It's just a simple observation of the massive differences between breaststroke techniques. And quite honestly, Kitajima should've medaled. He is the best technical breaststroker in the world, and the one who allowed the dolphin kick for the pullout after he naturally did it in 2004 (because he's so gracefully awesome). Gyurta has him to thank really.
it looked like that during the olympics, but in the olympic trials he looked amazing; his 100m breast was 58.90 (wouldve been good for a medal at london) and his 200m 2:08.00 (at the time the fastest anyone has gone since full body suits were banned) I dont know how he is doing right now (or if he even still swims) but he is definitely getting old...
I don't get why u say kitajima must leave swimming. It is his life his career. If he still can why not give him a chance. Im a swimmer and i understand better than you
Not hating on Gyurta, whatever works for him did the trick and I'm not crying either I wanted Weltz to win but I was just pointing out a fact and also he took that stroke and did the double double he should be proud of that
It does. It matters a lot. If a short guy and a tall guy has same technique and speed and are side by side which is unlikely. Which ones going to touch the wall first? The taller one of course.
If a short and a tall swim side by side that means the short guy is better, following your stupid logic. And who's going to touch the wall first? Obviously the better swimmer.
yeah! shame that it meant a huge nothing.....he couldn,t beat the BEST.maybe next year, when his even more beautiful. No doubt about, compering the size of the Countries,Hungary had and still has the best swimmers of the whole world in the past 20 years anyway. Awesome for that small country, not to mention the less money to support the sports there. You either got it,or not as the training facilities, well a bit behind.Well done Dani!!!!!!!
@@TheGoat-dp5xy I can't really speak for Gyurta, but from what I know about Japanese, there isn't really supposed to be any emphasis on any syllable of a word, but there is always an emphasis on words in Western language, so the commentators are emphasizing the 2nd syllable of Kitajima when it should be a little more flat
Yeah that conversion isn't accurate at all. It doesn't properly take into consideration the fact that there are double the number of turns and pullouts. Time conversions are only slightly more complicated than simply finding the rate the swimmer held, then extending it a bit to adjust for the distance.
if they had caught van der burgh doing the illegal kick, and kitajima made the time he did at japanese trials, he would have been the first man to win 3 in a row.... too bad it didnt happen though :(
Under 2: 00 in rio?? No way... maybe in 2024 olympics and with a 2m tall with a perfct stroke.... not with the actual swimmers. But hey!! I would be so happy if they prove me wrong ;)
3:47 - race starts
This helps. Thanks
Thanks
I raced against him in 2005 in Poland. He totally destroyed me after 30 meters :)
Lol

In terms of the 200m, nobody can swim it same as Gyurta, he is the reference for that event
kitajima looks like a guitar pick
😀👌...
Hope everyone has great week God bless!
It's sad to admit this, but Kitajima has passed his prime. Time for the young guns to take on.

It's called talent and hard work. Gyurta has a natural very flat glide phase
this is to thrilling!
tnx
100m backstroke is the best event.
Even 2:05 would be incredibly difficult at Rio

theres a video of it on youtube, unless they removed it and im unaware of that
“It was a classic” great race, Gyurta is the best 200 breaststroker in the history
Height matters a ton in swimming. It's a huge advantage, but it isn't everything.
What a god
Notice at 3.52 one of the swimmers adds an extra dolphin kick
Honestly, this was anyone's race.
The United States has always been weak in this event.
Basem Magd mike barrowman was a consistent wr holder in this event and he was american
You do not really see many American breastrokers step up, except maybe Kevon Cordes, but that pretty much is it.
+Basem Magd andrew wilson, reece whitley, will licon, josh prenot all have really really good lcm 200br times
and cody miller

No they don't. You are special
I wish the commenatators learned how to pronounce Kitajima!
I wish they learned how to pronounce Gyurta.
Nucking Futs how does one pronounce both names? Also I believe their accents might be why they are mispronouncing the names.

Agreed.
Me too!
Who else does swimming club or lessons and watches as many Olympic Butterfly races, so they don’t breathe the same time as the stroke?

Looking back at it now kitajimas finish was horrible. He eased off on his last two strokes and broke his rhythm
does anyone know why many breaststrokers prefer swedish goggles , and also - whats the advantage of a single strap over a double strap ?
If you put a single strap over a double strap it’s less drag בוגורד דניאל
