The harbour and city centre looked so much more peaceful till sky scrapers set in. Absolutely beautiful.
They're a symbol of what rules over us today.
The cars!! Wow! I spotted an MO series Morris Oxford. I bought one of these in 1982. It was my favourite car even though it was 30 years old when I got her. A beautiful old classic!
This is truly a rare piece of our history. How lucky we are to have a very few people who can love it. Even though the unappreciated innocence shown here is now becoming overwhelmed, it is still Australia's and, I think, the world's greatest city.

It’s funny for 8 years I lived in Sydney and couldn’t wait to get out of the place now in resent years I’ve lived back on the beautiful South Coast and thanks to the bushfires, Wuh@n Flu and lockdowns I’d really love to visit again. Watching this seeing trams running I think the monorail was still running and now it’s gone and what do you know we have a new extended light rail most of which I haven’t got to see let alone ride and from my understanding some of Darling Harbour has even been redeveloped. The changes of the place from even back as a kid in the 60s and 70s to now are mind blowing. Thanks for sharing this great little film. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

3:11 77 York Street The Grace Building built by Grace Bros late 1920's
from 1948 to around 1994 housed the York Street Telephone Exchange on the 1st floor. As the building was to be sold the infrastructure was relocated to the new Kent Street Telephone Exchange. All the telephone cables were removed from the building and the cable tunnel was bricked up. The same for the GPO which housed the Central Telephone Exchange which had become too small and was relocated to the Pitt Street Telephone Exchange. Same for the government offices building in Chifley Square when the building was sold off.

T AND G was magnificent. Look what they replaced it with. Same for Regent theatre, Anthony Horderns Paris Cinema. Etc.
Sydney is a beautiful and iconic city that I am proud of being born and raised in. However, in 2022 I am happy to live in Perth on the other side of the continent.
Wonderful. Other glimpses: T and G building (demolished) at Elizabeth and Park St. Broadway looking West from Railway Square. Oxford St and Flinders St looking West. Circular Quay pre Railway station and Cahill Expressway. Benelong Point pre Opera House.

@NFSA Films you did not include Haig and Boomerang avenues which were hastily removed in 1997 for the cook+Phillip Olympic pool! They are now 2x of ghost streets of Sydney and wollomolo.

The Opera House wouldn't debut until 1971, when I was born. Last September our family went there.

Sydney was such a beautiful city, until poor planning, over development and over crowding screwed the place up.
