    You hit the nail on the head when you said they need to tighten their quality control. I am an alterations specialist and I see dresses from many different companies and I can always tell the ones that have quality control issues and the ones that try to save money by using crappy fabric, zippers, etc. If I order from a company that offers low prices, I am always prepared to do a little work.

    I love the designs of this brand so much, so I am really grateful for the honest review. Unfortunately, I really struggle with dress shopping for a large bust anyway so I doubt the sizing of this brand would work out for me. I'd love to recreate something similar to their designs though.

      GIRLIE! I’m flat chest girlie but I saw they have dresses for curvy people! Only on the popular ones tho! But they are so pretty and elegant! (They are named curve&plus + the dress name)

      Its a problem pretty common in east Asia and especially China to size clothes too small. Then this year to last, some brands have shrank their sizes. I think it's a subliminal fat phobia, whether intentional from the designers or not.

      As long as they don't do what Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Innocent World sometimes do---it doesn't matter if there are 120 cm of fabric in the bodice if the elastic won't stretch past 105!
      I despise those "invisible zippers" with the tiny pulls that are hard to get a grip on and that will often evert and not be zippable. Sad to hear that Selkie uses them, I expect them from Amazon's Scarlet Darkness and Shein Modely, but not on a $200 dress.

  • @ArielBeasty

    • @DressMeUpScotty
      @DressMeUpScotty  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Yeah it’s sad for the girlies with chests that the bust area on these runs so small 🥲 but I did give them feedback on that so hopefully they take that into consideration for future collections.

  • @sweetalissum

    So glad to see someone reviewed this brand! I figured I was well out of their size range, and this confirms it if you're a Large and I'm far bigger than your size. It's too bad as their items seemed beautiful but I'd rather know than waste my money and emotional energy, so thank you!
    I have the same angry complaint about zippers everywhere. The first Selkie dress I ordered came with an already split zipper and I was so deeply unimpressed given the price of it. I'm a seamstress and tbh the main issue is simply that every brand, expensive or cheap, decided invisible zippers are the only kind they'll use. Invisible zippers are absolutely NOT multipurpose. They are not strong enough for the strain of anything with a waist seam, especially gathered skirts, and they aren't really meant for back closures at all. They will break on most dresses if they're remotely fitted. It's just inevitable.

    • @DressMeUpScotty
      @DressMeUpScotty  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah it can be so hard to shop online and then the mess with invisible zippers… so annoying. But I’ll be experimenting with taking those out.
      Now for the size inclusivity, I failed to mention thin they recently came out with a section that is 1XL-4XL. Obviously those sizes aren’t equivalent to US 1XL-4XL but I’m so curious as to what the actual range is. If I find any reviews of someone trying that line I’ll def have to add a pinned comment to this video.

  • @jacquelinejanewashere

    I'm so glad you reviewed this brand because I've seen a few others do it and there were no issues and I still had my suspicions, although they are beautiful dresses I'm clearly not fitting my 38c's in there lol ❤ u and your honesty

    • @DressMeUpScotty
      @DressMeUpScotty  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah I have a feeling busty gals would struggle with these. I’m wondering if the Curve and Plus section would be better for some busty gals even if it’s too big elsewhere and needs alterations. I’d have to investigate if they modified the patterns for those or if the b00bs are also smol lol.

    So cool that Lacemade found your reviews and then reached out to offer to let you pick items for free, that's awesome! I enjoyed your other reviews and glad you made another one! My favorite was the blue garden dress but when you put the sleeves on the Camellia it was a total vibe. Like you transported back in time to the time of day dresses and house dresses (agree with you that it's not giving ballgown).
    I've ordered two of their dresses so far and love both of them, though I see that they used to have some really cute jacket skit sets that they don't seem to have anymore and hope they bring back!

    I had the opposite issue with them! I measured myself and based on their sizing chart and I was supposedly a size Medium. The corset arrived and it was too big. :/I reached out to them and was told I am wrong. So I asked my friend to contact them with my exact measurements and ask a sizing advice. They said size large 😮
    I got in contact with them again to point out that both the sizing chart and their online help gives incorrect info and they pretty much ghosted me :/ sadly I do not have your sewing talent so will have to pay for someone to take the corset in if possible 😢 I would def not recommend buying from them, even if the products are pretty.

    I absolutely love lacemade, I got my Christmas dress from them, and I wear their size S, so I’ve never struggled with the cups being too small, but I have a corset top from them that has cups that are too big, which is bizarre, so I agree with your comments on the fitting.

    You looked beautiful in all that you were able to try on. Can't imagine how they could make such beautiful dresses and have a zipper flaw or arm holes that are the same diameter from one size to the next, and ESPECIALLY why they don't provide measurements for each size. Even Temu does THAT.

