That's the thing about the so called "heroes" in GS, they go in the guilds, take up arms and climb the ranks, but to them, it's all about the Fame and Fortune. GS only joined it for the benefits that it can grant him in killing goblins. He focuses on goblins only because he knows that they're a constant threat that the "big heroes" don't care about because the quests aren't rewarding enough and goblins are weak creatures. But they fail to see the truth of it, they chase dragons and demons, meanwhile cities and villages are being pillaged by goblins, causin famines and destruction. GS is a true hero, the big names are just glorified mercenaries. GS does what he does because he believes if he won't do it, nobody else will and that it's a duty. Big timers, they do it for the reknown and gold.
Read between the lines of the first novel sometime and you'll also see that the higher-ranked adventurers don't take goblin slaying quests not only because of the lack of renown and gold...but because they do know. They know the terror and unpredictability of goblins, the danger presented when they need to fight them, and to use it in the terms of their world, just how many chances they'll have to encounter a 'bad roll of the dice' not from overwhelming might on the part of their foe, but simply because their foe is legion. Couple this with the pittance adventurers get for slaying goblins and there we have ample reason why so few adventurers want to take up such quests. And then we have the Slayer.
@@TustlePlays So you're saying that some do know the truth but are too afraid of the unpredictable nature of Goblins to go after them? I'd say that's even worse because they know it but willingly turn away at a serious problem out of fear, at least the others are ignorant of that fact. Ignorance can be forgiven, willful ignorance is ground to be judged. Thankfully, there are people willing to risk themselves and get dirty to do the right thing.
@@combinecommando001 That is exactly what's implied, yes. They do know, but they are afraid, even when their town (via the farm) is threatened at the conclusion of S1 and the first novel. And...in my opinion I think Spearman's just a bit doltish judging by later volumes when he's getting chummier with the Slayer and trying to encourage him to buy better equipment. Keep in mind Goblin Slayer buys cheap stuff on purpose in case the worst happens and he does get taken down.
@@combinecommando001well Adventurer guilds in fantasy is just a fancy name for mercenaries. They are not police or heroes. They fight for fame and fortune... Hunting goblins is high risk, low reward job... But otherwise you have it right.

HEA: Oh good, when can you leave to fight him? GS: *Lifts demon king’s head from under the table* “Apologies, I was unclear in the timeframe. I did it between when LP explained and when I responded. I’m VERY efficient.”

