Don't give it a name.. The choice of rock, aquasoil and lighting will kill it in no time.. I give it 2 months max.. Trust me, I own more than 50 bettas..
Shout out to Filipe Oliveira, who is currently going through some tough times battling a nasty disease! Amazing aquascaper and very cool guy. The betta is gorgeous!!
Absolutely!!! Filipe Oliveira is a great Man who is fighting Cancer and I am praying that he will have a full recovery and get back to the beautiful world of Aquascaping!!!💚💙
The sense of scale you achieved with this scape is impressive. When you changed the camera shot to you beings at next to it, you realize how tiny the tank is!
The scape is very beautiful. But I would leave some airholes on the top so oxygen could get in, for the betta to breathe. Especially with co2 in the water. I love that you got a betta too, it's a beauty
You should add an anubias plant or something with big leaves to give your betta "levels" in the water to rest at. I know they love to just perch on plants. Mine loves hanging out near the top in a clear glass cup that I use to hold a small peace lily so you can try that too :) Beautiful scape!
Watching this video immediately having seen your dark start video is funny... It seems *someone* was a bit impatient to set up this tank lol. As someone getting into fishkeeping and aquascaping, your little info cards about the plants you're using are an absolute godsend! Thank you for taking the time and effort to include them, and describing their particular growth styles :)
thats so beautiful! I a m '43 year old and since my 6 years of age I always had an aquarium, but I never managed the beautiful carpets, exept of one time, and that was when I had a halogen table lamp. Now i have a small aquarium with guppy endler, but I am planning a bigger tank for them. i want to do it better than usual. Oh my god and that sea horse in the shop that s so beautiful!!!😮❤
Good luck with maintaining the riccia. Grows super fast and trimmings latch on to everything else in the tank, soon it'll turn into a riccia scape if you dont constantly maintain it
I have been driving past that fish shop so many times now. Every time I'm like: "ye, I need to visit that place sometime". After watching your video I'm definitely going to visit that place! And also a very nice scape man, I really love it.
Hello! It's funny, because last year, on the same date, I discovered your TH-cam channel and that of Green Aqua. I learned a lot thanks to you and in December 2021 I bought my first aquarium for a betta. A few months later, I continued in this new passion. Now I have 5 betta tanks. Three deaths in less than a year, so I understand your feelings very well. I have a few "tips". I always use iron woods, but I was advised to wash the wood well, because you can find dragonfly larvae more often than other types of wood. You did well to close the joints between the cover and the aquarium, because indeed, they always jump parallel between these joints. It's stupid sometimes a betta. 😅 For the hole in the lid, I place a nice little decorative rock on it and avoid feeding them there. So, if I forget to replace the rock, there is less risk that they will want to jump through the hole in my absence. I don't have this variety of betta so I'm not particularly familiar with it, but I would avoid the addition of Amano shrimp. I have them in 3 of my aquariums, but these bettas are more "peaceful" than my others, as they have very long sails and are a little slower. With my female Halfmoon and my 2 Crowntails, the Amanos do not survive. For the temperature, I'm at 25, because of the shrimp, but also the plants. Finally, if you notice that your betta spends its time skirting the side windows, I strongly recommend that you add plants that grow in height. This damages the aesthetics, but it will stop going back and forth and this reduces stress and therefore the risk of disease or complications. Otherwise, they also really like hiding places (under the branches among others). The addition of catappa, or oak leaves calms them and is beneficial to their health. Vary the food and be careful, because I have 1 betta who died of constipation. Finally, I confirm that the iron wood floats for a very long time when it is not glued. I lost 1.5 months the first time waiting for it to be completely soaked in water and I had to start aquascaping all over again. I wish you much happiness and long life to this betta. He is magnificent. Sincere greetings from Quebec and forgive my French accent.💁🏻♀️🇨🇦/🇫🇷
I named my Copper Alien Ripley (after the badass in the Alien movie franchise). He is definitely the best betta I've had. And also the most laid back I've had. He has Amano and Neocaridina shrimp in his tank and there is no visible hunting going on. There is a gap in the corner of my tank by the heater and mine has been good about not jumping. If you are quite worried about him jumping, increasing the floating plant ceiling to cover the whole perimeter is a good alternative. Just make a corral for the center so the light can get in to the plants below. I second the insect larvae pellets suggestion AND the fasting suggestion. I use Fluval Betta bites which is actually a crumble and very easy for mine to swallow. You can also train yours to station for food, makes clean up much easier.
I also have a blue alien type! I love bettas, and aliens especially are just gorgeous. Thanks for providing such a great environment for your little guy, it’s awesome. I definitely think he deserves a name! Mine is called Hadrian.
Very beautiful. I think it could be a beta smaragdina / beta splendens cross bred. Take care of Low light, high temperature and lot of tannins to keep your Beta healthy.
I always add dead coral to filter when using aquatic plant soil because most of these soils decrease the PH and bettas like higher PH levels so that's a good tip. Another is food, feed high protein insect lava food as this is the closest to what they eat in the wild. Fast them at least once a day once a week and you should avoid any bloat or swim bladder issues. Very good idea to get a plakat Betta, they are closer to the wild type and do better in aquariums with more higher flow. All in all a Beautiful aqua scape for a gorgeous betta. Good work mate!!!
I had a plexiglass type lid on my Betta tank that I even cut around protruding hardscape and plants. I didnt think the gaps were going to be an issue, but one day Alpha (the Betta) just wasn't there any more 🙁 clear plastic also scratches easily and just wasn't as nice as an open top for enjoying the connection of the emersed plants with the Scape under water. I was thinking about a grid of fishing wire or something but that's a bit complex to make a customised frame to sew it into...
One option is a polymer sheet from a hardware store / hobby market. It's possible to cut it with scissors or a utility knife, it's cheaper and looks better than plexi. Some TH-camrs actually use it on their tanks.
Dude, I have the 70ltr scapers tank. I took the cover glass to local glass company who trimmed it to size so that I could get my Aquario neo flow (m) I still able to use the fittings but don’t need them all. They did a great job and bevelled the edge and rounded corners all for around £3.
Looks great. I doubt the betta would jump through those tiny side gaps I’ve had larger spaces with no issues. Having the air gap stops the condensation. You could use that hole in the lid to plant a peace Lilly or avocado seed etc perfect little plant holder.
cheers from Ukraine) The aquarium looks amazing. Your videos make me want to buy an aquarium again. Even though I haven't had one in the last 10 years and a lot of knowledge about them has been forgotten.
If the lid doesn't fit with the filter of choice, change the lid. I used Eckfilter in few nano tanks, it doesn't look bad with black background, but it's filtration media are meh... Better use the external filter and different lid (or cut the corner, that works too). Consider replacing that glass lid with a polymer sheet or plexiglass.
I'd call him Turquoise, it is blue and green and the color is relaxing and keeps an emotional balance between the active fish and the smooth aquascape. :)
Looks awesome!. Name it: Celestino. Hoho. Celestino is a Latin male name that refers to the sky color "celeste" (blue). Greetings from Mexico City, Mexico.
These wild bettas can slither out of the tiniest space & jump quite a distance...this can happen anytime after months go by even. Also, can be very aggressive eaters, jumping very hard and high to grab food; getting carried away they end up on the floor dead or injured.
My beta sits on top of the heater lol I made beautiful aquascape but he likes the heater 🤣... love your videos man you inspire me and you have a ton of talent your videos taught me a lot...

