Kali Malone is such a wonderful composer, I'd love to hear her talk at length about her writing process, tuning systems, and the harmonic series. I bet she also has a lot of cool organ facts.
@@Obizuth that's really weird I'm actually listening to Kali Malone for the first time in a while right now. Why do you think she isn't? Are you a composer with beef, or do you just not like her? I get she has a minimalist and drony style that is not for everyone. If you don't like it I can respect that, but to say she has no talent is just ignorant. She literally studied composition. She writes and performs music, and I'm pretty sure that's what a composer does. She's currently on tour and collaborates with other musicians. If she was bad at her job in sure she wouldn't be getting all that work. Anyway I like her and according to Spotify at least another 29 thousand other people do so I'd call that a success for a pretty niche type of music.
@@everywhereattheendofemilyp7488right right. i get bothered when people try to diss Kali malone, probably cause her music is so sacred to me. The Sacrifical Code changed my life in ways, and I’m looking forward to everything she does. Even if her music is “simple” that doesn’t mean it lacks worth and brilliance. Some music fans seem to expect a composer / performer to shred a thousand notes a minute or whip out progressions of crazy 13th chords in all twelve keys for their work to have merit… it’s clown shit really.
@@fourtreemouths The Sacrificial Code was also life changing for me as before that I'd only ever heard drone music from bands like Sunn O))) and it was very cool to hear that kind of music on an acoustic instrument. She actually released a single yesterday btw. No Sun To Burn (for brass)
so many butthurts here with refined taste. Please, don´t think every classically trained musician thinks she is pretentious or whatever. I find her as very focused, almost ascetic artist. She is aiming for different kind of organ playing than "lets practice Widor symphonies 10 hours a day so I can show everyone how agile my fingers and legs are". And lets not forget that her roots come from punk, noise, DIY scene, that kind of thing.
My only problem with Kali Malone is that in her official site and her ig page she claims to be an organist, and she never studied nor piano nor organ that is an 8 year career at least) she accepted in many interviews she was not even a keyboardist but people has questioned her practices so much that now she has to lie saying she is an organist or idk.... I do like her drone music i think she has very good taste, but she is extremly pretentious for lying about her formation :S it does not matter if you are or not an interpreter when you are a composer but people really gets into that dumb complex
She plays the organ - and makes compelling compositions as such which are clearly thoughtful and well crafted. What other qualifications matter in the present? We are no longer living in the era of guilds and orders. It's a good thing - it was all vanity and status quo. "I learned from this person at this institution" no longer holds up. Do you listen to a beautiful piece of music, then stop yourself and ask "what is this person's training? Their certification? Can I still enjoy this?" You aren't worried they are a fraud - you are worried that you are a fraud.
SHE straight up STOLE Ellen Arkbro’s style. She was not inspired by it. She straight up stole it. Compositional style, instrumentation. Everything. Imagine helping someone arise as they straight up highjack your style and sell it as theirs presenting themselves as the ones who came up w it.
It is an exploration in tonality, or an experimentation in choosing keys that complement each other. She has something of a haunting beauty of her, vampire organ woman...

I didn't realize it was so easy to be called a 'composer'...

Um
You don't need to be an interpreter to legitimize/qualify yourself as an instrumentalist.
I mean she's playing the organ herself in her shows sooo hence - Organist.

Yeah, totally stole the genius idea "putting fingers on organ keys for a long time"
There seems to be an air of pretentiousness the entire time, but I'm sure it isn't intentional.
Imagine calling pretentious all that art that you don't understand and that goes beyond the margins of your limited stale musical taste.
