Quit school at 16 back in 83, got my good enough diploma. Army recruiter got a phone call from the high school of fresh drop outs. Recruiter called me up said, hey, wanna be an engineer? What’s that? You’ll do just fine. I was 5’ 11” and 135 pounds, I couldn’t even do 10 push-ups. Off to fort lost in the woods misery for five months. I had no idea at all what a sapper was at 16. Boy, did I find out, five months later, I weighed 185 and could do 70 pushups in 2 minutes. Ended up in the 81st infantry division as their youngest member and a sapper. Good times.

Met a dude back in 2006 (everyone was going to Iraq almost. Great times - no one ever said! Haha). But he did Sapper and then Ranger that summer. He said it was the worst summer of his life. I don't know how the hell he survived all of that.
No shit, there I was…. While at FLW for MP OSUT in January’01 I was working KP duty in the DFAC when I bumped into a young soldier. Guy might have been 27ish & shorter than my own 5’6”. Looked over as I went to apologize and immediately noticed that I was likely about to die! This guy wasn’t some BCT Pvt, no, he was the Sapper 1SG! First time I’d ever seen a Triple Canopy. I made my apologies and he acted like it was no big deal.
Also, years later my younger cousin graduated from this school and became one of the first female Combat Engineers company commanders. She’d already done 2 tours overseas, one enlisted, one as a platoon leader & XO for an engineer construction company.
If you don’t agree with those who’ve earned a sapper tab or even those who haven’t but tried many times you should not be infantry. Most of your movements and patrols are cleared by engineers or eod long before your butter bar get an op Ed .

My father was a Sapper in the US Army. He was extremely proud of this and as a kid I was in awe of Sappers and what all they did. I wanted to join the Army and follow in his footsteps and become a Sapper myself. Due to some issues with depression and the fact I was prescribed antidepressants disqualified me from enlisting. I have gone on to become a mechanical engineer. To show support to Sappers and my dad would it be okay to wear a t shirt with the word Sapper on it? I don’t want to imply or make anyone believe I had earned a Sapper tab because I definitely have not. I still have a deep admiration for the Army Corps of Engineers and want to show my support for them and all they do.

They also gave him meds for depression and he went in person and told them everything they wanted to hear about him not having depression and he got in. I don't drink or do drugs but I have a criminal record for something I didn't even do but still got charged with and now I can't join the military. It's dumb bro. I caught a domestic violence charge because I called the cops to report my girlfriend for domestic violence and my gf lied and tried to make it seem like I raped her and that's why they charged me. Another thing was because I wasn't financially stable go get a lawyer but even then some lawyers are biased and don't even want to help. Like rn I'm still trying to fight it and I can't find not a single lawyer to help defend me in my case. All I want to do is join the marines and I can't even do that. It's very annoying and frustrating to see people that are criminals and beat women and men up and like violence are still able to get in but someone like me who refrains from that can't get in because of a dumb record. You can still get in. As long as you can prove your good you can get in, my friend was disqualified cuz he took meds for depression, he came back a year later and got in, the entry level is like 40 years oldand under. You can still get in my guy go get it
MICLIC. Mine clearing line charge. Edit: while the MICLIC is awesome, it can be defeated by mines with anti sudden pressure fuses like the Italian VS-MK2 and SB-33. The Italians were nasty mine builders.
My first unit of assignment was the fifth engineer battalion fort Leonard Wood Missouri in 1988. I served at hhc of the 5th engineer battalion until 1992 after desert storm. I attended the course in 1989 when we still wore Woodland bdus( yes I am showing my age) and the tab was not authorized. We used to put the tab under the flap of our shirt pocket. I am now retired after 20 years of service in combat engineer and cavalry unit. Of all the schools I have taken this one was not one that I had asked for. My then battalion Commander what's one of the individuals that helped push for the formation of the school. And he believed that everybody was in his unit should attend.
I was a sapper with the British army out in Iraq '03. Fun times. Though I didn't realise that not all combat engineers in the U.S. military are sappers. (Unlike the U.K. army where every Royal Engineer is trained as a sapper.)

