And it didn't stick with me much... so probably a 3-3.5 would be more accurate. Looks like you had a lovely time with your mom's birthday, so fun you were able to go visit her and throw a party!
Omg my two favs. I will recommend That Time I Got Drunk to everyone! and then Long Shot is such a different vibe. Once you get past the 50% it does give you such a sense of relief. It's intense and a LOT which is why I always give content warnings to people when I recommend it. If you can make it past that 50% it is definitely worth it (and definitely does not romanticize the abuse in the same way It Ends with Us does) but I do totally understand if you aren't able to finish it.
And yes, you are right, Long Shot is not a romance. It's a women's contemporary fiction. The rest of the Hoops series is romance, and not heavy like Long Shot.
I had such a hard time with Long Shot. 50% is probably getting to the point where things are about to start turning toward the positive, but I honestly remember very little about the story after the domestic violence parts. I actually think it was exacerbated too because I didn’t realize how graphic it was going to get so I was so shocked and put off by the first half (and it FELT. SO. LONG.) that I couldn’t conjure any happy feelings when I was supposed to. I’m glad I’m not alone. I feel like everyone raves about Kennedy Ryan’s books so I thought I was crazy and/or missing something. I’m glad to see (in comments) that not all of her books are this graphic.
i’ve read both and i think it’s more of how the authors handle the content. plus in a lot of other coho books there’s a lot of emotional abuse that’s not addressed and very much romanticized. i like toxicity don’t get me wrong but i need a book to be self aware about it and her other books are not in my opinion. again not talk about iewu for that specific point
Long Shot is really incredible (imo) and also a book that I will only read the one time I did. Her other books also have heavy content usually, but aren't domestic violence, thankfully! I love Kennedy's writing so, so much. She's absolutely incredible. But yeah... I feel you on how hard it was to read Long Shot in particular!
I feel ya on that claustrophobic thing, ughhhh. I recently read Baby by Annaleese Jochems and felt so smothered the entire book, I almost started empathizing with the crazy, awful character. So much relief when I finished that book.😂
you should of read Prince of the Sorrows! it is a duology, i haven't read the sequel but the first one was like crack to me. also can't spell treason without tea is on kindle unlimited and its basically a better legends and lattes bc it actually has plot

I felt the same way when I tried to listen to Long Shot. It was too much bad reality in that book for me. I wanted to love it but couldn't finish it🤦🏽♀️
