  • Strasburg Railroad #90 and #89 7-8-2022.
While traveling to see some things in Pennsylvania, we stopped by to film the Strasburg Railroad once again.
Power for today's trains was going to be (I'll explain later):
ex. GWR 2-10-0 "Decapod" #90 (regular trains)
ex. CNR 2-6-0 "Mogul" #89 (Great Diamond Heist)
I've already covered 90 in two previous videos, so I'll just talk 89.
89 was built in 1910 by the Canadian Locomotive Company as an E-10 2-6-0 "Mogul" type locomotive for the Grand Trunk Railroad as number 1009. While her career was kind of unknown, she probably spent most of her time hauling freight. Nine years later, 1009 was renumbered to 911. Four years later, the Grand Trunk was merged with other railroads to form the Canadian National Railroad. In 1951, CNR renumbered the 911 to 89, then ten years later, she was retired. That same year, F. Nelson Blount bought the locomotive and eventually ran it on the Green Mountain Railway, then in 1972, she was purchased by the Strasburg Railroad, and has been pulling many happy passengers through the Amish farmlands ever since.
The reason the engines swapped was because of the fact 90 had a small mechanical issue. However, she was fixed and despite the locomotive swap, the trains ran as usual.
