    I managed to forget all about "that time I got drunk and saved a demon" (vlog th-cam.com/video/rcO00AXtqfw/w-d-xo.html). I needed a palate cleanser after reading the books you thought I'd hate... consider it done XD

    Hi Emily! I finally read I who have never known men this month, and while it didn't become a new favorite of mine, I'm still glad I read it. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

    I’m currently reading Oathbringer too! I’m only about 350 pages in so far. I’m enjoying it but it’s definitely a bit on the slower side compared to the first two. However I will die for Pattern. He’s stolen my heart this book.

    I started The Tainted Cup few days ago and blew through it in 1 sitting. I know 'murder mystery in a fantasy wolrd' is a pretty niche premise but I hope you make a video on the best books of that type you've read eventually.

    I’m currently listening to Men Who Hate Women. I know it’s on your shelves so just. It’s a really rough listen. It’ll be one of the most brutal books I’ve read all year for sure

      Yeah I could only read a chapter every couple days… it’s good but rough

    Good luck with the Islington series. I just read all 3 this last month, and the detailed recap at the beginning of book 3 was absolutely needed, I listened to it twice...bits are really confusing in the worldbuilding, but the final Epilogue is so satisfying!!

  • @Natecchi
    @Natecchi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I just finished the Licanius trilogy by James Islington and loved it so much! Book two was a bit slower for me but book three is epic and my personal favorite. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series whenever you decide to continue!

    Totally know what you’re talking about with Yours Truly! I read it in July as well and did end up giving it about 3.5 stars but the miscommunication in the second half was over the top for me and lessened my enjoyment for sure. However, I also read the third book in the series, Just For the Summer, and gave it 5 stars!! And I’m hoping to read Bright Young Women in the near future, glad you enjoyed it 😊 And I’m starting Oathbringer in the next week or so and can’t wait!

    You mentioned a a few videos ago that you’re looking for mystery/thriller recommendations. Just thought to mention that @MercysBookishMusings posted relatively recently a video about her favourite literary thrillers, sort of a blend of literary fiction and thriller. Maybe some of her suggestions sound interesting to you.

    I recently listened to The Art Thief and even though it was only about 6 hours, I felt like it was too long. I was less interested in his thefts, which is probably 2/3 of the book, and more interested in how they caught him.

    I've seen a lot of people say if you like Priory you probably won't like The Bone Season and vice versa. I first read it 10 years ago so it might be nostalgia, but I personally love The Bone Season series but had to soft dnf Priory

    I DND'd two books, Hungry Ghosts (2 dead dogs due to owner's negligence within first two chapters) and Strange Sally Diamond (child of child kidnapper and another child). Really enjoyed the Women's fiction prize winner, Brotherless Night.

    11 of the 12 I read in July were historical fiction.
    The Shadow of What was Lost was my 100th book of the year 4.5☆, and the only non historical fiction.
    Most of them were just ok, "wolf Winter by Cecilia Ekbäck was the best and Lucky Red by Claudia Cravens was 1☆.

    Totally off topic, where did you get the paintings beside your desk? Love them. On topic, why are most of the current fantasy books more romatasy/YA than fantasy. I don’t need the spicy scenes and romance tropes. I want the adventure, world building and political intrigue. It’s getting old and boring.

    Hey Emily, was wondering why some books you have read, you don't want to rate?

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Some non fiction I struggle to rate sometimes it's because they're memoir and it can be a bit weird to me

    I will say about the Bone Season - the original is so much worse. Like, you cannot believe how much better the new version is. It's absolutely a rerelease of a 2010's angsty dystopian novel, but it is _so much better_ than the original version.

    Speaking of Dark Matter, I’m curious, have you seen the show?? I always meant to read the book but ended up watching the show so I’m curious on your thoughts 😅 Blake Crouch was involved so I’m sure that helps!

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I did! The show has to spoil a few things early compare to what I remember in the book and it took me a few episodes to get into. Overall I think they did a great job

    girl i love your reviews but not a single one of those books you called YA are YA. they're all published by adult imprints for adults (even if they might have that intangible YA flavor to them)

    • @rocio9863
      @rocio9863 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Marketing labels are different than the actual writing styles. Just because publishers tells you they're selling to you something doesn't mean they are. Their marketing strategy is to sell easy books for adults without them knowing lol
      It's a none issue if you are well read and don't care about those things. Just pay more attention at what you consume instead of what people who wants your money say
