    It should be swing states that award delegates first.

    It makes sense to kick off the primaries in a group of states that better reflects the diversity of the country as a whole.

      South Carolina is the exact opposite though. South Carolina democratic voters are overwhelmingly African American. Maybe they should do multiple ones at the same time that , in aggregate, reflect the diversity.
      Biden is asking for SC because he was struggling until he reached SC. His support weakens outside of the South

      O M G. Are you a bot or are you serious? No way people believe this propoganda. This was an act of blatant corruption by the DNC to rig the primaries for Biden. It's not even covert. It's blatantly obvious. And then corporate media covers it in a positive light instead of criticizing how undemocratic this move was. IT IS ESTABLISHMENT VS THE PEOPLE.

    Seems like Nevada is the obvious choice to hold the first Democratic primary. Nevada is more diverse than Iowa, and unlike South Carolina Nevada is actually a swing state.

    • @deborahfreedman333
      @deborahfreedman333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Nevada is half non-white, but California is 2/3 non-white, so is more diverse than Nevada. It is the best choice for first state, and deserves to go first, because it has the most voters.

    • @stevezelaznik5872

      @@deborahfreedman333 California does have the most voters. As somebody who sides with the Democrat coalition, I also want to make sure we pick a candidate that can win the electoral college. I’d rather voters in a crucial swing state make that decision.
      For example when Hillary Clinton lost Wisconsin and Michigan in the 2016 primary that should have been a flashing red warning light for what could happen in the general election.

    Yes, they should change which states go first, but it should not be South Carolina, just to pander to one voting group. The Electoral College is unfair to more populated states, and not having the first primaries, in the states with the most voters, compounds that inequity. California is both the most populated state, and very diverse as it is only a third white. We have to stop pretending the only non-white people, in this country, are black. There are many minorities in the US, and California has them all, in decent numbers, including Native Americans, Hispanics and Asians. You cannot say that about South Carolina,. California is thus, far more diverse state than any South Carolina. *Be fair and have the first primary in California* ! (BTW I don't live in California, I just think it would be right.)

    • @gnirolnamlerf593
      @gnirolnamlerf593 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's say someone like Tim Ryan of Ohio (who lost to Vance four weeks ago, but is a moderate Democrat who might appeal to independents all across the country) wants to run in 2024. Do you have the $150 million to give him to run a presidential primary campaign in California? Could I ask for some of that before you shower him with the rest of your largesse? If you don't have a way to set up a pro-Ryan (or any other relative unknown) PAC to the tune of $150,000,000, how would you give Cong. Ryan a chance in California that he or some other candidate deserves? Public financing of campaigns? That has as much chance of happening as the elimination of the Electoral College.
      That's why you start with states that have a population of five million, three million, and 1.4 million, not with one that has nearly 40 million people in it. SC is 26% African American and otherwise mostly European American. NH is 92% European American. Nevada is 30% Hispanic American, 11% African American, and 9% Asian American, with a scattering of other non-White ethnic groups, making it a diverse "majority minority" state, and one that teeters between Democrats and Republicans in statewide elections. (The voters there just elected a Republican governor and Democratic senator by small margins.) Then you add in larger and equally diverse swing states, like Georgia and Michigan.
      Um...what more do you want?
      If Biden runs again, he will almost certainly win SC easily. But that will get him no momentum, because he will be expected to win SC easily. If he is defeated or almost defeated there, he will face pressure to drop out, like LBJ did after almost losing the NH primary in 1968. Don't expect him to be held under 50%, as LBJ was, however, but he will still have to prove himself against intra-party opponents, if they emerge to challenge him, in NV and NH. I would suggest that Mr. Biden, a) wants Iowa out of the first slot, particularly since Iowa Democrats, sad to say, don't seem to have a really good handle on how to run a caucus, but refused to institute a primary instead; and b) wants to reward Cong. Clyburn for his help in 2020. In other words, why SC instead of some other smallish Republican state? Jim Clyburn. But I can't see any reason why Mississippi or Arkansas, for example, should be first, if you want a smallish state in the South instead of Iowa to go first. And you do want to pay attention to the South (sorry, Bernie, but you can't dismiss them as irrelevant, as you did in 2016) because you need to gain victories in VA, NC, and GA (Florida has become a hopeless case again for the Dems) in 2024 if you want an Electoral College mandate, not a bare majority, since NY, PA, IL, MI among other Northern states and even CA are losing electoral votes.

    Past time for Dems to make a primary calendar that allows early participation by AA voters, who are the swing voters in the Dem primary. In 2020 Dems could have easily wound up with Sanders as the nominee while he was not the preferred candidate of the majority of the party. If Biden had just dropped out, as many candidates do, the party would have wound up with someone who was not the actual party's choice.

      You forgot to mention that they could have bargained away their $160,000 future annual salaries for more sick days. Suppose they had agreed to an increase up to $145,000 instead and traded the $15,000 a year (or some other amount) for sick days. I have no idea what the obscenely rich CEO's of the rail companies would have said, but considering that $145,000 is double the average salary of an American worker... Of course, they deserve the sick days. The question is whether they deserve the $160,000 transporting food while people providing millions with food at McWalBucks can't get $30,000 a year guaranteed. Unfortunately, nearly everyone is happy that billionaires can become billionaires. The billionaires have convinced most of the rest of us that they must be particularly intelligent, creative and dedicated to the good of the nation to have accumulated that amount of money. Any proof of that? In America, when push comes to shove, and you can only have one, sick days don't actually matter. Only the accumulation of money does. We seem to have forgotten that "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil."

      Paul: Because the only thing that counts in the USA these days is money and news shows make money when they talk about elections and politics. At least MSNBC doesn't dwell on 2020. News Divisions have long since ceased to be allowed to be loss leaders. They are expected to make money, just like RuPaul's Drag Race, NCIS and Monday Night Football. By talking about 2024 is how they make money in 2022. To be fair, MSNBC gives plenty nof coverage to other news besides 2024 politics. I mean, the avoidance of a rail strike was covered and is certainly a matter of the here and now. The war in Ukraine is certainly of the year 2022 (and sadly, 2023, at least).
