Damage step sucks... Also, can I get a super dumbed-down explanation of "When, you can" interactions with the chain? Still missing timings with House Dragonmaid at the start of the battle phase.
"When" Trigger effect activation conditions will check the very last thing that happened before the current Chain began. If that thing is not the activation condition being met, it cannot activate.
To put it very simply, they don't. You can only activate them after the chain, so the activation requirement (meaning the "when" part) has to be the last thing to happen in the chain, as in chain link 1, as in whatever got responded to to start the chain. For an example, if one of your dragonmaids gets hit by a destruction effect and you respond with Dragonmaid Send-Off to dodge the effect, the chain would start resolving and your dragonmaid would return to hand during the chain, which means you cannot activate House Dragonmaid. For another example of when it would work, if you use Dragonmaid Send-Off, your opponent responds with a negate and you negate their negate, to keep it simple, the chain would start resolving and after the Dragonmaid Send-Off, the chain ends. You can now activate House Dragonmaid, because the chain is no longer active and the last effect in the chain returned a dragonmaid to your hand.
After you resolve the chain with an effect that bounces a dragon monster,House checks if the effect that bounces is the last one in that chain. It can be activated if it is and misses timing if it isn't.
In regards to redirecting battle damage, there are instances where both can apply. This is only the case if there is an effect which makes battle damage be taken by both players (e.g. Double-Edged Sword). In which case both redirect effects are applied simultaneously to the damage each player would be taking at that point.
Important for the yubel situation: Yubel has an effect that sets battle damage to 0. This is applied after all the damage redirected. Which means that if the yubel player would take damage after the redirection, that damage is set to 0.
I have a question. So I was playing MD and my opponent flips a set Book of Eclipse. I then Chain Time Thief Redoer's Trap effect to set it on top of his deck but for some reason I'm not able. My question is: If a set card is flipped and I chain to it, does it only count as face-up by the time it resolves in the chain? Because that's is the only explanation that makes sense to me for what happened.
If i remember is something like the card being marked to go to the gy for game mechanics, so you can't flip/bounce it back on resolution. Unless of course it's a card that would stay on the field like a continuous/equip/etc.
A normal/quickplay spell/normal trap is marked as being sent to the GY at the end of the chain once it is activated. If a card is marked for being sent to the GY, or marked for destruction, you can no longer return the card back to the hand or deck, unless the effect specifically states that it returns a card instead of it being sent to the GY (i.e. something like Blizzard).
@@ze2896 it's the same ruling for something like torrential tribute vs a bunch of six samurai monsters, yes the six samurais can usually destroy another samurai to save themselves, but in this case since torrential tribute will destroy all of them anyways, they are all "marked for destruction" and thus you can't keep any of them on board

How does the following situation work? I activate theinen the great sphinxes trigger effect in deck because both other sphinxes were destroyed, then I chain needlebug nest and mill 1 copy of theinen the great sphinx. Am I allowed to special summon a theinen from deck if I play a second one, even though there is no way to verify if its the one I originally triggered?
I don't think Konami has any defined procedure for this. If I was Judging, I would have you count the number in the deck that the Thien is activating at so that it is known by both players. Or otherwise mark it in some manner that is only known while face-up. Such as flipping it upside down in its sleeve. Which specific copy of a card activated its effect, is always public knowledge that turn.
Amazoness Swords Woman (1), equipped with Double-Edged Sword has 3500 ATK and attacks Amazoness Swords Woman (2), with 1500 ATK. Calculate battle damage normally. (2) is taking 2000 Damage. Double-Edged Sword applies. (1) and (2) are taking 2000 Damage. (1) and (2) simultaneously apply their redirect damage effect to the damage they are currently taking. (1) is now taking the 2000 Damage that (2) was taking, and vice versa. There is no net change in Battle Damage dealt to either player, but you still track this step, as it can matter for more complex scenarios. Each player takes 2000 Battle Damage. Damage Calculation ends. After Damage Calculation, activate Double-Edged Sword's effect to send it to the GY.
it returns to the s/t as a face up trap, it remains there even if the negate ceases later too if its becomes set e.g book of moon then it returns face down to the s/t zone or in the case of no available s/t to occupy then it goes to grave by game mechanics
Nope. Although, funnily enough, Dimensional Fissure doesn't always stop it if Convulsion of Nature is on field, as you will know if the card to be sent is a monster or not.
