  • From adobe walled kiln to fired pottery in one video. This is an example of an Anasazi trench kiln, slightly modified. We have had some success firing pottery this way and it seems to be, only getting better. We take our failures as a lesson and move on. The clay humbles us and we invite you on this humble journey through time! Thank you for watching and please consider purchasing our products on the website to support our content, and as a collectible investment! Yakoke! Thank you!

Oh man this is the video I've been excited to see for a while! How cool! Even had some snow to surprise things! Any idea what contributed to that warm-up cracking? Shame that happened, but wow the results sure are great!!! That took such a long time to cool down too. I think you got it pretty dialed in there with those results!

Our temper was too fine. Extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations made condensation on the inside of the pots. They are all made out of the same clay body. Bigger temper and a better preheat method are our solutions. Thanks for watching!

Wow, I have never seen cracking like that in the preheating. It must need more temper is all I can guess. You did get some decent reduction and as long as you learned something it was a positive experience. Keep up the good work.

I think we learned everything we needed to know in this firing and we have a new similar theory about bulk firing! Thanks for watching, Sir!

You can not use them maybe, but they are still beautiful
Thank you! I will check the website.... If I find something I would like to buy, is it possible to ship them to Europe? I live in Sweden

Ive had pre-heat cracking like that before on some ring pots I made. I was preheating over the tandoor. It got too hot too fast and there was steam coming out the tops 😵‍💫. After that I went back to using the oven to preheat. Ive changed my clay and my temper since then so maybe it would be ok next time. Anyway that was a great video. I loved seeing the snow, we are heading for 94oF/34oC today.

Ms. B, I am convinced that we had the same exact thing happen, but we are adding more sand to our temper and more coarse grog as well. Thank you, we are going to dehydrate them next time because our oven was too small for those pots! Enjoy the warmth! Thank you for the wonderful comment as well!

Nice video... Sorry about the pots, however some of my favorite flint knapping pieces are the ones that have flaws. I liked the designs . Thanks for sharing the entire process

This was a great video. I really like the you showed the whole process. Would love to see your kiln set up and wish I had the space for something like that. Lots to learn but you are definitely getting there. It is so much more difficult than people realize. BTW - check the URL for your web site, it didn't work for me.

Thanks Wes, We got the Link fixed. A few more adjustments to our technique and we should have some good blacks and whites, with a few fire clouds for authenticity. Thanks again for giving it a watch!

I blame the snow,... it may have been better 3 or even 4 days later, maybe next time.
