All of us of a certain age who were there or who are watching this now wanted that special guest singer to be Marianne. That would have been emotional beyond imagining.
Hearing Marianne Faithful sing Tears again would be awesome.
Beautiful song. I've loves this since I first heard Marianne Faithful sing it back in the mid 60s.
Marianne was great!
The Rolling Stones blows Taylor swifts music away.
Johnny Thunders did a beautiful cover too
Took my son to his first Stones concert that night in Chicago and probably in hindsight I didn't appreciate this song as much as I should have at the time. Taylor was a perfect choice to come on stage and sing this particular song with Mick. Really well done.
So glad to see a positive comment in here! I love this clip
Always brings a tear to my eye.
Fan since 1966
Got my first record (45) and player X-mas 64, I was 8. Side A Satisfaction, Side B As tears go by, And so it began. My Love of the Rolling Stones.
Keith Richards accompaniment was stellar. So simple in its complexity, so to speak. That upstroke he does on the guitar, wow! I got goosebumps. Amazing guitarist.
I listened this song soon after my father passed away. Still it brings tears to my eyes.😢
Wow! Marianne was the love of my teens. This is a demolition of a lovely song!
No question that this song is best by Marianne Faithfull, especially the uptempo original ( 1964 )
The young lady the Stones gave the song to was none other than the legendary Marianne Faithfull.
Legendary for what? For leaving her husband and son, just for that tawdry Jagger guy?
One of the best Rolling Stones songs ever
YEP - so I tried German version 😭 to celebrate Keith' 8 O 🎸 PEACE ✌️
А как же "Энджи"?!)
@@s_video4570 Sorry
I don't understand Russian
roughly one word MIR -
for you'n'me for Keith
and for the whole 🌍🕊️
One of the many!
I have nieces and nephews that are Taylor Swift fans; this video opened their eyes to the Stones. If TS makes them aware of the Stones, then the Stones are embraced by a new generation and they live on with new fans
I was just sitting texting my best mate and this song just popped in my head, though it didn't come as tears go by, it entered my head as it is the evening of the day. It's 7.50pm here in London UK so it's about right.
i like it. jagger is a legend. he owns her on stage.
She’s young as hell here & obviously nervous as hell too. It wasn’t her best performance but it wasn’t that bad. When that girl is on her voice is outstanding and one of the best of her generation.
I actually DO sit and watch as tears go by....make it stop, please
The best ever Rolling Stones music from South Africa
This song is from Marianne Faithful. Very sad Copy. Amen.
This song here as tears go by is one of the first beautiful songs that Keith and Mick ever wrote!
I learned to play this song on the guitar and sing it decades ago. I still do today and love it every time. It is such a pure reminiscence of a love lost.
I thought it was a cover….. there is a earlier version
@@juliettebastiaens666 THe earlier version was by Jagger's girlfriend, but he wrote it.
Yes, he and Richards wrote. Marianne Faithfull performed it first. She and Mick were a couple at the time.
Swift seems too loud imo like she’s trying to upstage or outsing Mick.
Some parts of this weren’t too bad especially when they were singing harmony, but I feel that she was not faithful (excuse the pun) to the original intent of this song.
Again, in my opinion, it’s a sad bittersweet song, with a history, heartache, and great amount of pathos. I feel it should be sung that way. Not with attention drawn to Taylor Swift’s physicality traipsing all over the stage: “Look at Me!”
Didn’t he just say that at the start of the clip …. you don’t miss much do you , jeez. BTW Taylor Swift murders this song.
being on stage with the stones , seen many ladies not be on the mark .its nice to see the mod look for these lads ,mick was looking at his youth ,was very happy
Mick foi bondoso. A voz dela é muito alta para o dueto. A voz do Mick e totalmente demais.
Mick never stop singing...amazing
This performance, this song, underscores what a remarkable old goat Jagger really is, Half century gone by and there he is still up there singing with another beautiful child made up like Marianne Faithful. I chuckle in my old age but I do thank the old reprobate for Angie and Moonlight Mile.
