Okay, okay --message received. We normal plant people are NOT bored with this Hoya 🤣Keep those comments comin', y'all. Love hearing stories about your 'Sunrise' 😁
Are you krazy?!! Thank you so much, H !! Getting to know you has been one of the most delightful surprises of this year. (Now don't kill my plants...... )
My favorite Mom & Pop nursery has the Hoya Sunrise at such a great price so I bought a couple of them and potted them together. I fell in love with it when I saw it. Can’t imagine why it fell out of the limelight but I’m glad I didn’t pay through the nose for it! Yours is gorgeous!
It is Oct. 2024 and I have been watching you talk about the H. Sunrise in your ranking videos. It made me remember to put it on my wishlist so when Gabriella Plants added it to a weekly update I snatched up a 4 inch pot for 24.99. I just received it yesterday and it traveled so well!! It's all green of course because I'm in Upstate NY and our temperatures are dropping so all of my collection is inside now under grow lights but I can't wait for next summer to get some wonderful sunstress. Thank you for highlighting some of these wonderful Hoyas I might have been too scared to try otherwise.
The sunrise was one of my first hoyas I purchased getting started in my hoya journey. I like it as much today as when I bought it. The stressed leaves are an eye catcher. I have taken many cuttings from mine to keep it at a manageable size especially when I have a lot of hoyas and limited space. Yours looks amazing. Great video.
I'm new to the hoya scene and this is definitely on my birthday wishlist. Watched Fern repot that stunning Queen as well. And as Plants with Krystal would say, "Gotta shimmy that shoil". 😉
Hey Dave! I am so jealous! What a beautiful hoya! I'm on my third Sunrise. The first two were small cuttings with some sun stress but they died, root rot. I have a full one now a year and a half old and it's as green as the day I got it! Its in a west facing window, has tendrils and not growing much. As a matter of fact I am going to take out of the macrame hanger now and check it thoroughly. I might need to take out of meds and replace with a soil mix. Thanks for sharing! Look forward to your next! Dee, NY
Hi, Dee! Not that you asked ... but that won't stop me 🤣 I have kick-started many a Hoya with taking a cutting and propping that. Often times those go gangbusters while the "mother" plant sits there doing nothing 🤨. Cheers from Iowa!
I've just recently been thinking of getting this one. I don't care about trends. I like what I like, and yours is a beauty. Yeah, I've been learning on my own that this whole letting 'any' plant dry out is a bad thing. At best mine didn't grow at all, but normally it ended badly. Now, I water my succulents & cactus regularly and well too.
I hope you do get one--absolutely the most underrated plant in the Hoya world (my oh-so-humble opinion 🤣🤣🤣). During the winter it gets, basically, all late morning and afternoon sun. It's now fading back a bit on those long vines because we have a very shaded yard in the Spring and summer, so quite a lot less direct sun. But the crown gets grow lights. I've heard it postulated that colder temperatures also aid in sun stressing, but for me it's probably those long hours of direct exposure. Cheers from Iowa 😀
I ordered a cutting off Etsy about 2 months ago. It's rooted and putting out new growth points. I can't wait until the day it's as big and beautiful as yours.
I hope you find one quickly. If memory serves (ha ha), I only paid ten or fifteen bucks for my starter. Definitely the best money I've spent per square inch of plant 🤣😂🤣
I am so happy this beautiful living plant found its way to you! They must love living with you! Yours by far is the best I have ever ever seen and Love the back story! I love this plant, I have 2….bout bought a few before that…..first Hoya I ever ordered on line but a 2 leaf cutting…..killed it. 2nd killed, and still have the last 2! One has a potential to turn into like yours……other is not as fruitful. Wow this video blew my mind thanks!
Wow--this gracious comment blows my mind! Thanks so much for taking the time 😀 In ep3 I started with H. 'Jennifer,' a plant that was growing really slowly, so I chopped and propped it, and now have those coming out of my ears.... I have often found that taking a prop is the way to go. Either way, she'll come around, no doubt. Cheers from Iowa 😁
Ahhhh! The butter knife. Luckily, there always seems to be an abundance… 😂 Thank you again for your thoughtful chats. I learned and lived, laughed and loved.
