On the basis that Tae asked us to listen to the album in order of the track list. There is the obvious interpretation that the songs are about the stages of a break with someone - ‘Rainy Days’ just before it ends. ‘Blue’ the ending of the relationship as she moves to California and so wants Tannie back. ‘Love Me Again, realising he still wants the relationship and reflecting what went wrong. ‘Slow Dancing’, escaping the misery and dreaming about being happier and reminiscing about the relationship whilst he waits. ‘For Us’, the realisation the they are in separate location and they both still want the relationship and will wait for the other because he is a singer and always on the road. I see another interpretation that also fits. This is about V’s life and his relationship with army. ‘Rainy Days’ which is him (Tae) going about his normal life and missing performing in front of army, as BTS are on a hiatus and where Tannie would be present. Also the lyrics fit the idea that as there was a lot of hate and scandals about him over the last year (thinking about you - army, what to say, wish I knew how to find my way back to…). ‘Blue’ where he is V of BTS the shining idol, looking for someone and feeling blue as he will be away during military service. He also wants to get his dog back and be back to his real self. Tannie being featured is also key as he will be missing him when he enlists. ‘Love Me Again’ highlights V of BTS, the shining idol, glammed out performing and how he is missing someone/army? Asking army to love him again as scandals switched off some fans? Even a prelude to being worried that the enlistment for a long period could mean army could loose interest in him/BTS. ‘Slow Dancing’, where he is dreaming a calm, peaceful life but it’s just a dream and he wakes up and is back with ‘tannie’. Here it’s Tae and not the shining idol. ‘For Us’, the MV is an epilogue, meaning conclusion. Based on the lyrics and his outfits, this fits the relationship with someone interpretation as they are both living apart and still want a relationship, that they are prepared to wait for each other. This works when you think that V (storyline character) is an artist always on the road which would affect the relationship and the realisation that it’s can’t work. In the interpretation of V and army, this is him wrapping up his album with this final song, the epilogue, giving you memories of all the songs and MV’s. Here he is showing us the glamorous images of V the shining Idol and also when he is just Tae. He told us that he wanted to show a part of who he is as a person and what he likes on this album. So we get the stage persona and his real persona being shown to army and lyrically telling us that he has to go, he wishes he could stay, come before it’s too late, I got things to say before I go etc… this together with the amount of content he is putting out is almost a poignant goodbye to army before he enlists. The large amount of content that he is leaving for fans, to tide them over while he is away doing his military service. Remember the tattoo on his neck from the ON era, at the time he told us that army makes up theories to BTS songs, so he did the tattoo in order for us to come up with one about the tattoo. Also, BTS are known for making music that can have multiple interpretations and it’s so like V to do it, being the creative artist he is. Tae has told us the concept of ‘Layover’ and that this album is the first ‘Layover’, that he will try different genres in future albums until he reaches his final destination. The ending of this album with ‘For Us’ really makes me think that the next ‘layover’ is the military service and then we will get more ‘layovers’ aka solo music (or acting?) on his return until he gets to his final destination. Multiple storylines in one cohesive album. An album where its aim was to show us what Tae likes musically and make us scratch our heads about the storylines. For me, this album is going to be on repeat and I really want a live version of this album because these types of songs are perfect to change up in live performances, as we saw in the Tiny Desk performance. And once again vocally flawless especially in all of his live performances, they sounded even better than the studio version. What a gift he gave us.
