    Hi Jag, I got a fig tree from Walmart last year. It was pretty much a stick. I planted it, it's in a super sunny spot. It's in a spot that it will be able to grow. Where I live, there's loads of rain especially in the summer. It's growing well. I just took it out of the wrapping paper dug a hole and planted it. It's doing well, lots of leaves and it's looking healthy.

    My neighbor has a fig tree and the branches are over the fence so I might steal some cuttings and make my own. I also water her fig tree. 😁

    Another great video, lots of clear information. Here in UK we usually restrict the root growth of fig trees to encourage them to fruit more as we don't get very many days with 12-14 hours of sunshine. Many thanks for a lovely video.

The tree is 6 years old and since I put the large pot outside it has 10 figs growing. It is warm 70+ in S.C. this time of year and I have full sun all day long! Should I move it to part shade?

    I heard that you shouldn't put fertilizers on the first year b/c you want to slow grow the roots for the first year or two. Adding fertilizers can cause fast height & leaf growth, faster than root growth.

    We are in zone 9b with mostly mild Winters SW Arizona. Our Brown Turkey & Pinache Tiger are 4-5 years old and still only 4 feet tall. Have taken cuttings 3 of each all are doing very well. Question: How far do these tree's roots spread? And how deep do the roots grow? According to your video I guess I can take the berm away & just dig deeper around the trees - correct? Of course with lots of mulch so here in this heat (it was 100 degrees today APRIL 26, 2022 - can you believe it?) the soil will be protected from drying out too fast. Judi

    Hi Jag, I followed your steps to plant fig tree from a branch and I covered it with plastic as you said. My question to you is, I should leave it covered like that for one week? This means I will not water it for a week?

    • @DaisyCreekFarms
      @DaisyCreekFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's correct. Water good before covering and the plastic will retain moisture. Place in a shaded area, not in sun, if the soil appears to dry out, you can water once by taking the plastic off and putting it back on but I haven't had the need to do this.

    If you want great tasting figs....don’t water fig trees when their fruiting. Fig actually like dry places.
    “Growing conditions
    Fig thrives best in areas of moderate relative humidity and can be grown at higher elevations in areas of low rainfall. Fig requires some dry months, particularly at the flowering and fruiting periods and some sources, state that they require some winter chilling. They are light demanding plants and will grow best with 8 hours or more of direct sunlight. Fig can grow in virtually any soil type but prefer a sandy-clay loam within a pH range of 6.0 to 8.0 tolerating soils with high lime content. A soil depth of 1 - 1.5 m is sufficient for growth. Figs can also grow in rocky areas from sea level to 1,700 meters.” I grow Golden Riverside & BM kk.

      I stay in a country with 97% humidity. I followed videos advising not to water the fig trees too often ..I watered mine once every 2 days, HUGE MISTAKE!!!... Did it for 2 weeks all my fig fruits stated to drop off from my trees, rusting on leaves got worst, new leaves were smaller in size and looked miserable .. Then immediately I up the water to 6 times per day after a week the leaves looks much happier..
