such things, but Sharon has been added to my list of cultural treasures.
wow i love !!
She is by far the best. Like all truly great musicians, she is not performing so much as living the music.
Flamenco shakes the soul.
No tiene ninguna relación con el flamenco. Esta es una obra escrita originalmente para piano.
This NOT Flamenco! It is CLASSICAL !
Flamenco uses techniques like golpe that's not applied in classical guitar.
Замечательные техника и исполнение.Из всех исполнителей,этого произведения,именно ей отдаю предпочтение.Большое спасибо.Моя мечта-так сыграть и я добьюсь этого!
🎶 magnifique 🎶

OHH I was just here 7 years later thinking the EXACT SAME THING, and then I saw my own comment LMAOOO this is too funny
Simplemente maravilloso. Gracias Sharon
Brilliant.
I found this captivating. I find your playing dynamic, full of structure yet flowing and very expressive. Something very special indeed. The hundredsof hours you spent with this piece shows. You have given me inspiration to continue putting the hard work in on the tougher days. Thank you Sharon.
She played this at my school today. I got her autograph. I was the best thing ever.
Cám ơn bạn, bạn đã có đôi bàn tay tuyệt vời, một gương mặt xinh đẹp và ngón đàn với những giai điệu huyền ảo....nhắm mắt lại để đi vào âm nhạc du dương 👍❤️
I think youtube should improve its likes and comments section. Dislikes should be only allowed to comments with at least 10 words, and comments should be linked to likes and dislikes buttons so we could know who and dislikes the video and why.
Get a life.
You obviously know nothing about music. Troll !
