    I’ve had the same experience with the white interior. My previous teslas were stainproof and easy to clean with plain water. My new 2021 white seats are stain magnets… color transfer from jeans, stains from boxes, soda spills. IMO it’s a completely different product and most certainly a cost cutting measure

  • @andyzegerman
    @andyzegerman ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I have the same experience. In my 2017 MX I had no issues and it was never an issue to clean those. One of my kids even had an open permanent marker in the back pocket and it completely vanished over multiple weeks.
    Now with my MX Plaid I have noticed some tougher stains too that will not come off. Good to know though that "Leather Girl" is here in Atlanta.
    Another thing I wanted to suggest to Brittany. You can get an EV and just meet with some clients at a close by charging location if you run low. By the time you work your magic, your EV could be charged again.

    I ❤ your sons honesty! Some kids would probably think they're in trouble, being reprimanded, but he didn't seem to be as such at all. An awesome dude, he is!
    Your guest in this video mentioned synthetic material. I remember the seats being vegan and don't recall ever hearing of them being plastic. Are/Were they?

  • @brucedaar

    It is the perforated/ventilated seats! I have a Tesla Model Y with non perforated white seats with no problem maintaining. However, I have a Lexus NX with black perforated seats and they are a pain to maintain because whatever is spilled or crumbs on them gets in the perforations. It is much easier to keep clean non ventilated non perforated seats!!!

    My M3 had black seats. After seeing the video you did with the ultrawhite seats, I decided to order them for my MY. It seems like I'm always wiping up stains. My MY is not even a year old and the seats make it look older. Thanks for the tips on the wheels and the seats.

    would be nice if they had a brown color option . there are people that make aftermarket covers. Also they could use a thigh extension for people over 5'8"

    I personally could never have light color seats as I am somewhat clumsy and know within the first week or so they will be stained. I ordered a new car ,, should come in a few weeks and I insisted on black / dark seats because of it. More power to the folks that can do it, I love the look, I just cant do it myself.

    And don't be too mad at your kiddos. I'm pretty sure they knew that by making a mess, they were helping you create content for the TH-cam channel. Actually very mature and thoughtful of them if you think about it ;)

    My 2021 Model Y front driver seat has a “reddish cast” on the seat back only (not the seat bottom) Tesla actually replaced the back cover once under a goodwill replacement. Unfortunately the new cover is doing the same thing. I almost exclusively wear moisture wicking golf shirts (not red) and a grey fleece jacket in the winter. I only use warm water and some clear and free dish detergent to clean every once in awhile. Not sure why the seat back is showing this discoloration.

  • @Yanquetino
    @Yanquetino ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Sigh… a different quality material? Another cost-cutting decision, if you ask me. I know that Tesla's white seats have been very popular, as they really "pop," but… as you know we just stuck with the standard black seats in our Model 3. I like even better the Gray 2-Tone in the Ioniq 5 and Light Space Gray in the Mach-E. Leather Girl did a fantastic job with that tear in the perforated seat! No more cleats in the car, boys!

    Incredible craftsmanship! The bigger issue is, tears are going to happen over and over in the life of a Tesla. I'm at 19k miles on my 22 M S and my front passenger seat just developed a tear. The driver's seat tore about 2,000 miles ago. $600 for Tesla mobile service replaced the seat cover in Dallas. But, now that the passenger seat had the same issue, and is sat in less than 10% of the time and the car is driven and the car lives in garages, I've got say this is a defect of materials. I can't see spending $1,200 to replace seat covers every 2 years. If anyone knows more about this problem, I'm all ears.

    Hey Kim, I use a microfiber towel with hot water to clean all stains off of my ultra white seats. Using alcohol based products dries out the vegan leather, causing it to crack at an accelerated rate.

    • @ItsKimJava
      @ItsKimJava  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      interesting, alcohol is a Tesla recommendation but yes doesn't hurt to use lower % and dilute.

