People who say Udit Narayan was “lucky” and has en cashed upon the opportunity post DDLJ awards fiasco, I laugh at their naivety. No doubt, Udit Narayan was no. 2 in comparison to Kumar Sanu 1990 to 1994 But if you look closely at the discography and musical journey of singers in 90s - Kumar Sanu wave started to wane post 1995 and Udit Narayan took over. He, then went over to rule till 2004 with Sonu as No.2. Post 2004, Sonu took over. In totality, Kumar Sanu ruled for around 5 years and Udit Narayan for around 7-8 years. It’s laughable to read comments where someone said Sonu was at top from 2000-04. Udit has Filmfare Awards in all of his active decades - 80s for QSQT, 90s for DDLJ, Raja Hindustani and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and 2000s for Lagaan. Hence, he wasn’t a PHENOMENA of an era but was a FORCE across eras.