Moonlights miles from Marianne.
the voice,i am runnig
Wow 🤩 We introduced our 10 year old son to this song and he said it is the best song he has ever heard in his life!! Looking forward to seeing them in Chicago this summer!!!
Get her off.. As I heard this when it came out years ago..it was hauntingingly beautiful
As a 74 year old man I do not appreciate being asked like a child if I'm still listening to the music! I often do other things while I am enjoying the music. I am often cooking or eating a meal.
Are you still listening to the music?
I'm 75 and I still love smoking freebase. I can still afford it too. Most boomers really ruined our economy. Yes - YOU
For being a pill, little Jimmy will go to bed without supper. And no music young man!
And do you fart as well?
Mick is referring to Marianne Faithful who originally sang that song. Yes, Mick wrote it, and Faithful performed it, and most know what happened to that relationship........
it's crazy how old these dudes were still out there jamming less than 10 years ago, I grew up in the 70s and 80s and the Rolling Stones were still constantly on the Radio then so it feels like they should be closer to my age instead of 20+ years older
Just - wow - on every level. This is one of my favorite Stones songs. Taylor pays homage to the '60s and shows so much respect to the company she's keeping. It's also apparent how much Mick appreciates and respects Taylor's talent. The blending of past, present and future gives me chills. In my opinion, the greatest blessing bestowed on mankind are the music makers. Music brings nothing but love, joy and peace to us all.
Indeed
Absolutely! Yet so many still complain.
Sorry, this is a poor performance. I wanted it to be good. I appreciate your sentiments, but you don't know what "quality" is.
🎶5:20pm, March 2024 I love this 🎶
Love this song.and love this beautiful band.rolling stones
Beautiful Song ... Stones... forever and ever...!!!!!
me encanta esta rola y ahi es donde se ve la voz de mick jager cuando tenia 11 o 12 años la ponia repetidas veces y cuando entre a la secundaria los rolling eran lo maximo
Lyrics :
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me
I sit and watch
As tears go by
My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch
As tears go by
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doing things I used to do
They think are new
I sit and watch
As tears go by
The Stones, Beatles, 4 Tops, Temps, among others---- back when music was music. This quallity is relatively unknown in today's market
True. I always ask why the radio diskjockeys dont plaY those songs anymore ? Of course they dont know them.
Baby boomers had the best music, greatest bands, fantastic singers. Taylor Smith should just go home.
Oooh Man, Stones always teach a lesson for younger and newbie musician....
Super cool merci les stones, les mecs sont inoubliable
Great Performance thank u for this still too 👍
A mais bela canção dos Rolling Stones! Parabéns pelo vídeo.
Beautiful rendition, the new and old is a wonderful combo. What is old can be anew, and this spells it out. Taylor is beautiful, with an understated power that she is holding back just right, and Mick makes is seem like a walk in the park, perfect. Bravo.
Her voice doesn't suit this sort of music
@@bobdillon1138 Her bum does though! 😃
Oh my! I love Mick, and I always will, but this is forever Marianne Faithful's song.

Muy lindo. Que suerte la mia por poder oirlo.
Y lo que diga va a estar de mas.
Muchas Gracias 😁
Love Love....my all time fav Stones song!!!
Whow this is a confession to one of their greatest sons. Clearly now she can measure the right tones to complete a beautiful song... Now can you believe to make your own tones
She looks like an angel.........
I dig it. song was originally written by Mick and Keith for Marianne Faithfull so has the same vibe as that 1964 version.
You've heard of nailing it, hell they murdered this great song.
This seriously gives me chills.
" micks ex girlfriends famous song " ( as time goes by ) when Marianne faithful came to australia she nearly died from a drug overdose in st vincents hospital around 1970 ( " well as time goes by a poignant song for all of us really about our poor choices we made when we were younger " ) thank god: Marianne being a stronger women turned her life around in her career and lifestyle ( " a great example for us all to follow there is light at the end of the tunnel " " and its not a freight train " )
I'm rather speechless how bad she is in this.