Sapper school has never been main stream and the tab wasn’t allowed until 2007 or 2008 ( i may be wrong on the date but close enough). In 11 years i ran into 1 infantry officer who wore a sapper and ranger tab. That man was a fuckin legend in my mind. LTC Tuscon was his name

I'm going in as infantry because of the 40k bonus but I got airborne and asked for fort drum because one of my dreams is to pass ranger school and air assault school and hopefully be able to become a officer. Only regret as I am about to go to osut is I think people who pass sapper school are cool and I'm pretty sure infantry can't go. Red tabs are fucking fire

1:10 This rocket with firehose lead is called a MIC-LIC. Each 3 feet or so a 40mm grenade is sewn into the tube. It is set off to blow up landmines so vehicles can pass through.
Not Infantry at all. Crazier and Smart. We had to be flexible enough to work autonomously in teams of two with infantry or as a larger Company size Engineer component. I loved being an Engineer. I was with an assault/breach Plt that often times went outside the wire dismounted. I was tasked out a few times with another soldier to be imbedded with an Infantry PLT. Infantry is good at their job, but I can attest first hand that it's just a different mentality. I also spent time with a Marine TF. Funny thing is we got along better with the Marines than we did Army infantry, and they probably thought we were the only mos in the army that may be crazier than most Marines.
When did the Sapper tab become “coveted”? As a grunt we laughed at it. A gut check for combat engineers but no way equal to a Ranger or SF tab or even jump wings. Kind of falls right in there with the jungle and arctic “hey, look at me” tabs.
Back in my day…no, really…. I damn certain didn’t attend because at that time it was only open to engineers, but in the early 2k’s either airborne or air assault were prerequisites to attend the course. And while in basic in January 2001 the Sapper school NCOIC at the time was a triple canopy guy. I know because I accidentally bumped into him and began to profusely apologize upon realizing whom I had bumped into.
Then you are misinformed. Ranger and Sapper have the same attrition rates. One is a sprint and one is a marathon. My class had two cav scouts(abn) one was a no go. I was also 82nd and can say with full certainty than basic airborne is so much easier than Sapper it’s not even close. As far as coveted, they graduate about 400 Sappers per year. There aren’t many of us out there.
That's a good joke man, not even equal to jump wings 😂😂😂 They did have to slightly modify the course thanks to a gentleman called Timothy McVeigh. Hopefully you know who he is and what he did. But even after the changes, it's no SF Q course but it's no walk in the park either.

Funny thing is we got along better with the Marines than we did Army infantry, and they probably thought we were the only mos in the army that may be crazier than most Marines.

When did the Sapper tab become “coveted”? As a grunt we laughed at it. A gut check for combat engineers but no way equal to a Ranger or SF tab or even jump wings. Kind of falls right in there with the jungle and arctic “hey, look at me” tabs.

I damn certain didn’t attend because at that time it was only open to engineers, but in the early 2k’s either airborne or air assault were prerequisites to attend the course. And while in basic in January 2001 the Sapper school NCOIC at the time was a triple canopy guy. I know because I accidentally bumped into him and began to profusely apologize upon realizing whom I had bumped into.
Then you are misinformed. Ranger and Sapper have the same attrition rates. One is a sprint and one is a marathon. My class had two cav scouts(abn) one was a no go. I was also 82nd and can say with full certainty than basic airborne is so much easier than Sapper it’s not even close.
As far as coveted, they graduate about 400 Sappers per year. There aren’t many of us out there.
That's a good joke man, not even equal to jump wings 😂😂😂 They did have to slightly modify the course thanks to a gentleman called Timothy McVeigh. Hopefully you know who he is and what he did. But even after the changes, it's no SF Q course but it's no walk in the park either.
@@dominicsanchez2972 ~ when you go your class has to choose a rock to carry through the whole way. All of the GOs get to sign the rock at the end of school. There is a rock signed McVeigh.

I was the first E3 through the course in March of 1988.
This is like the navy seal but they do it on the ground instead. Should be name like lizard army or chamelion army😂😂😂