He’s like an excellent plumber or roofer. Doing the work that nobody wants to do but needs to be done, and dedicated to the point of learning more about his craft then people think there is to it in all.
Normally, this exposition would be the major turning point in the story that paths the main character to complete the plot of the series. Here, it's merely a showing of how other work needs to be done no matter what's happening to the world.
It's long answer on the various ways you would slay Goblins, such as how you would handle Goblins that are scouting near a river in the winter when you only have daggers, or how you would handle a Champion in the rain in a mountain range
I just realized that he absolutely doesn't care how much they pay him for the job, he basically throws an empty invoice at them as says "write whatever you want to pay me here"
Goblin slayer has a point here Already goblins are overlooked as a threat with only guild girl and villagers knowing how much destruction they cause Since the overwhelming majority of adventurers are in that profession for money and fame they don't bother killing low level enemies like goblins You can see this mentality in the finale when no one is willing to help without a hearty reward offered by the guild
Can't really blame them though, next to no one is going to risk their lives for no honour, no fame, no wealth, especial in the mercenary field where its expected you pay for a job. Going after more profitable enemies is still harder then goblins after all but it pays well and someone still has to do it.
@@L0rd0fLight1 thats the problem in this world, goblin slaying does not typically pay well. Since the typical customer is a poor farmer/ peasant the coin they offer is usually enough to get a sandwich. There was one scene where a farmer gave everything he had as a reward and guild girl knew that not even new adventurers would go for it. As for their difficulty, yes a giant snake that can turn you to stone is more dangerous but how many noobs have died to goblins vs older adventurers to dragons and the like.
Mr Miner yeah but goblin killing is more steady and stable not to mention cheaper to fund because goblin slayer doesn't need some fancy equipment forged by the gods and blessed by the followers of said god, all he needs is basic starter gear and he's ready to rip and tear
why is that Elf so insistent on making Goblin Slayer (emphasis on GOBLIN) fight the Demon Lord? Why not ask Heavy Knight or Spearman and the Witch to do it? @@wilsonjonah for a 2000 year old elf she is incredibly naive and, just like her fellow adventurers, she is more focused on the big picture in concerns to big "threats" like a Demon Lord rather than goblins. Goblin slayer does have a major point with how big of a threat the goblins actually are and everyone in the comments seems to forget about the fact that there aren’t just the small scrawny ones. There are the jobs which in all honesty aren’t too much of a problem. The shamans which while we haven’t seen how dangerous they are they probably pack plenty of fire power seeing as how GS aims for them before they can cast a spell. Then you have the fricking lords and champions. The lords are extremely great strategists which could threaten armies and the champions have shown to be at least some trouble for the higher ranked adventurers.
When I first see the elf girl I thought that she was like calm and with good demeanor , but well she is officialy a tsundere, at least she is gorgeous..
one of the reasons Dwarf Shaman recruits her is that she gets into a bar fight with some random beastgirl the day he was supposed to meet Dragonboy and he accepts her because he was against teaming up with a fancypants elf
It might seem funny but because of GS only taking Goblin missions he ensured that Chosen Hero and her village lived, pretty much indirectly saving the whole world in the process.
the poster boy for violent trauma i swear. Guy is so nice hes trained religiously so noone ever goes through what he did, hes literally fantasy batman, taking on street level monsters and leaving the heavy hitters to the ambitious heroes.
If any of you haven’t watched Goblin Slayer you really should, a lot of people finished at just the first episode because of ‘that’ scene but I promise its not about that. Actually, the first episode is only about that the rest is honestly the best anime i’ve seen.
the first episode is definitely there to establish the brutality of the goblins and why GS is necessary to the plot. and while scenes like that are not prominent in the episodes that follow, the indicators that things like that are still constantly happening even with GS effort are in most episodes.
"Demons will destroy the world." "Lady, I am literally a pest-control man. My partner knows a healing spell, do you want her to perform a heart transplant too?"
Its funny how totally logical he is about this and its like nobody else can figure it out. Goblins are a lower level threat, this is true. But they cause untold amounts of death and suffering through sheer numbers and nobody but inexperienced and weak adventurers who end up usually dying go after them. Goblinslayer is right to focus on killing hordes of goblins on a regular basis and its his presence alone that keeps the death rate as low as it is. If you want to talk about killing demon armies there are probably 2 dozen adventurers in this building alone that would jump at the chance to join up.
bruh if I was the leader of the humans i would have ordered the military to do regular sweeps for goblin nests everywhere in the country and destroy any that are found. goblins in this world should be purged to the last one. no survivors.
It's a problem that the storyline acknowledges. Most people who could do that are dismissive of goblins being a threat. "It's only goblins." But to be a little fair, the Demon Lord is a serious concern that they are preparing for. In any other year, the militia might take goblins more seriously.
I like to think of of what Tony said in spiderman homecoming whenever i see this scene. "Keep your feet on the ground "friendly neighborhood" kinda guy. Sure the world needs heroes to save the world. But what about the smaller threats they still cause harm. You had top tier adventurers being thankful to goblin slayer for protecting their hometown
Orcbolg is one special kind of hero. He isnt into the save the world from big evil stuff, he is more concerned about the little things, those things, which actual "heroes" just see as dirty work. They just care for their praise, but not about the safety of their own kin. Orcbolg is in that regard special, because he just do this dirty work to safe his people from immediate threats and also growing ones, normally unnoticed
A true anti-hero in every single way possible. Still, an incredible team is only as good as the wild card that is the antiheroes, am I right here, man?
He's different from other cliche hero's. He's calm and do tactics plans for attacks and ambush even if he hates goblins. He's not like an annoying type of hero as like "i kill them all" in full anger. Later in the manga he become's more "human" thx to his new crew :)
for me Goblin Slayer is a bit more realistic take on traumatic character. When most traumatic characters are dark and brooding, he has more of OCD, neurotic and schizophremic characteristics. His mind constantly haunts him from his village massacre. So his mind search for form of escape. He does it by kill goblins, to make believe things would have been different that day his village was destroyed. The problem is that he is not aware that there is this neurotic pattern that makes him repeat the same cycle over and over.
@Loc K He’s slowly getting better. His new crew is helping him, I think. The worst thing those with PTSD can do is cut everyone out of their lives. The more GS opens up, the more he heals. The fight for Cow Girl’s farm showed that. If it was the GS from before he met Priestess and the others, he might’ve actually knocked Cow Girl out and had her uncle run with her while he fought the horde alone.
I love how he just gets up at the end to do it alone. Guy has literally been exterminating goblins for half his life on his own so it's perfectly reasonable in character for him.
He's right though. Demon lords, end of the world, those sorts of things are universal constants, with armies and great heroes pledged to such lofty causes, but none of it means all that much if all the people who grow your food are dead because of some not very impressive but VERY pervasive dangers.
0:49 I just love this part. They're talking about a demon horde poised to destroy the world and GS is just like, "Don't give AF." Then they mention goblins and he's like, "I'm in."
The villages are where all the food and soldiers come from and city dwelling nobles leave them to rot. We need a man of the people like comrade Goblin Slayer.
His point is. Well since the demons will be everyones main focuses nobody is going to care about the goblins. Thats when the goblins become the same threat level as the demons.
Goblin Slayer is by definition a min/maxer. He is all about doing one thing and doing it well. He does everything within his power to make sure that he can do what he wants to do well.
@Yuri Rusher While he was hiding inside of the house, he witness his sister being raped, used as a plaything and then murder by goblins. After the goblins left his burning village, he dedicate his life to ensure that no other people have to do deal with this tragically again.