" at the time we gave it to .. a young Lady .. " the Angelic Marianne Faithfull of course !
before the lifestyle...
And he never mentioned her by name. He taught her sex, drugs and rock n roll- slippery slope. She was angelic, crush of my teens!
@@davidphilpott8223 And she is a great artist, still.
Well... she may have been perceived as being an "angel"...but let's see...she left her husband for Mick-bad choice!- and then, loses custody of her son...bad momma!...and then, her career tanks, and she winds up living on the streets, a hapless heroin addict. Now, as an old lady, she has the nerve to present herself as a valid recording artist...Her only fans are deluded "Boomer"-types, hanging on to a thread of the past. Jagger once said, many years ago..."If I am still prancing around the stage when I am past 40, somebody please shoot me!"...few in show business have the decency to quit when they are ahead....something to do with money, I suspect!
I grew up with the Stones and remember Marianne Faithfuls version of this song. There is only one singer today who could carry it off. Listen to Mariannes version and then just imagine Lana Del Rae singing it. Marianne was also criticised for her singing and Lana has the same kind of voice. Would love to hear her do a cover. I think it would be awesome. This song was totally sung in the wrong key for TS and even Mick struggles with it. He was right to give the song to Marianne when he did.
Nancy Sinatra also had a beautiful version with a little samba in the mix. th-cam.com/video/MJmUpoIH-g4/w-d-xo.html
Not sure what she’s doing on the stage with the greatest rock roll singer!!!
Love these two ❤
One SOULFUL SONG KEITH IN PERFECT FORM, THE WHOLE BAND IN FACT, AND RESPECTED THE STONES SO MUCH,SUCH A SONG MAN IF THAT DON'T MOVE YOU,NOTHING WILLL,Walter B,Memphis,SO GOOD MICK AND KEEF, AWESOME FOREVER, THE GLIMMER TWINS, BEST ON THE PLANET,GREAT POST..!!!😛😜😛😍😁☠😛
i got tears in my eyes from this poor performance
Love the song..... Great performance and emotional
Duets are tricky. I read all the comments below about Taylor … and what I take away is that this shows how damn good Mick is … he saw/heard the problem w TS and tried to blend his voice ever so skillfully and kindly to help TS. Good man .. and gifted singer .. he is a legend .. and has become an amazing part of all our lives along with his greatest rock 'n roll band of all time. I also think even Taylor was a tad nervous about singing with Jagger.
Great comment mate, however I must say that although the stones have played much longer than the Beatles, what the Beatles released during their time totally changed the perception of what can be done with music & still surpass the Stones up until they broke up & personally I prefer Lennon solo to the Stones as they have gone so gradually more & more commercial since 'It's only R&R' days. I still like Their Satanic Majesty's Request.
@@dimethaltryptamine1 what are Beatles ? never heard of.
@@robsonenduro3316 beatles are bigger than any american singer ever
Funguy what hearing aid are you waring , Micks voice is no better ..it suites his rock and thats it , when being drowned out by the instruments...
The ultimate showman -
Muy buena presentacion de lo Stones con esta belleza
excellent and nostalgic balad
Absolute pure sound
A melhor banda do universo! Pois, ainda está na estrada!
I can't believe Taylor Swift couldn't sing out of a studio.
believe it, but today they can replicate studio techniques onstage.
Eu amo a música do rolling stones
心に染み渡る…
This song composed by Mig Jagger is one of the romatic songs of the Rolling Stones
Mig ...
romatic...
Mick never wrote this despite getting credited for it, Keith and Brian where the composers.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️the best Rocking Roll band in the world...
Yessssss the best Band forever and ever ROLLING STONES ROCK & ROLL 🔥😎🔥😎🔥😎
Taylor didn't do this beautiful song justice. There was no emotion in her voice, she just shouted it. Marianne knew exactly how to sing it.
No feeling, poor time, can't sustain notes, shaky intonation - An absolute amateur. Sounds like some kid, maybe a contest winner, they pulled of the street to sing with Mick.