When it comes to Right Hand Shark. If it used to summon an XYZ monster with another water monster, granting it the battle invulnerability and that XYZ is flipped face down, when it is flipped face up, would Right Hand Shark's effect apply? Cause even if the XYZ forgets it's materials, it's Right Hand Shark's effect.
The Xyz monster will no longer have the effect granted to it by Right Hand Shark, if flipped face-down or temporarily banished. It forgets all the properties of the cards used for its Summon and previously applied effects stop applying.
Ruling Question - With regarding the new Heavy Polymerization, if summoning a Fusion monster with a name specifically mentioned. Can I use Muddy Mudragon from my Extra Deck (if my opponent controls a monster) to substitute for that material?
Substitution effects like muddy mudragon can only apply while the card is on the field, in grave or in the hand. In any other location you cannot use their subsitution effect.
W/ the Rivalry/Gozen ruling, when the field check is applied, could we choose to send the non-flip monster and have the flip effect resolve that way? Also I like this, ruling content is great
You cannot choose to send the non-FLIP monster. You must send the most recently controlled face-up monster, which contradicts the effect of Rivalry/Gozen.
@@katiegrayx3637 Yes, it's different in this scenario because Gozen/Rivalry was already applying. If Rivalry/Gozen begins applying while you already control monsters of different types/attributes, you can choose which to send.
2 Rulling questions : - why can you not activate Nibiru under Kaiser Coliseum? - why is Stand-Up Centur-Ion immune to destruction when all Centur-Ion monster(s) on the field are in the spell & trap zone as face-up continuous trap?
Kaiser...is weird imma not delve into that one But Stand-Up says "while you control a Centur-ion 'Monster Card'". Not monster, Monster Card, which means it checks if the original type of that card is a monster
Kaiser Colosseum's effect doesn't get "turned off" in the middle of a Nibiru activation, its effect states that your opponent cannot place a monster on the field if it would cause there to be an excess. At the instant Nibiru is summoned, Kaiser Colosseum recognizes that it is an effect that would cause the opponent to have more monsters on field, so it can't activate.
Your first question has a very complicated answer. But I'll try to put it as simply as possible. Essentially, when checking for Nibiru's activation legality under Kaiser, it looks at how many monsters the opponent would control, if they were to be tributed, then it checks if you are trying to put more monsters on the field than they control. Which is almost always the case as you are trying to put Nibiru on the field, while they would control no monsters after they are Tributed. So Nibiru cannot activate as it would conflict with Kaiser at that time. Because Stand-Up says "Monster CARD". A Continuous Trap is still a Monster CARD, if that is its original printed type.
first question answer is actually you can but only in specific conditions (quoted from website ygoorganization ocg ruling update 12-15-2023) Kaiser Colosseum stops your opponent from using Nibiru on you, except in situations where your monsters that it can’t attempt to Tribute (face-down monsters and Summoner Monk, etc.) outnumber theirs. In most cases, Kaiser Colosseum will see Nibiru as an attempt for the opponent to Summon a monster while the number of monsters is equal (zero, due to them all being Tributed), and prevent the activation despite the fact that its effect would stop applying if there were no monsters on the field.
Rulings are back!!!!!! Let's fucking goooooooo!!! Please, explain the whole rule about ritual summon,I don't remember the name That about tribute what cost you less How works in general? This affects the monsters in my hand to? I have 1 lvl 4 and 1 lvl 5 on the field,to ritual summon a lvl 4, I must tribute the lvl 4? Or can I tribute the lvl 5 even if his lvl exceed the tribute required?
I have another from my brother, also in MD and from some time ago Miracle Syncro Fusion, to put a long story short, he plays Blue Eyes, the field set up is as follows In his field there are his Blue-Eyes White Dragon and a White Stone of Legends (or the other stone), the oponent had no negates nor floodgates up, and my brother had both Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon and Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon in the ED, yet, he wasnt able to activate the Miracle Synchro Fusion in his hand Ive yet to find why since nothing I say said he cannot
Let's do something to help some people out with missing the timing and chain blocking. For the sake of example, let's say I used Clear Effector and Tuningware in the synchro summon of Black Rose Dragon. Could the two other materials draw effect be chain blocked by Black Rose Dragon's effect, or would Black Rose miss the timing in that scenario? And to make this relevant to chain blocking, why can't the opponent use something like Ash Blossom on the Tuningware and Clear Effector?
