  • so here is my take on why i use pollen substitute or protein paste. It certainly seems to help build up brood etc. bees are stronger for it! what do you think?

    Richard,
    I think that on hives where you have large feeders, a nylon cover like you use with small round feeders would come in handy. When you turn them over and put the pollen cake, put the nylon over it and then the inverted feeder. That way, the bees will not go up or possibly make combs.

      @richardnoel3141  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      completly agree but i like to give them lots of access above the frames so the consume the patty quickly. that way it never dries out, but i will return very soon to the production hives and remove the feeders for the winter. However i agree with you!

      yes good idea, i know someone who uses one in America. however for me, i bag it up in the house at the moment. a plasters mixer does a really good job. cleaning out the mixer can be tricky.! thanks for your comment.

    Here in the US, South Carolina, our dearth started a month early in June. Since, I had fed Apis sugar solution and Apis pollen patties. I fed 1/4# patties once a week because we have hive beetles. They have thrived. Once goldenrod came in, they ignore the patties. Thanks for the video.

    Hello Richard i think you are spot on . I do everything about the same way . In my sugar bricks I have to wait till winter is just around the corner if needed because if I put them on to early the bees will kick it out the door. In the spring if I have a good nest coming out of winter I keep just enough food in the hive to keep the bees going so they do not swarm if I am planning on not doing a bunch of splits but if I need splits to to build more colonies I will feed more an maybe put small patties on. Just to try to regulate them the way I want them to do ( OR TRY TO ) LOL. Your girls are looking great . Keep us informed. THANKS

    Beekeeper going into fourth year now. Started with two hives. Now at about 28, may do a combine or two before winter, and started a new honey bee program for the resort I work for. Without a mentor or bee club, I consider myself TH-cam and book educated, (for better or worse)
    You are someone who has made this possible for me. Thank you Richard. You are one of the few that we can follow to help us keep healthy productive bees. You have given me a solid foundation to grow. Thank you. I appreciate your efforts.

    I had only 20 hives in Poland with harsh winters I never fed anything other than sugar syrup in autumn just before the winter would come. I never lost one hive .
    I did think about pollen patty but it's just extra work and extra money .. didn't make any sense to me

    I have been open feeding dry ultra bee for the past month or so. Just purchased a 2nd bag a couple of weeks ago(.I believe it helps to prevent some of the Robbing in times of dearth) placed a order last night for Hive alive fondant and 500 ml of hive Alive liquid. Pollen patties are a risk this time of year in the Southern part of the US due to Hive Beetles. Owning Bees is like owning Poultry or Cattle. You do whatever you can to keep them Healthy and Alive. Too much money Invested to think any other way

    Have you ever tried an ice cream scoop (the type that you pull a trigger and a metal scraper comes around inside the bowl of the scoop) rather than a spoon to measure out the pollen sub. It may be a bit quicker.

    • @richardnoel3141
      @richardnoel3141  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Barry, yes i know about that, but you need a big ice cream scoop, I know Mike palmer uses the same. I am actually looking for a machine that can mix the stuff and pipe it in to bags but thats another dream!

    Parlez-vous francais. Just curious because of your location. I am a beekeeper from Louisiana. I sometimes look at french beekeeper sites to hear french. I am trying to learn french. I just became aware of your location. I thought you were English. See you in Louisville, Kentucky.
