Love your content! Rasputins eyes have always sent a shiver up my spine. They're so deepest and a hallow. He looks like he's wearing a mask. And he peers INTO the camera and almost through the photo, when everyone else just seems to be looking AT the camera instead, and almost unfocused.
Rasputin is portrayed like a real human being in this documentary, I appreciate that. Addressing both the good and the bad parts of historical figures seems important to me.
I enjoyed this video very much. 🙏 I’m a Russian who’s ashamed to admit that my knowledge about the Russian Revolution is very poor. A month ago, I decided to change this about myself. I started the lazy way, by watching a three hour documentary (in my mother tongue). It was completely fascinating! I saw many parallels between then and now. Sidenote, your video about Rasputin corroborated many points conveyed in the doco. I think it’s helpful when things align from different sources. Or at least it’s helpful to me in this world. 🌍
Rasputin wasn’t illiterate. Not only is there still extant letters between him & the czarina, he would have learned to read & write when he became heavily involved with the Russian Orthodox Church.

That was fascinating...must admit, when my father got me the Hammer Horror DVD boxset a few years back none of the films really connected with me...except for the one about Rasputin (The Mad Monk, 1966) with Sir Christopher Lee. Can't say how accurate it was to this version of events but I do remember it being very enjoyable...highly recommend it if anyone's looking for some more Rasputin!! That parliament had effectively no power, and Nicholas II disbanded it at the first point of contention. Just figured to say that despite the fact that the people were rebelling, he wasn't in any real danger up until the rise of the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks about 10 or so years later Edit: Still a great video though, keep up the good work!
also special mention to historian Simon Seabag Montefiore - his biography of the Romanovs also portrayed Rasputin in a similar way - holistically analysing the vulnerabilities of the Romanovs at the time and even portrays the times when Rasputin genuinely provided a sense of peace or solace to a royal family that was slowly losing touch with their people, their ability to rule and their growing despair over poor Alexei's condition. also, Alexei had several other bleeds later on - it may well be that this whole 'healing' was a fortunate culmination of events - all speculation, coincidence, or nothing at all.