  • @elinat2414

    Thank you for the review! I just ordered a dress and cardigan from them yesterday. I have slightly above average sized boobs (D cup), and ordered an XL in the dress, so fingers crossed, but im really doubting it now. I really think its insane that the bust measurement barely increases as you size up. I understand that many asian ladies do not have a large bust, but they are targeting a global market, not specifically east asia and the product should reflect the needs of the consumers they are targeting. Also for the vast majority of women, regardless of background, your boobs do get bigger of you gain weight, so having larger sizes with such small busts seems insane to me.
    I think the best solution in this case would be for them to just make the dresses more stretchy or have a lace back to make it work for a variety of body types.

      I actually have it now. I wore it in a TH-cam short where I went to a gothic style cafe. I would say, as nice as it is, the zipper is ATROCIOUS. It takes all the kings horses and all the kings men to zip it up and it’s not even tight. The zipper just sucks.

    They need models, to create their dresses on, that are not asians if they want to expand their market because it's not just about sizes, it's that different races are built differently, on average. We have different ratios (bust/legs or shoulders/hips etc) and also a different way of moving while wearing clothes.
    That said: what you wear is beautiful, I have headphones on and I've already said a lot of Wows
    You have a soothing voice, btw😻

  • @yensid4294
    @yensid4294 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have found that most import clothing from Asia runs smaller than typical western sizing. Often by 2 or more sizes. Even American clothes can be challenging if you have a fuller bust & broader rib cage. I'm a G/H cup & plus size(16, 18, 20 depending). Even before sizing out of straight sizes I was a double or triple D & could never wear a tradional button down shirt, a corset top or anytthing strapless/off the shoulder. I usually look for a smocked back or smocked bodice especially if the dress is 100% cotton or has no stretch. Tie backs can help too. I've noticed that clothing relies on lycra now & rarely has bust darts, princess seams, pin tucks, gathers, etc. Everything is unlined too. And yes, the quality of zippers & buttons is absolute crap. I try & avoid back zippers if I can since I've had to replace so many. I do basic repairs/changes with hand sewing & iron on tape but I have no experience with machine sewing so alterrations must be taken to a seamstress (usually offered at dry cleaners) I would like to get a corset/vest & corset style strapless bra custom made when our finances allow it.
    The fairy dress with the barbed wire straps was gorgeous on you. I agree regarding the straps, they should have been braided from a soft fabric or slighter thicker & seamless. I get the vine aesthetic they were going for but it could have been executed more thoughtfully. But the dress was amazing aesthetically & you looked amazing in it. Hope you got to keep it & wear it 🧚‍♀️🧚‍♂️

      I’m so curious about their Curve & Plus section and how those fit... if they altered the patterns to fit curvier bodies or not.

    Make sure you always season your corset, even if it is just a fashion corset you will wear once a month, you need to season it or else you will damage the corset and your body. I tightlace daily, lucyscorsetry has a lot of good videos on corsets. I made sure to contact the corset maker before I bought my corsets to make sure they were okay for tightlacing. Do not use a cheap corset for tightlacing or daily wear. Make sure you properly season your corset, choose the proper size, ALWAYS contact the makers and send them your measurements so they can tell you what size you are and which corsets will fit you because every corset is made differently, make sure the grommets are ALWAYS straight in the back, if they are not, then you have an improper corset size. If you are very curvy like me, make sure you get a curvy corset. I have a size 24 hourglass corset, and a size 24 pear corset. I have a pear body so the pear shaped corset fits me the best. The hourglass can fit me if I keep it a bit loose, but I can fully close the top of the corset, but not the bottom. You want your corset to be the same size when you close it as much as possible, if the bottom closes more than the top, you have the wrong size or model of corset. If you are like me and you can fully close the top but not the bottom, you have the wrong size or model. Make sure you always contact the makers before you buy a corset, not every model will work for you, corsets come in a lot of different styles and sizes so they can fit every single body shape. It's not like buying a tshirt, it's very complex. Make sure you wear a properly sized corset and if you only wear a corset a handful of times a month for fashion reasons, make sure it is loose so you don't hurt yourself or the corset!

    Lol their site copy needs some serious work…grammatical errors aside, the AI generator they relied on didn’t pull a single fact about corsets accurately. Their site layout and imagery reads cute boutique, but the pricing and lack of attention to detail in the simple things on the site scream fast fashion.

    They post new plus size dresses on facebook all the time but they are never on the site to buy. They've had nothing new foe the longest time but the straight sizing is always getting new shit. It's pretty frustrating like that literally false advertising

      It’s definitely not the best, but also not bad. It’s a niche shop with specific style which tends to up the price a little. But compared to other stores I’ve tried in similar aesthetics it could be worse.