Goblin Slayer : OOOH BOY 3 A.M
Im dead 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like it would cut to goblin slayer as he burns down a nest. Then he looks down to his watch and say "oh it's 3 am."
It's never to early to kill Goblins
"...is it 3:30am already? I've been slaying since noon. Time flies."
@@Montesama314 Time is goblins. Dead goblins.
That's why they need the encouragement of 'one gold per goblin head' to take up arms then.
They do get better around the time the training facility's getting built. And...in my opinion I think Spearman's just a bit doltish judging by later volumes when he's getting chummier with the Slayer and trying to encourage him to buy better equipment. Keep in mind Goblin Slayer buys cheap stuff on purpose in case the worst happens and he does get taken down.
@@combinecommando001 Goblin Slayer takes the "Guild of Adventurers" trope and grounds it in reality.
@@combinecommando001well Adventurer guilds in fantasy is just a fancy name for mercenaries.
They are not police or heroes. They fight for fame and fortune...
Hunting goblins is high risk, low reward job...
But otherwise you have it right.

Goblin Slayer: Okay, that's *actually* my field.
There's an exam-
GS: I don't care.
It's an exam about goblins.
GS: When is it? What time? Is it an essay or multiple choice?
I could actually see him writing a 100-page essay on goblins.
It's long answer on the various ways you would slay Goblins, such as how you would handle Goblins that are scouting near a river in the winter when you only have daggers, or how you would handle a Champion in the rain in a mountain range

Cultured person right here
I just realized that he absolutely doesn't care how much they pay him for the job, he basically throws an empty invoice at them as says "write whatever you want to pay me here"
Goblin slayer has a point here
Already goblins are overlooked as a threat with only guild girl and villagers knowing how much destruction they cause
Since the overwhelming majority of adventurers are in that profession for money and fame they don't bother killing low level enemies like goblins
You can see this mentality in the finale when no one is willing to help without a hearty reward offered by the guild

Where is the manga compared to light novel currently?
What an absolute badass. He was actually going to go clear them out on his own. If that’s not determination, I don’t know what is.
Goblin Slayer literally just Ctrl+F's through every conversation to look for the keyword "goblin".
Easiest negotiation ever:
Elf Archer: "The Demon King is going to raise hell and try to conquer the world"
GS: "I do not care, I have goblin to slay before he manages to do so"
Dwarf: "Oh, did we mention he also leads hordes of countless goblins?"
GS: "See if you want to pay me for that, fine otherwise; I am now going to slay gobliiiins" *rushes out like the Flash*
Basically every time you use the word "goblin" without a negation, you gain a +20 in all the rolls to persuade GS to do something.
"Is he planning to go alone?!"
NO HE IS GOING TO GO CALL UP DOOM GUY AND KRATOS TO JOIN HIM.
There are demons about to destroy the world and we need your help!

She's gorgeous BECAUSE she's a tsundere.... obviously...

It might seem funny but because of GS only taking Goblin missions he ensured that Chosen Hero and her village lived, pretty much indirectly saving the whole world in the process.
"I'm sorry, were demon lords goblins now? Sorry, I don't know what to tell ya."
the poster boy for violent trauma i swear. Guy is so nice hes trained religiously so noone ever goes through what he did, hes literally fantasy batman, taking on street level monsters and leaving the heavy hitters to the ambitious heroes.

"A good goblin is a dead goblin now let's make these goblins good!"

Meanwhile, in the anime multiverse.
Satou Kazuma: "I wonder if there is a main character that never had to fight a demon lord."
"Demons will destroy the world."
"Lady, I am literally a pest-control man.
I want a goblin slayer game with doom gameplay mechanics and dragon engine graphics
goose goose I think they could do a good job
"The World will be destroyed!"
"But are they Goblins though."
bruh if I was the leader of the humans i would have ordered the military to do regular sweeps for goblin nests everywhere in the country and destroy any that are found. goblins in this world should be purged to the last one. no survivors.
It's a problem that the storyline acknowledges. Most people who could do that are dismissive of goblins being a threat. "It's only goblins."
But to be a little fair, the Demon Lord is a serious concern that they are preparing for.
@@Inujasa88 The way he acts and approaches things makes him basically Batman. (Other than no kill rule).
He's not an anti hero in the slightest. He's just an adventurer.
for me Goblin Slayer is a bit more realistic take on traumatic character.
There is just something about his relentless, uncompromising hunt for goblings that is so inspiring.
Elf: Demons
GS: Have a nice day
Lizard: She meant goblins
GS: Where? How many? Can we leave immediately?
Oh boy, if the demon lord summons goblins, he's gonna check under his bed every night
Goblin Slayer is so badass! He might not be someone special but to me he is a REAL Hero!
