Anchor Mrudula graduated in computer maintenance and was trained both in hardware and software. Jobs from leading IT companies came her way. Yet she found her true calling elsewhere.
Mrudula Iyengar excelled in the spotlight in front of the camera, and over the years, the anchor quietly and steadily carved a niche for herself in the Telugu television industry. It was while studying at Loyola College that the Mahabubnagar-born Mrudula took her first tentative steps towards the glamour industry. “I was just 17 and at the behest of friends, I went for an audition sure that I would not make it. But then, as is said, Providence came up with its own designs and I got selected,” she says. Thus Prema Kosam happened. The live show on Gemini TV struck the right notes with viewers and topped the popularity charts.
Mrudula stayed with Telugu television even while doing her MCA at Villa Marie College in Hyderabad. From Vanita TV and NTV to Zee Telugu and Maa TV and TV9 to Tollywood Live, she played host to a host of successful shows with most hitting the top of popularity charts.
Maa TV’s Maa Voori Vanta, Good Morning on Tollywood channel and Bhakti Samacharam on Zee Telugu are some of her current shows. Mrudula rates Adirindi as her favorite. “The set up was beautiful and I had colorful Lambadi attire and lots of bangles,” she laughs.
The big screen did beckon, but it failed to interest her. “I am not that crazy about movies. Even for television shows, I insist on the right and decent costume and script.” Last year, Mrudula tied the knot with singer Krishna Chaitanya. “Though [it was] a marriage arranged by our parents, we knew each other for years. We both were training with Ramachari garu, and it was he who took the initiative and spoke to our parents,” reveals Mrudula.
