would've loved to see a more in-depth look at this process along with some comparisons to previous vhs, dvd, blu ray releases. still loving perri though.
The bluray of Jaws has a great feature in how Universal restored the movie, they explain how the scan the film, the process on how they restored the movie, color correction, create a new film print and also they talked about the audio, how they go from a mono/stereo source to a 7.1 surround; is one extra I always find myself revisiting a lot. I hope Collider can do more of this content, is really interesting how they restore films.
What a great watch! Would love to see more out-and-about/behind the scenes type material from Collider. Perri continues to be the best, and the production on this video was exceptional. great work all around!
Fascinating video. Firstly, I LOVE the restoration process. Secondly, it is Perri Nemiroff, a BIG proponent of streaming and not so much physical media, telling everyone to go buy this disk. Something must have worked - I went ahead and bought it!!!
All those things the gentleman was talking about is why film preservation is so important! Especially for older films on more fragile material, but even digital media (though it doesn't physically degrade) can still be lost forever if all copies of the files were somehow deleted/destroyed.
I liked and loved how they did a wonderful job putting some of the Warner Bros. classic Movies in 4K ULTRA HD video picture and audio sound quality for the Warner Bros. Movies in the 4K ULTR HD Blu-Ray and 4K ULTRA HD Digital Copy Download Format Streamable Editions.
Anyone notice that either Collider or Warner were trying to make it look like the sepia to Technicolor shot of Oz wasn't done with a sepia-painted house set and a sepia-painted body double? Take a look at the blue coloring they applied at 3:22 and 3:49!
:47 I'm curious if anyone has ever approached them to restore their own home movies. I'd be curious how they would handle a conversion from a video camera tape (vhs/Hi8) because a lot of the services and converter devices seem to be as cheap and inferior to the what was already admittedly low quality in the first place. There are so many vhs sourced videos I see that are really bad (like pixelated internet video in the 90s bad) and I know they don't have to look THAT bad.
Very cool indeed... but... it just feels a bit wrong because it seems like WB is trying to rewrite history here. They did not make The Wizard of Oz, MGM did. WB just acquired the movie. So it feels a bit off. But still, very cool tour!!
Bitter sweet seeing this. I'm happy films are being restored and saved forever but I lost my job due to the digital age. I was replaced by a computer once the company I worked for digitized all their commercials.
Diminishing returns. I’ve seen people argue 35mm film can approach 6K... but based on a lot of 4K scans I’ve seen, I don’t think going any higher is going to add any useful information.
That's awesome. Learned alot thanks for this Perri! That was really interesting! She was out with that original superman 😂. Anyone else want one of those wizard of oz cupcakes?lol
I want to see the dukes of Hazzard tv series fully restored for blue ray 4K If I was in charge of WB That would me my first objective Please restore this classic tv show!!!!
But the nerve-killing part of the job: frame-by-frame cleaning up cracks and dirts and damages manually, for months and months. Simple math: 25 frames per sec, multiplied by 1,5-2-3 hours, thats a hell lot of frames to inspect 1-by-1.
I don‘t Unterstand... i thought there are Some More Film Roles from all the different cameras. In this Video, there are the complete cutted and finished Films on that role... how? The Camera roles will be scanned Bedfore the digital Special effects join and the Cutter Start his work. I do Not Unverstand how and why the Film get a native filmrole after the Movie was cutted on a digital Computer. I dont know how to say and how do describe it
It all depends on how well a film's assets were preserved. Take Toy Story, for instance. There was only so much they could do to make that film better. Toy Story 2 on the other hand had much better data preservation. A lot of films have 2K digital intermediate files for visual effects (to save on budget expenses and time) but I read that the first two Harry Potter films were the rare exception and did them at 4K quality.
I heard somewhere that WB has the biggest movie library of any studio in the world as they now own almost all of MGM's old classics along with their own movies over the years....
How Tawara Touta messes and destroys 20th Century Fox studio! That good 20th Century Fox has film assets around the planet all of the original cut negatives are barcoded and also cataloged so anyone piece of film can be located. So I'm holding the original 1977 negative of Star Wars and I'm out
It's over already?! Agh!! That was such a great behind the scenes in the film industry. I would love to see more stuff like this!
Schnepp would have geeked out over the original print of Superman the movie! RIP Schnepp miss you every day man!
Don't make me cry.......oh well too late Love ya Johnny
That was my first thought too!

