Celtic’s Perfect Week: Derby Delight, Champions League Cheer & New Bhoys Buzz

  • Sunday’s convincing derby win over Rangers was the perfect ending to a perfect week for Celtic as we showed our strength on and off the park, much to the delight of the supporters.
    The Champions League Draw on Thursday set the ball rolling before we smashed our record transfer fee on deadline day with the signing of Arne Engels, and it was then over to Brendan Rodgers’ side who done what they do best by once again outclassing a hapless Rangers side.
    It allows the Bhoys to now regroup and refocus during the international break after an impressive opening to the campaign and there’s plenty to then get excited about in the weeks and months ahead!

    What a difference a week makes. Credit the board for coming round to the managers way of thinking. Hopefully a sign of things to come. Quality over quantity at last!

    • @gezobel
      @gezobel 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      The Board has always backed Rodgers ever since he returned .. don't take my word for it just listen to Rodgers himself. He also publicly thanked the Board for going the extra mile in signing Idah. Long past time to ditch the 'received wisdom' of the media and some fans of a division between Board and Manager. Let's now consign that false narrative to the garbage bin once and for all.

    • @TheCelticExchange

      Definitely @TM - the board DID spend money last summer, but in all the wrong ways. This is much more like it.

    Why do folk continually state that the Board and the Manager are at odds with each other?
    Brendan was Dermot's chosen one and he would not have come back if he had not been confident of getting support.
    The time frame was of some concern but that appeared to affect more clubs than Celtic. That is why many teams were doing business right up to the wire.

    • @gezobel
      @gezobel 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Just read this after posting my own. The false Rodgers v Board narrative has now become thoroughly tiresome and only plays into the hands of our envious 'rivals' across the city. Let's all move forward wholly united as a club. If we do the future looks bright indeed.👍💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    The Board eventually caved into Rodgers calling them out at various times. We should have signed Bernardo and Idah early on and had them on the USA tour. We overpaid for Engels in the end but at least he's here. We messed up the Bogusz transfer and ended up with McCowan. We need a permanent LB in, not a loan with no option to buy. Taylor is out of contract next summer

    Idea of the super league is a joke. The clubs involved will make no money and go bankrupt. England will develop a new Manchester United, Spain will develop a new Real Madrid and Barcelona. Why are these top clubs at the top, because they are top of a monstrous pyramid. Take them out of that and the super league is nothing more than a silly exhibition league. I hope FIFA insist that any players who play within shall receive life bans in the real world of football. Remove this silly mirage from your minds.

      @@TheCelticExchange Indeed. I am still waiting on the second installment of the Jorge Cadete fan club to come in the post. 27 years but any day now fine fellow, any day now. My Jorge Cadete pen is almost out of ink!

    The fact that Rodgers had to call out the board for quality players over multiple windows gives the impression they have capitulated eventually after dragging their feet.

    So we never touched the transfer kitty and made 5 million player trading profit and we have to applaud the board ??? No chance

      Dont understand this theory. Should we just have spent an extra £8 - £9M to ensure we had spent more than we brought in?! Sign guys for the sake of it?

    My understanding is that cash in the business, even generated from player sales, once droment for 1 year is then unable to be used (in line with FFP to buy players).
    FFP dictates that only 70% of revenue + player sales can be used for player acquisitions, agents fees, players wages. If it's true that historic cash surpplus cannot be used for players then this window, in my opinion is another whiff from a board who admit that cash building is inefficient.
    There has been no investment of revenue. Only investment of the cash generated from sales. The likely 8 figure profit then becomes more cash which cannot be put on the park. This is unacceptable. Talk of musuems, infrastructure blah blah is great but the oppurtunity for the team to reach the Benfica's, Ajax's, even Club Brugge's of the world that should of been invested.
    Wondering if anyone has an opinion of this which might illuminate my own perspective?