YES! I love your rulings content and it was how I got into your channel initially (and how I first got interested in knowing a lot of rulings)! I love that you’re doing this again!
hi! love the content, but question: how would equipping face down monsters work? like if you equipped it, and it was a flip, would it get flipped up, and then equipped? would it trigger its flip effect? would plasma just equip it while face down and not gain any stats?
Because it wasn't addressed: I think I saw in Master Duel with cards like Anima that a face-down Defense Position monster is not flipped face-up on equip. You can't check what it is, and it is treated as a ?/? monster because of that, so Anima gains 0 ATK. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, Coder.

If Zarc (or Umi or Mask Changed) got limited to 1 how would that impact your ability to run Arcray Dragon (or a Legendary Ocean or Mask Change 2). All of these cards have "this card is treated as X" so if X gets hit do all other copies also get hit
One really fun interaction I had in MD once, relating to the Anima/Relinquished equipping a monster, was my opponent targeted one of my face down monsters to equip and when it went to the S/T zone, it not only didn't flip it face up, but because it was still face down, no stat modulation was applied. It actually ended up saving me lmao
I mean... Coder, you were or are at least in my knowledge one of the few judges making fun content and answering genuine questions about rulings and stuff more in-depth of the game. Yes, we have Jesse and Josh making competitive content like testing for WCS, handtraps that are good in the format and everything like that but few making content about the ruling nightmares that this game can produce in some instances.
This video was actually super helpful for me because I'm the head judge of a custom card server and one of the top decks specifically uses the Plasma interaction. It's so crazy unintuitive sometimes, like the Relinquished attempt to equip ruling, so getting all the help I can with that makes my job a lot easier.

Definitely love the ruling content coder! I would love to see like a "Master Duel Ruling Misconceptions" video. I feel like a lot of people play MD have not played the TCG really and there are some common card interactions that MD players get wrong or forget all the time!
First time I've watched a vid of yours in like a year because before the vibes were just really negative and passive aggressive like how Yacine is now, Def prefer this and will keep watching if u keep it up
Another way to look at the damage redirection is to classify the damage differently. Its only battle damage when it comes from a monster battling. The redirected damage is burn damage, so can't be redirected by this effect.

Unfortunately Coder Farfa doesn’t temporarily banish cause I still haven’t gotten those braincells back from watching him review Master Duel Meta Meme Review
fresh cut coder
I have a question: can dragostapelia negate underworld goddess of the closed world ????
No. Its a Continuous effect of Dragostapelia which negates, it does not target or activate. It can place a counter on it though.
Underworld goddess is unaffected by activated effects unless they target her, the negate on dragostapelia is a continuous effect (not activated), so it is affected by the effect.

One thing I learned in 05 was the battle step happens before the damage step, thanks Spear Dragon!
i wish these ruling vids did better numbers for coder cuz i feel this is the area he exceeded at compared to other yugitubers which couldnt offer this kinda content.
the series where other yugitubers were asked ruling questions was kino
I would assume you are, but I would also assume this has never happened in any tournament game
@@nopeno-s5r yes I love coming up with stupid unrealistic situations
This is your best content, I hope it becomes more popular so you can keep doing it.
Love this type of content, help a lot while being entertaining.
I WAS HERE FOR THE RULLING QUESTIONS!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Regarding the battle redirection, what happens when Double-Edged Sword is involved?
What happens if you negate the effects of trap monster while it is on the field face-up as a monster? Does it go to GY?
it returns to the s/t as a face up trap, it remains there even if the negate ceases later too
if its becomes set e.g book of moon then it returns face down to the s/t zone or in the case of no available s/t to occupy then it goes to grave by game mechanics
Am I allowed to attack if my opponent has gravekeepers servant and dimensional fissure?
Nope. Although, funnily enough, Dimensional Fissure doesn't always stop it if Convulsion of Nature is on field, as you will know if the card to be sent is a monster or not.
RULINGS ARE BACK
When it comes to Right Hand Shark. If it used to summon an XYZ monster with another water monster, granting it the battle invulnerability and that XYZ is flipped face down, when it is flipped face up, would Right Hand Shark's effect apply? Cause even if the XYZ forgets it's materials, it's Right Hand Shark's effect.
I think it does cause the monster itself gains that effect and it has it while its on the field
The Xyz monster will no longer have the effect granted to it by Right Hand Shark, if flipped face-down or temporarily banished. It forgets all the properties of the cards used for its Summon and previously applied effects stop applying.