    • @tesla-spectre
      @tesla-spectre ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yeah alcohol is for me a real no go on polyester (what Tesla funnily calls vegan leather). interesting that the professional uses such high level alcohol solution. so I would assume I am wrong 😎

    • @reasonitout9087
      @reasonitout9087 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You and I are apparently the only ones who use the "Less is more" approach. I use same as you. Use white soft cloth and use one swipe per section of cloth. Verrrry light touch, no pressure and check cloth for dirt each swipe . No alcohol or other chemicals, no abrasives, no magic eraser (best way to ruin any surface!)

    • @reasonitout9087

      Apparently only 1% know how to clean upholstery... any type. Schools no longer teach practical stuff. Only politically motivated virtue signalling and bs. The "upholstery , fabric, of our lives." :-) is getting ruined.

      Using alcohol for tougher stains is fine and is tesla recommended. It's just good to use something quality like 303 Protectant right after to put moisture back into it and give another barrier to staining.

    My experience with the white seats was interesting. I got my first Tesla model x in white, and me and my family all wear jeans daily. While few don't use the Tesla a lot, 3000 miles in, and I only use an all interior cleaner from chemical guys to wipe down some bluish tint on the sides of the seats, it is in perfect condition. Some might argue that having to wipe down ur seats every now and then a bit more than average is a hassle but it really isn't. Your just cleaning your care more and making it feel cleaner anyways. Whats interesting is that I also have a jeep with tan leather seats that turned so disgustingly blue shortly after I bought it and it's there forever!

    I had my M3 for a year and the seats looks like they have been use for more than 4 years and it has ceramic coating, I'm very disappointed at the quality and how hard it is to clean. I thought it was me because I saw videos about the white seat and how easy they get cleaned. But now I see it is not just me. Thanks for the recomendation I'm going to purchase the stuff to try and clean the seat.

    This is very common with perforated leather seats,its the perforation. My best from Gucci did the same thing over time. The earlier model white seats were not perforated and were solid using stain resistant and Tesla was focused on that and now they using luxury leather that german and italian cars use and it unfortunately comes with this drawback. Sad reality. I own black seats now for this purpose.

I have black in my Model Y and some coffee was spilled on it, that I didn't see and by the 3rd day it was on there...I did have to get some 409 and scrub it...but it came out. I don't know how dirty the seats are since they are black...but I like it that way !! Always black interior for me.

    If the change between your second and third white seat Tesla is that the company brought seat manufacturing under their roof, would it not affect the ease of cleaning/quality of all the leather colors - not just white? It might not be a noticeable change on black interiors, but what about cream?

    A lot of people would be horrified at my preference, but I still stand by sheepskin car seat covers. They're warm in winter and much cooler in summer and you certainly don't sweat all over the place. Additionally, when it's time for a wash, into the washing machine they go, before being left out on the washing line to dry naturally so that you don't get any shrinkage.
    Lamb, mutton and wool are natural products that have nowhere near the same emissions footprint that of fossil fuels used as feedstocks for vinyl and polyester car seat fabrics; from extraction well to end use, the supply chain is extremely long and emissions heavy.
    Because sheep are going to be farmed anyway, it's important to use the whole animal, not just the most desirable parts; how the animals are reared and cared for goes a long way.
    In many countries sheep are free range year round and, depending on where in the world they are reared, naturally fed.
    There are tremendous misconceptions about EV's, so-called vegan leather and a myriad of so-called 'green' this, that, and the other, as being automatically better. They're not; just usually less harmful.

      Sunscreen causes discoloration and damage to most plastic interior parts such as steering wheels, arm rests, door sills and center consoles in many different vehicles.

    The perforations are too numerous and too close together. This might work ok with real leather, but not cheap vinyl, excuse me, “pleather,” which falls apart.

    1:22 You can't blame males for these stains. This is a usual reaction of poorer and poorer made leather belts in the trousers and the seats. The solvents or softeners of both hydrocarbon products are reacting with each other. The surface of the leather belt becomes soft (by heat and chemical reaction) and leaves marks in the location of the hips and belly on bright seats and safety belts.
    The reasons are numerous. Nothing you can do. 🤔
    I don't know if elastic fabric belts in the trousers are a satisfying solution. 🤷‍♂️

    • @jacobkennedy8336
      @jacobkennedy8336 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vegan just refers to the material being animal free. Pleather or fake leather just doesnt sound very luxurious so the marketing gurus came up with "vegan leather."
