I tried the same thing as you. And then went with a set of led headlights that were all one sealed unit. They are very bright and are cheap. I paid 65 bucks for all 4. And they came with the correct connectors. And are dot approved. Been running them a year no issues yet.
Loving your square body man! I too drive a square body 86 k10 custom deluxe, I'm actually going to be installing some leds in my truck.. Enjoyed your videos on it 💪
Thanks for the tip on the seats. One word of advice for people not familiar with BMWs... get the COUPE seats not SEDAN... sedan seats do not fold forward. Made that dumb mistake, now trying to locate correct set! I emailed diy4x to see if they might add a set of solid brackets for this to their lineup. A set of solid brackets would allow me to make a drawer to go under each seat to hold stuff.
What size square tubing did you cut your seat brackets from? 4"? I found a set of manual M3 seats and need to fabricate some brackets and I'm wondering how far yours are off the floor.
Couple other questions. Looking closely at the video, it looks like you mounted the left seat on the right and the right seat on the left? What was your thinking there? I'm also confused looking at the video, it looks like your original seat mounting holes line up with the BMW rails (unless your floor mat is not original - I don't see any old holes)... my '88 seat mounting holes are approx 13.25" apart and the BMW seat rails are approx 18 1/8"... I'm thinking I fabricate brackets from 3"x 1.4" channel and weld on some ears for the wider BMW rails so that I can use the original mounting holes on the bottom.
Finally installed my E46 seats! Seriously worth all the trouble - these seats are amazing! I need to remove the driver's side and make an adjustment to my brackets. After that, I'll put together a PDF with photos, measurements for the brackets I made, etc.
Perfect time to look for a 73-75 K5 windshield frame! Ditch the roof and do the full convertible/soft top conversion! Ya ya, I know...your current soft top won't work. But you'll get most of what you paid for it back if you sell it on FB or Craigslist. Great video series btw, I stole a BUNCH of your ideas when I built my K5 rock/trail truck.
I have a 88 K5, PO had installed aftermarket headlight wiring harness and reflectors. The wiring harness/relays are nice in that when on hi-beam all 4 headlights are on hi, when on low, only 2 are on low. Problem was, there are 2 bulb types that use the same connector but the hi and low are reversed on them. Harness and reflectors are for 9007/HB5, PO had wrong bulbs installed. For months I fought trying to align them so I could see. Finally figured out that on lo, 2 high beams were on, and on hi, 4 low beams were on because of wrong bulbs! Bought the correct bulbs for the wiring harness and it's a night and day difference (bad pun). Put in Philips 9007 X-treamVision bulbs and love it. I don't think the LEDs in incandescent reflectors will work well from what I've read.
You have the bulbs clocked wrong try turning them in the housing and you'll get the correct light output look it up online and you'll see they have to be clocked a certain direction or you will not get the proper light output. Most have a very tiny allen head that needs to be loosened to allow turning of the bulb. I had the same goofey beam pattern till i learnes this and it fixed it 100%
Fwiw you might be able to space back your led bulb on the housing to get the correct output pattern. A while ago I retrofitted some hids into a halogen housing and by playing with the depth of the bulb I was able to get them to focus properly. The issue with the hid and led bulbs is the light output is a lot further Inward than the old halogen bulbs. So if you want to tinker around a little you may have some success
Those seat mounts are likely get u hurt. In a crash u need to let the trucks crumple zones reduce ur speed. When or if the seat comes loose you will not be able to take advantage of this. Look up the math for determining acceleration components. Basically find the G force and time.
I agree. The square tube will just collapse forward and allow the seat (and occupant) to move forward into the dash/ steering wheel/ windshield. Build some stronger mounts buddy!
James I finally put together the drawings and measurements with photos on how I made my BMW seat brackets: www.chevyk5.com/seats/installing-bmw-e46-m3-seats-in-k5-blazer/

the ring on the index finger is so West Coast. Great video thanks for the upload.
Didn't mean any disrespect.
Just thought maybe I was identifying a possible cultural difference from the Midwest to West coast. Have a good evening.
i totally agree about the round bar on a squarebody
You give new meaning to "Rolled Form top" with your K5 Blazer... Lol!

Great video keep them coming. You should post more on the Facebook page. 😁
what about the winners of the givaways?
What kind of grill do you have and where did you get it? Also that roof rust needs to be treated before it spreads. :-)
Awesome lights! Have you been able to get that ls swap smogged? if so a video would be great, either way
