This is the first time I have seen a photo of this artist. Before today I have gone through life thinking that Alex Katz was a woman. My ignorance gave me such a different perspective than I have now.
+Tate Hey, hey. I know I'm a little late on this. But Dom said this wasn't his track. (Though all of his music is fantastic as well.) Any other ideas, friends?
I'm quite familiar with Katz's work and style for a good number of decades now. He is prolific, but in my view this is not a good thing. Why? Because I'm still trying to recall if I ever saw a Katz painting that I thought was good, or that I actually liked. I don't think so. I honestly do not think this work belongs in good collections, and certainly not in museums. The talk here in the video is off-putting, where he rambles on but really says nothing. I'm also not thrilled the way he casually tosses around names of great painters from the past, as if he comfortably belongs in their company. He does not. So I must end up concluding that these are not "fine art paintings", but instead are just "objects" made by a "not-wildly-talented" person. If they were better, better conceived, better composed, better drawn, and better painted ---- then perhaps some might be worthy of appreciation after all those years of work.
Katz is a normal human being touched by art … it is important i believe, listening artists talking about their craftsmanship and their relationship with their work … its take in composition, color and other relevant artists is meaningful … Tate sometimes show us real artists like Katz … most of the time show us guilt art or pure political propaganda … snobby intellectuals hided behind Tate’s management try to push their political ideas using art label like a disguise … don’t do that … Tate’s legacy its more important that your arrogance and ego … art is forever … politics is just the present
Crazy how kindergarteners don’t get more love for there art cause it’s no different..... it’s all about the people you know in the art world with money 💰
I really like how he talks about painting in no nonsense terms, but really sharp insights.
really very beautiful wonderful paintings, cant believe at nearly 90 he is still such a fantastic artist.
Some of the best wallpaper I've seen...
LOL
His flower paintings are BADASS.....his stuff is amazing
His work certainly got better as he aged. Beautiful!
Alex has a great smile!
run of the mill illustrator .
Beautiful
:39 great picture, tons of great artists in that photograph
I was thinking the exact same
Your videos keep getting better
I learned a lot in a very short time here….really!
The captions didn’t get the painter he’s referring to at 3:47 - it’s Watteau (before he mentions Rembrandt)
Great video! I like the surface quality of the paint in his work.
I think the photograph at :40 really shows Keith Haring's vitality and love of life, as well as Basquiat's irreverent sense of humor.
Wow... you're really up on things 😂
this studio s amazing !!!!
nice&best ART !!!!!!!!!!!
"Abstract is the grammar of my painting" Like that
super art

He may be, who knows? 😂
That man is full of him self, really good artists don't have to be.
I NEED the background music from this. Someone tell me.
Ethan Rucker Hi Ethan. The music for this film was made by Dom Mino - here's a link to his Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/dom-mino

he is only a graphic artist and a mediocre one at that
its sad that you can't see the stillness in his imagery, I agree its hard to see but theres something more in it than pure representation
I have to admit not really understanding the bigger appeal of his images either, but I don't think you can reduce him just to that.
I always thought that too. But there's something haunting and recognizable in his work. Something of Matisse in his simplicity.
The immediate presence is nonsense.
no fan at all of this.
