As a mechanic, you won't get indicator lights for the hubs engage or disengageing. It's gonna be for the transfercase engagement. I'd check that manual linkage for the 4wd lever to transfer case to make sure it's actually fully engaging or disengageing as it sounds like it's not fully traveling or actuaiting allowing the gears to grind when half way point. These linkages can slip if cable or threads cam move if jamb nut becomes loose ,or cable stretching. Just something I'd be looking at.
Good suggestion. Amazing how hundreds of comments and only a few people with helpful solutions. They just want instant gratification...... if he fries an actuator or transfer case, or diff, he will be out thousands.
I can't remember exactly, since his van is a 4x4 conversion, but I know GM used diff actuators in the gmt-400, 800, 900, and some newer trucks. Not exactly sure if his van has it but they are definitely a headache. When they don't engage properly, in 4hi or 4lo, the front right axle doesn't engage. So, no 4wd. I've experienced this in an older Silverado I had but didn't have any grinder sounds. The grinding sounds more like a transfer case issue, like mentioned above.
That is an invaluable tip! I love to hear when mechanics chime in on issues seen in a video. I see it on some farming videos, related to tractors and equipment.
@@GeekyDad84 On these 4x4 Van conversions they generally use manually shifted transfer cases. There is still an axle disconnect system on the front differential but that does not sound like the issue. I agree with @posersk8er183 , it sounds like a linkage issue. Possibly a broken shift fork inside transfer case.
I find myself really needing to see that Rocko is ok after everything. Like just a “here she is, she’s fine.” I did hear her bark at the end so that was good
Rocko's "Woff" at the end was great!! The sites you capture with the drone are amazing! Thanks for doing it all.

I'm a fairly new subscriber. I went back and watched some of your old videos. Wow very impressive ,you're an amazing young man. And of course you have an awesome little dog . Safe travels thanks for showing us parts of Canada I will never see.
Simon your ability to capture such epic moments on your adventures is so impressive. The drone shots set your channel apart from all the rest. Great job my friend. Safe Travels Amigo
Rocky e Rocko she lives with this dude, he hikes and he skis and floats in a tube. he cooks a mean dish but he cant catch a fish!! sung to the Foresty Forest theme song
You know, he DID catch a fish in one episode several years ago. This past week, I have been trying to find that specific video, but no luck so far. I will let you know when I find it!
Another amazing Foresty adventure!! Thanks for the view of the bay where my cabin is to the North, it’s down the lake in the far bay, Esplanade. Will be there this weekend!!😃. Cheers man, stay safe out there you and Rocko.
When you snapped you boots in.. what a memory! There is something especially magical about this episode.. brought back beautiful memories, spring.. smells ect. I'm there ❤
What a life you live! I do a lot of the adventure stuff you do, and you still amaze me. I do wish I had a drone to do the mountain videos you do. It is the best footage of mountains I've ever seen. And I'm an artist who loves to look at mountains.
Simon, all I can say is, that was crazy and you did an incredible ride.!!!! Wow.😂Wow, Wow,Wow. I can't believe it. FF you are the man for sure I hope you get your van fixed. Great video. Thank you, Thank yoj
If it gets too steep or sketch, especially in the trees, I'll just leave my skins on for the descents too. You can still go pretty good. Thanks for the backcountry ski adventure and promotion. 👍🏼
Beautiful scenes. Good summit. Glad the stew was good. “Taking your taste buds to paradise.” Worthy quote in any restaurant review. Thanks for sharing.
I cannot imagine having the skill and lightning reactions to ski among those trees! It's terrifying and thrilling all at once. The footage of the nearby peaks that you took from the summit are astounding. They look soooo immense. I think my favorite part is seeing you almost pass out from the flavor of that burrito. Boy, I bet you slept well that night! Thanks so much for sharing your life with us. All fun and no hype.
Well done!! Especially nice to see you put your boots in the sleeping bag with you and Rocko. I cannot believe how many people don't do that. I cringe when I see hikers trying to put on frozen boots in the morning ... imagine what the first mile on the trail is like ...
One of those 'sun ovens' can also be used as a dehydrator. There are plenty of DIY 'sun oven' vids, I'm sure. But, that is GREAT to hear!......that you'll be dehydrating foods, in the near future. TIP: Start saving your glass jars (store-bought; pickles, pasta sauce, ect). Not only to store your dehyd veg in, but also to put/make your MREs in.
Glad to see another video to help brighten my day, Hope you're doing well Foresty ! Seems like if you own a vehicle these days, it's always needing something. Hope the van stays trouble free for you. Take Care, Thanks for the awesome Canadian content, and you are living as close to free as you possibly can in this country. Respect!
Fore-resty Forest sporting a new teal colored down coat and looking good !! And sounding like a Ninja when putting on your backpack. I can't wait long enough till summer weather arrives, but I don't mind the cold snow if its a Fore-resty Forest video. And Rocco #64 !!...until the next one.
Holy moly, I want a burrito so badly now! That is not what I was expecting from a Foresty Forest video, but it's better than the heebie jeebies I get from acrophobia by proxy.
There's nothing better than that chewy, steamy tortilla.. 😋 I love the pan toast of the burrito as well. I used to cut it in half, place in shallow plate, a few tortilla chips dripped with water alongside, add [my pref hanañero] the hottest salsa from this Mexican market all over, nuke for a minute or two. Omgaaahhhhd, talk about a scrumptious stretched out meal. Mind you, the burro was well loaded in the first place, so easy to portion into two decadent parcels of pure joy. I'm wayyyyyy overdue. Sigh. Cheers to delicious food. ❤❤❤
thanks again for the great trip, It was really fun to come down , I am not crazy about the climbing up, even if it is not any effort on my part, Thankful you did not get hurt on the fall. God Bless you always,
A man who loves his privacy and goes deep into the woods to find it and looks back and there are 75,000 people tagging along behind him 😱🙃 A John Muir of the 21st Century! ⏳
Hunger is truly the best relish. I always remember how much I enjoyed a bowl of mac and cheese my brother made for the group after a vigorous day hike.
The front hubs might need to be disengaged by switching to 2wd and then driving in reverse 20 feet or so. Had to do that in some older versions of 4wd to disengage.
I'll sing your intro out loud, it's EPIC! And wonderfully short! Thanx for another great video. I cruise through Golden once in a while, I'm gonna scout out that burrito joint, thanx for the hot tip.

The front hubs might need to be disengaged by switching to 2wd and then driving in reverse 20 feet or so. Had to do that in some older versions of 4wd to disengage.
I think most vehicles are like 7ft but you're right. Auto locking hubs should be driven in reverse