Ruling Question -
With regarding the new Heavy Polymerization, if summoning a Fusion monster with a name specifically mentioned. Can I use Muddy Mudragon from my Extra Deck (if my opponent controls a monster) to substitute for that material?
Substitution effects like muddy mudragon can only apply while the card is on the field, in grave or in the hand.
In any other location you cannot use their subsitution effect.
You cannot apply Fusion substitution effects like Muddy Mudragon from the Extra Deck/Main Deck, or Banishment.
@@monkfishy6348 its different than when it gets activated? rip
@@katiegrayx3637 Yes, it's different in this scenario because Gozen/Rivalry was already applying.
If Rivalry/Gozen begins applying while you already control monsters of different types/attributes, you can choose which to send.
I swear the Damage Step can be it’s own college course
real
You can easily make a School out of Yugioh rulings. Some sort of... Dueling Academy.
2 Rulling questions :
- why can you not activate Nibiru under Kaiser Coliseum?
- why is Stand-Up Centur-Ion immune to destruction when all Centur-Ion monster(s) on the field are in the spell & trap zone as face-up continuous trap?
Centur-ion monsters in the Spell and Trap zone are still Monster Cards, and the field spell has its immunity if you control a Monster Card.
Kaiser...is weird imma not delve into that one
But Stand-Up says "while you control a Centur-ion 'Monster Card'".
A Continuous Trap is still a Monster CARD, if that is its original printed type.
first question answer is actually you can but only in specific conditions (quoted from website ygoorganization ocg ruling update 12-15-2023)
Kaiser Colosseum stops your opponent from using Nibiru on you, except in situations where your monsters that it can’t attempt to Tribute (face-down monsters and Summoner Monk, etc.) outnumber theirs.
Please, explain the whole rule about ritual summon,I don't remember the name
That about tribute what cost you less
How works in general?
This affects the monsters in my hand to?
I have 1 lvl 4 and 1 lvl 5 on the field,to ritual summon a lvl 4, I must tribute the lvl 4? Or can I tribute the lvl 5 even if his lvl exceed the tribute required?
I have another from my brother, also in MD and from some time ago
Miracle Syncro Fusion, to put a long story short, he plays Blue Eyes, the field set up is as follows
In his field there are his Blue-Eyes White Dragon and a White Stone of Legends (or the other stone), the oponent had no negates nor floodgates up, and my brother had both Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon and Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon in the ED, yet, he wasnt able to activate the Miracle Synchro Fusion in his hand
Ive yet to find why since nothing I say said he cannot
As someone who mains Amazoness thank you for making damage redirection SO SO SO much simpler to understand!
Poggers Coder! Good to have you back on the Ruling Videos, wish for more to come!~
Congrats~ nwn
13:17 so youre saying I cant pull off what Yugi did in the Seal of Orichalcos arc and redirect infinitely to do infinity attack? 😂
4:03: it’s like Madolche Promenade vs Called by the Grave: even if the Madolche monster you targetted gets banished, promenade will still negate the targetted card because it does that first before bouncing the Madolche monster
Just tell me that your not the master of Pokémon technology and I’ll understand and not get banned from the store for using my name on the AE86. This game is like a giant fuckfest and it does follow some of the real life rules. The other half is just………
I love this rulings stuff eventho I no longer play MD. Coz I still watch Dkayed weekly meta and having the knowledge does help me understands the interactions better. Also that haircut hella fresh 😂
Wait, but doesn’t the attack of the nib token become the combined original attack points?
Therefore. I swear in masterduel I’ve taken nib token with plasma and gained half the attack.
Glad to see you so totally back coder!
LETS GOOOOO! Senior level damage calculation class please!
I'm glad I correctly understand flip effect rulings with gozen/rivalry after the april 2020 rules revisions. Ive several times had to explain this to people confused why the flip effect isn't activating.
why when I summon Bues Eyes Tyrant dragon while my oponent has "lose 1 turn" face up he is effected by the trap card? isn't he supposed to be protected from trap cards and effects?
Hell yeah! I was hoping to see these kinds of videos again!
I started watching your channel because of them. Keep it up!
I remember when this poor first time judge had to literally babysit an entire duel because one guy played floodgate Altergeist and got away with pretty much everything.
Said guy was banned not long after. He was literally carrying a "cheat sheet" on hard to get rulings.
