Maria, I enjoyed your reaction of this very sober and emotional song. I am also a veterans wife and have several family members who also served. Even though my husband and I have been together for 20 years now I am just now learning about some of the things he witnessed while on combat duty.
I am a huge Home Free fan so my poor hubby hears me listening to their music & others reactions to it almost daily. I am so glad to have found you and your joining the Home Fries fan club with your reactions. As to the haters you mentioned the other day: block them, don't give them the attention they are craving, and know you are a beautiful person!

Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

This song was inspired by the Falklands War. In this song, Mark Knopfler writes about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away.

The common thing between this and Helplessly Hoping is that they're both 5-part harmony! 👍 It really does make a difference when Adam sings. ❤🤯

Ethereal. Haunting. Gut wrenching. Soul stirring. Angelic. The only thing missing was the seraphic choir backing them up.
Excuse me while I track down my soul and stuff it back into my body...

FYI - those reactors who did wait, all said after they'd seen Mayday that now they understood and were glad they had done so. HFs version of "Brothers in Arms" is so powerful - there is no discernable beatboxing (but Adam may have done wind imitations), the singing & harmonies are impeccable..

Home Free's 5-part harmonies often have a very signature 'church organ' effect. Especially if Tim and Chance double base. The videographer very effectively used the window reflection to create ghost-like imagery. Home Free has a number of patriotic songs, each with its own personality, message.

The capability of excellence by each of the individuals in this group is off the charts awesome that allows them the flexibility to do so many types of vocalizations and to do it exceptionally well. I have not found a genre they are afraid to tackle whether individually or as a group they are amazing. Then top that off with their arrangements that augment the presentation to be "Home Free" owned. ❣

Mark Knopler of Dire Straits wrote this song in 1984 in response to the Falkland War in 1982. It has a beautiful guitar solo in it. The Finnish a capella group Club For Five arranged it for a capella (Incredible since this is so guitar-based.) Club For Five graciously allowed Home Free to use their arrangement, with Tim adding only the echoes. A capella masterpiece.

I have always been a fan of this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. I love that they don't overproduce their songs. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.

  • @melissakay6143

This was haunting to me. The video showed almost the guys looking like ghosts or see-thru. Yes, our military are so precious to me too. I decided I was ready for "Mayday" when I could close my eyes and know who's voice was who's. It sounds like you can do that now. So I voted no on your poll, sorry and am changing my vote to YES. Go for it 🎉 I'll be watching that reaction and all your others to come! Stay frosty!

Hey kiddo - Just saw your "short" rant on blocking the creeps - people are SOOO stupid - and really, you just can't fix "STUPID"! I appreciate your vitality, spunk and just being you!! The last time I looked - no one is perfect and that includes this 72 (almost 73) grand pa who's seen a lot and been through a hell-uv-a-lot in his life time but I don't let the jerks slow me down... You make this old man laugh and that's why I became a sub to your channel. I am an unashamed Home Free Fanatic - been to three of their concerts and was able to get a VIP ticket to meet them last year in Atlanta.
They are who they say they are - 5 guys that just love to sing and have fun. I look forward to each time you react to them...I know - my wife loves them more than me but what can I do??? Not a darn thing but I guess she can dream huh?? LOL!
Keep doing what you're doing friend and I'll be right behind you!!

This was a good reaction. For a more lighthearted take, try All About That Bass or Working For a Living. If you are ready for some HF original music, try the gorgeous love songs Whats Left Of My Heart, Understand, or the Stargazer Trilogy.

About Mayday… I usually advise reactors to wait until they can recognise each HF member, pick out their voice and know their usual role in within the group. And when they feel they know the guys well enough, then it’s time for Mayday.
Edited to say: After this, I think you might be ready for it

I really really think you are ready now for Mayday you know the guys and ranges very well now no reason to wait anymore. When you do react to Mayday you will understand why it is so special.
I also think you would like God Bless The USA Home Free ft Lee Greenwood and United States Air Force Band

I don't know if anyone warned you that this song is the story of a wounded soldier slowly dying after his comrads do not abandon him after the battle.
I cried the first time I heard it.

Yes, I think you're ready for "Mayday". If memory serves me correctly, this was released around Memorial Day, 2021. You also need to do "My Church", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "In the Blood", and "How Great Thou Art". Chance has a slightly smaller range than Tim (only 4 octaves), so he can take over the bass when Tim is on lead without any trouble.

I’ve been subscribed since your first 2 HF vids & you are most definitely ready for Mayday & I’m ready for your reaction to it ! In response to your channel’s question, I’m not sure why you’re reacting but I’m damn sure enjoying that you are !! Also, please tell your “southern beach bum vet” husband thanks for his service ! 🇺🇸

This is one of those Home Free performances that make them truly unique. It's one of my favorites although I get emotional every single time I listen. Excellent and appropriate reaction to this one. It's always fun to follow Brothers in Arms with something fun and upbeat. There are plenty of those. 🙂

Yep, you are a Home Fry now. 🙂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You get it- they all have spectacular voices, tight harmonies, and they each get to shine! They are also very patriotic, and deeply respect the military.
While I enjoy hearing a song now and then from other acapella groups, there is no other group in which I truly love.
I am so glad that you are a Home Fry now. ❤

Hauntingly beautiful. Tim goes so low. Love the echoes and the black and white look of the film. I have soldiers in my family too. If you like Chance, try I Can’t Outrun You, Some Girls Do, Cover Me Up, Yours and of course Skull & Bones (which he wrote). Some talented boys. 😍

Lots of people can sing low notes but, few can do it with such rich resonance. That "smoothness' you spoke of was Tim's resonance. Well done, Maria.

If you like metal, Babymetal a mashup of J-pop and metal. Sounds weird but they are great in my opinion, and the opinion of millions more. Sabaton, a Swedish band that sings about historical military events. Just a suggestion.