@@ravenbluesid same with dracula (1931) and the james bond films. licence to restore
Now this is what I want to see from Collider

stemw616 She is so smart and informed about the entertainment industry. I always enjoy hearing her analyses.
Great video! It’s amazing what they do with the restoration process. I can’t wait to see this latest transfer of The Wizard of Oz in all of its glory.
Fascinating video. Firstly, I LOVE the restoration process. Secondly, it is Perri Nemiroff, a BIG proponent of streaming and not so much physical media, telling everyone to go buy this disk. Something must have worked - I went ahead and bought it!!!
Restoring a Looney Tunes short (from 0:56 to 1:15) is a good sign for more unreleased Looney Tunes shorts in HD
I used to work in a archive. Much smaller, but still awesome.
Holding film history on the tip of your fingers...
All those things the gentleman was talking about is why film preservation is so important! Especially for older films on more fragile material, but even digital media (though it doesn't physically degrade) can still be lost forever if all copies of the files were somehow deleted/destroyed.
Loved this.... thanks to everyone who works hard on these restorations and remastering.....
2:57 They have episodes of Scooby Doo Where Are You? In there😍😁
Yes
2:30 I see Perri needed a shot of those final destination reels in the video😉
Thanks for doing this Perri! That was fascinating!
This is awesome!!!!!! If it's at all possible, I'd love to see more stuff like this on collider!!!
Cool, thanks for sharing!
Love love love this format of a show!! Great job everyone. Please more! Reminds me of the old very underrated BTS Vids of collider!
WOW what a dream! It would be so cool to check out that vault! Thanks for the video!
He is talking about history here.
OOO wish there was more shown how they do it, like go really deep. So interesting.
I totally agree!
2:44 I hate to be there when someone turn off the oxygen.
More stuff like this please!
loved the shoes!!!
This is where Popeye cartoons original negatives where actually restored by WB.
Anyone notice that either Collider or Warner were trying to make it look like the sepia to Technicolor shot of Oz wasn't done with a sepia-painted house set and a sepia-painted body double? Take a look at the blue coloring they applied at 3:22 and 3:49!
holy shi this needed to be way longer WB does not open their doors to the vault very easy
Amazing
I really hope discs media does not disappeared. I just like to own my hard copy and not rely on the internet or the content providers.
Lot of remasters of old films of all time, like ‘The Wizard of Oz (1939)’ and ‘Wings (1927)’!
Grab the SnyderCut from the WB Vault and RUN! Lol..
Yes!!
I read somewhere back in 2009 that the movie is 8K ready.
I saw the WB doors and expected to hear "So you gotta movie for me?" 🤣🤣
Pitch meetings eh ????
Hail Ryan George
Loved it
I was just thinking how the restoration process is done with old films!

great video perri, nice editing too
Awesome video Perri! More behind the scenes vids like this please 🧐😊
Very cool indeed... but... it just feels a bit wrong because it seems like WB is trying to rewrite history here. They did not make The Wizard of Oz, MGM did. WB just acquired the movie. So it feels a bit off. But still, very cool tour!!
Nevertheless, that sepia-toned lion will still roar proudly.
Great video Perri!
Awesome video! More stuff like this please
This was an awesome segment. Great job Perri and crew 💪
"The film is more important than us."
Awesome video, I probably would end up spending a year in that place!
Bitter sweet seeing this. I'm happy films are being restored and saved forever but I lost my job due to the digital age. I was replaced by a computer once the company I worked for digitized all their commercials.
You are not alone
Automation is threatening the job of millions across the planet
@@yhggggvbb I was one of the early ones (1990s) but unfortunately like you said not nearly the last.
This was great
10k?!?!?!
does 35mm film grain even go that fine?
Diminishing returns. I’ve seen people argue 35mm film can approach 6K... but based on a lot of 4K scans I’ve seen, I don’t think going any higher is going to add any useful information.
I don’t know how i read the title: Perri visits Warner Bros adult films. I clicked.
That's awesome. Learned alot thanks for this Perri! That was really interesting! She was out with that original superman 😂. Anyone else want one of those wizard of oz cupcakes?lol
Really cool to watch this. Thank you, guys.
Sneak out the Snider cut.
perri for dorthy in a wizard of oz remake!
Nice use of the Wrench and Numbers theme in the opening.
I want to see the dukes of Hazzard tv series fully restored for blue ray 4K If I was in charge of WB That would me my first objective Please restore this classic tv show!!!!
PERRI!!!!!!!!!!!......LOVE YA
Twist: Someone else is holding that detached arm holding the Collider mic.
More of this!!

I really wanted to see a side by side of the new restoration and original negative! Ughhh
Start taking notes, Disney!
Perri!
Totally jealous over holding the original negative of Superman: The Movie .
This just proves how 4k movie releases are so worth it, you wont get a better image probably ever.
I love WB. Grew up with a lot more of WB than Disney. Loved Disney though and some Nickelodeon lol

That's not surprising. They're one of the oldest survivng studios.
Isn't it a MGM production?
Yes and Turner Entertainment, WB's sister company now owns this film, as part of pre-May 20 1986 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer library.
I by chance have Wizard of Oz dvd copy with some extras in collection and hope to get any new copies with more extras by chance later.
It says upswept hare…
I don't want Collider as much as I used to, but I LOVED this
2:40 wow and yesterday the fire was so close the Warner Bros lot
These are the kinds of videos you should continue to make.
Was the Snyder Cut there?

Wish Universal took as much care with their vault.
They don't?? How do you know they don't?
This is like the Area 51 of movies.
Did you find the Snyder Cut?
Steal the Snyder cut of justice league
I just stopped by to say I can't stand Perri