Hi. Every tank you make look amazing. I have a couple of questions though. Do you set up a Co2 injection system for this betta tank and if you do what are the exact usage, cycle, period of time etc. of it (especially for bettas)? Because I've read some things about you shouldn't do Co2 injection to bettas because it harms them. At the same time no one explains how often should you do a Co2 injection to your tanks, is it for everyday usage, close at nights or do the injection once a week or what? I am really confused. Thank you.
"Iron wood" could refer to many different species; Every other country has it's own wood that it calls "iron wood" due to the level of hardness. In the central US, our ironwood is also known as "hedge apple" or "osage orange" and was used to make fence posts due to its natural rot resistance, heavily planted to make impassable hedges due to its thorniness, and by Native Americans to make strong flexible (and expensive) bows. No idea if it's good for an aquarium though, but I would imagine it would sink without having to be soaked because it's dense and heavy. As far as local materials go, I recently found some thick vines stems and roots that work well for driftwood because they grow in interesting non-linear patterns, have a deep red coloration, and are heavy and sink (and will likely be rot resistant).
I have lost so many Bettas from diseases that were in community tanks. I have found that they need clean water more than anything so I put them in smaller tanks and do water changes every two or three days with excellent success.
I bought those stainless pipes w/ the skimmer and was very disappointed that the skimmer didn't seem to work at all.. my mini canister would constantly get airbubbles in the canister and run it through the pump (noisy), so I took the entire thing apart and resealed all of the threads, seems much better now, wonder if that leak caused the skimmer to be less effective.. excited to see if it works for you

Oh. Who is Filipe Oliveira? I am sorry but I am new here.
@Ross
Thank you. I found his channel. All his tanks are just terrific. He is a talent for sure. Wish him the best.
I did not know about his condittion...
this betta's name shall be shimmer
I think the lid is perfectly fine tbh. Bettas can jump but it’s still rare plus the odds of it jumping through any of those small gaps is low
The sense of scale you achieved with this scape is impressive. When you changed the camera shot to you beings at next to it, you realize how tiny the tank is!
Your lid efforts are extremely wholesome and pure. Gorgeous build!
a cool name for your new child-- "Hiu" pronounced hee-you. It's Indonesian for shark, which are fascinating alien creatures too
The scape is very beautiful. But I would leave some airholes on the top so oxygen could get in, for the betta to breathe. Especially with co2 in the water. I love that you got a betta too, it's a beauty
true ✨
An air pump works too
He's absolutely gorgeous, you got an excellent fish to accentuate your excellent scape
wish i had fish stores like that near me. every shop i've been to looks like they stopped caring about it 20 years ago. tank looks great

Where Bettas used to live in puddles, drainage ditches and ricepaddies, they have now become the Kardashians of the tropical fishworld.
They have never lived in puddles and drainage ditches. They live in streams and rice paddies in Thailand

For sure wil modify the lid and use external. As this tank is aquarium view oriented tank.