Wow ❤ that is a beautiful full plant. The color I’m in love with it. Thank you for the video. Would you mind making a video explaining and showing all the different terms you use when describing things about the Hoyas. Also more info on vines, leaves, the trellis importance etc. I’m new to Hoya. And any information would help. Thank you in advance.
I got my Sunrise in a 4" pot last fall. This spring it bloomed for the first time. And then it bloomed again on the same peduncles plus new ones! Recently took about five cuttings from it and rooted them. This past weekend, I combined the original and the rooted cuttings into a 5" terracotta pot. It's full and fluffy and about 30% sun-stressed. I don't necessarily follow trends. I grow what I like. And I really like Hoya Sunrise! I've seen some vendors list Hoya Sunrise Thai form. Is it actually different?
I was at a huge Hoya sale last week and someone asked me which plant I couldn't' live without. Yep. Hoya 'Sunrise.' And yes, I've seen that "Thai form" and I'm calling malarky. 'Sunrise' is H lacunosa ssp. pallidiflora x Hoya obscura, hybridized by Michael Miyashiro. That's it. There cannot be "another" Hoya 'Sunrise,' unless you include 'Tequila Sunrise,' which is an entirely different cultivar. But those sellers are listing their Thai version as a lacunosa x obscura cross, soooo. Typical sellers trying to get more money with a name change. Guess I got that off my chest 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much! Is there enough stem to take a prop from it? I've often kick-started a Hoya by doing that. The props go nuts, while the "mother" plant just sort of hangs around 🙃 Best to you
Your sunrise is absolutely gorgeous. A quick question, I have tried to grow my Krimson Queen and Princess in a hanging basket because I really like the look of Hoya in a hanging basket. Buy they seem to prefer to climb. How do you get your Sunrise to hang so beautifully?
Hi, there--and thank you. I wish I could take credit, but the 'Sunrise' just naturally does that hanging thing really well. When the new vines form, they very, very quickly just start bend over. I grow my Carnosa 'Exotica' has a hanger, and it takes the weight of the leaves to eventually pull down the vine. Cheers from Iowa 😀
You need to make video telling us how to care for Hoya’s because mine are in shambles. They are all dying , I’ve stopped collecting them because they just don’t do well for me anymore 😭😭
It could be that I just have conditions here that suit Hoya? But I feel you--I will never try to make any velvet leaved Philodendron work here. "Shambles" is a good word. Dead as doornails is more accurate, though 🤣😂🤣
As gorgeous as they are, I don't have a compact. My general advice for *any* plant with nooks and crannies would be to stay on top of pest-prevention. I think in my next video I'll be showing my DIY spray. Works a charm ☠
Hmm. The actual H. 'Sunrise' was hybridized here in the States, H. lacunosa ssp. pallidiflora x obscure. Not sure what that would be. I'm curious though! 😀
@@Horsewoman-pt2ku I don't. I usually use FB. But if you see something specific you're interested in, you can always email me at soberplantguy@gmail.com. That's email is always in my "about" section in the description. Cheers from Iowa 😀
Hi, Paul. It gets some late morning/and then afternoon sun. Direct for hours a day during the Fall/winter, and dappled throughout the summer. Also, sits under a trio of Barrina strip lights (10w each). So, a LOT of light. It's in normal household conditions. Which is freakin' cold during the winter 🤣 Cheers!

That’s the most beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen.
I’m currently growing out 2 4” pots, it’s definitely a favorite.😍 Thanks for sharing!
I bet yours will rival it soon enough! Thanks much ☺️
I've had my eye out for a Sunrise for a long time but it's like hen's teeth in my corner of the world.
So beautiful! 😍
Ah, thanks much ☺ Do you already have the H. obscura, or is it available to you? Equally great, equally a fast grower (for me). Cheers from Iowa!