Damn, i didn't even know about the d'amare redirection one. Amazing content❤I'm really happy that this format is finally back
SO GLAD THIS SERIES CAME BACK! 💥💥🔥🔥 We definetely need more
wasn't expecting my question would have been picked but I'm glad it was 😅
thanks coder and also to your community who also helped explain it on Twitter ❤
Your rulings videos are the reason I went from not knowing rulings for almost any complex interaction to being a sort-of unofficial judge. You got me hooked on knowing rulings.
Ohime the Manifested Mikanko vs Nightmare Pain no one will take damage bc ohime and the yubel monsters both are 0 atk
I should have seen the tweet to answer my weird ruling question abiut Rock of the Vanquisher and Rise to full Height GY effect interacting during your opponenet's battle phase
If Zarc (or Umi or Mask Changed) got limited to 1 how would that impact your ability to run Arcray Dragon (or a Legendary Ocean or Mask Change 2).
All of these cards have "this card is treated as X" so if X gets hit do all other copies also get hit
I love ruling videos what got me watching your content was your old judge ruling videos
Coder making a ruling video? Christmas came early.
That battle redirection rule still doesnt make it clear to me why double edged sword damages twice if you attack directly with Ohime
Tag duel ruling question : If I normal summon Robina and declare it’s effect, can my teammate declare his own banished Toccan, and we order the chain links of Robina’s and Toccan’s effects as we wish ? I specifically ask this because two can play at that game
Definitely love the ruling content coder! I would love to see like a "Master Duel Ruling Misconceptions" video. I feel like a lot of people play MD have not played the TCG really and there are some common card interactions that MD players get wrong or forget all the time!
First time I've watched a vid of yours in like a year because before the vibes were just really negative and passive aggressive like how Yacine is now, Def prefer this and will keep watching if u keep it up
I guess this is a good compromise between those DB ruling videos and the ruling thirst of the community.
So cool ! Love this content. It help us learning specific ruling you encounter some times. keep up the good work my friend.
Another way to look at the damage redirection is to classify the damage differently. Its only battle damage when it comes from a monster battling. The redirected damage is burn damage, so can't be redirected by this effect.
letss goooooo rulingsss, yugioh is a rulings based game,, thank you coder for clarifying some of these rulings..
we all want more rulings videos in the future :D
Yessssss. I’ve been waiting forever for more Judge content 😃😃
you either met a really pretty girl, or a really attractive gay person, because your drip is actually becoming insanely good.
Yes absolutely want more of this ❤
In all honesty i was sad when you said you would stop doing them
Its one of the main things i liked about your channel personally
Youre very informative mr. coder!!! I like the ruling content.
Ruling videos were my favorite, glad to see that you want to bring them back
Love to see the series back, now if you return the quiz show where you ask yugitubers rulings about their pet deck I will be over the moon.
First Coder video I've watched in a long while. This is the kind of content I watched for.
I got into rulings thanks to your content, it is my personal favorite type of content you make. I like testing random interactions in master duel, some of them I put in my channel if you want to check it out, not trying to promote my channel, I just get really excited about niche interactions and want to share the joy with others who are like me.
Havent watched you in a long time but im watching this and liked the vid :) LFG
This is the most minor detail, but I find it funny that it still says quote tweets in the thumbnail even though they changed what it's called. Banger though, tweets will always be tweets.
Yes! I hope were going to take judge calls again soon
Nice hair cut btw coder
Yes more plz. Also the ruling quizzes for other streamers and stuff was great
Got a question you are being hit by rollback and you are able to go to transcended dragion which it's effect is that you can change all monsters to face up attack does it resolve?
1. Fuck yeah ruling questions are back!
2. Fresh ass hair cut dude!
I would have laugh so hard on the last question if you just said minkako are 0 atk monster and yubel are also 0 atk monster therefore no dmg is taken from any side 😅. Tldr of that interaction though is who ever control the big monster take the dmg.
10:09 It's this type of stuff that helps me trust what you say, 'cause you actually do your research.
Please keep making this kind of content. I’ve missed these videos so much.
Yes, i do want to see more of this. i enjoyed watching ruling questions because it helps me learn more about what happens in between steps of attck and what to do if it happens in a dule agents my friends
I love this content personally. I really enjoy getting into the nitty gritty of how cards interact in yugioh and magic.
Can we get a ruling on the haircut?
I say it looks great! But all my opponents say it’s only looks good.
Ah yes. flip effects are activated on the after of the start of after damage calculation.
