    Another great video sir! I am also not the biggest fan of trout to eat,but if you’re going to have trout ,ice fishing for them is the real deal! Cold water seems to be the key when it comes to great tasting trout. Loved this one.

    It’s been years since I went ice fishing, but I will likely try it again this winter on Lake Champlain or another lake in the Adirondack mountains.

    Would love to ice fish one day. The techniques used for it is interesting. I mean I can't just go on a lake and blindly drop my line into a hole and hope for the best. Tools like panoptics and other sonar devices are needed. Huts to keep you sheltered from the elements, heaters and of course a fishing partner(s) to fend off boredom(no fishing action).
    Are you guys planning to do a recap video of 2019 and what's to come in 2020? I enjoy those videos as well as the Q&A. Hoping for more bloopers vids too. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to keep us informed/entertained for the last decade now(correct???)

      Nagato Uzumaki Yep! We’ll be doing a recap just after Christmas for sure. 😊 Q&A too, keep an eye on Facebook or Instagram where we’ll ask people to send in questions, maybe next weekend. 😃

      You definitely dont need sonar, unless you know the lake its all a shot in the dark aside from what bait you use. You can literally drop a line in a random hole and catch fish, last weekend, no tent,no sonar. Just a stool a bucket an auger and my rod and i limited out at one of my local lakes at 5 fish, two rainbows and three brookies all ranging from 3-5 pounds. Dont let these youtube channels fool you into thinking you need the best of the best. My dad used to use a line on a stick and a bell and that man could feed our whole family with a peice of shrimp on the hook.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly a sounder is not needed to catch fish, but it makes it easier, I should have emphasized that. When we first started out (there are a couple of videos back in 2015), we used our hand auger, rod, and reel, that's it. Fish in some lakes are easier than others. I find brookies also are easier to entice right away than lets say rainbows at Tunkwa Lake, which tend to be highly migratory throughout the day.

    Out here on the island my version of ice fishing is going out to the fishing dock, smashing a hole in the less than one inch of ice and bottom fishing thru that. And that's on the 3 days every 10 years or so that the lake even ices over 🤣
    And you are so right about how winter rainbows taste so much better, I just had some for breakfast today 👍🏻

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤣 The island offers fantastic river and saltwater fishing opportunities, but the mainland definitely has more lake fishing options year round.

    Beautiful looking fish.
    You should try smoke it sometimes. Smoked Trout is our favourite smoked fish.
    Masa in N Van will smoke any fish.
    We went to Tunkwa Resort for ice fishing few years ago , 2 day, 3 rods, 50 holes, 10 types of bait later not a single bite.
    The lake is convenient to access, has cabins , WC etc but it’s hit and miss for ice fishing.
    Other lakes around Kamloops and Merritt are so much better.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks jack! From my experience, Tunkwa rainbows can be pretty easy to catch in open water season, but they sure are stubborn during the ice fishing season. That hasn't stopped us from going back each year lol, it's a lot of fun.

    The advantage of fishing this week, is the “flash” freeze when it hits the outside air. Bad thing is the numb toes and fingers. Lol

      @@FishingwithRod It was hot today, we've got out limits, but it's small trout there. Since I know how to pick weather now I'll target biggest lakes. Only one reason why I go there, it's just 2 hours from Burnaby.

      @FishingwithRod  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@canadians5172 Your other option is to head a little further to the Coldwater exit and take the Kane Valley Road and try out Harmon, Kane, Second Lakes where the fish are bigger. Those lakes would be the closest ones which hold big fish in them.

    Rod, do you always rap the tin-foil dull side in? If you do will the tin-foil deflect the heat away from what your cooking, thus taking longer to cook? Just asking.

    • @FishingwithRod

      Yep! I grew up eating fish head. We use pretty much every part of the fish (except the guts, but someone did introduce frying fish intestine to me this year, and it was surprisingly good) so there's no waste.