Vocals by the lady make us realize how great a vocalist Mick is. One of the best ever.
hold on they kept cutting her mick
"the lady" is called taylor swift 😃
@@charlottefeyaerts I discovered that after posting my comment. I don't mean disrespect but today's music is just filler and artists are largely devoid of talent. Just consider the way this A Lister of modern day failed to sing the RS song correctly.
@@charlottefeyaerts, That's no "lady" that's my Grand niece. Maybe not so "grand".
@@sh230968 no shame, taylor swift is an embarrassement compared to the rolling stones
Es un temazo. Lo ponen en unas escenas de una película de cuando los Stones estuvieron en Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, México.
Imagine if Marianne faithful came out? It would be perfect. Absolute full circle. poignant. The lyrics are perfect. Can you imagine? It's living history
Or 20 minutes
Ronna Strang I Hope so...That was Awful😣
Mjck screwed Marianne.
@@kevinthistle6234 Marianne screwed everyone.
I would love it! Even more than Mick Taylor joining. For me, seeing Marianne up there with Mick, I’d only see the Marianne of the past. That soft, beautiful kind face!
Волшебно! Неповторимо! Бессмертно!
I remember years ago I had a CD of Songs from The Children of Lir and this song was on it sung by Marion Faithful and I loved it so much, really beautiful... Did not know who wrote it... Regards from Ireland 🍀🇮🇪💚
Marianne Faithful wrote and sang it, before her and Mick met.
@@juandoez3031 Thank you so much for that information, she was beautiful back then... 🇮🇪
@@juandoez3031 KR and MJ wrote it.
How did Taylor Swift make it on the stage with Mick. Really??? Gentle jesus. One of the many wonders of the world I guess.
All my wine glasses shattered as soon as she started singing!!!
Of course they did, Swiftie.
Sorry Taylor…. The Stones don’t use auto tune 😂
Yes, her voice really isn't good!
@@BARNOWLFLEDGLINGS sadly autotune made mediocre singers into great singers. A professional singer would know how to soften it.
And a bit more... listen to Marianne sing on Broken English... one of the best ever gutsy female series of songs... Amy Winehouse is the only one I can think of who can challenge her recently. (Of course, there is Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Ertha Kitt, Billie Holiday, Dusty Springfield etc., all of whom went before...)
Los Stones tienen muy bellas canciones por no decir todas es que son muy buenos
Absolutely Brilliant*************************************************
Love it
Wonderful !!!!
Some of the Most Recognized People on the Planet 🌍
she seriously puts Mick off his notes. Luckily he drags her back in tune
Hard to believe that was intended as a serious performance -- wouldn't have believed how bad it was without the video.
She's quite the dreambot. As far as tears go, they hit me at unusual times, and not often. But I really do have plenty to cry about.
Not least her terrible voice. 🤮
À medida que as lágrimas passam !!! muito show essa musica
That song was definitely written for Mick to sing-alone
I liked Marianne she had such a sweet voice there's no comparison !!
Agreed. Taylor Swift has murdered this song. Absolutely no emotion in her voice. Sound like a 9 year old taking her first singing lesson.
Yes, An even though it's no my generation at all, even I know 'BRoken English' was a work of art. Marianne was human, and not afraid to show it, that's it!
I like the stones version as well.
Agreed...I listened to her then I listened to this...and then I almost wept because I was listening to a murder.
Taylor definitely struggling in too high a key. Surprised this wasn't addressed before the performance
Nails on a chalkboard
Great how he let her shine. I liked her rough treatment of the song. Mick loved it!
To be fair Jagger didn't seem comfortable with the opening bars either but he "found it" pretty quickly. Taylor improved but missed on much of it. It's too bad. I'd like to have seen her do well. Give Jagger credit. He was trying to help when he saw her falter.
Ok, Brian... but hay! he did or does look quite shocked
This is an example of looking the part, but not being the part - at all.
Beautiful 🎉
genial me encanto
DAMN that was painful
Uhmmmm... yeah. KDM
Don't you know the lyrics were only
...ay ay ay, um um um, and err err err... 😂
yes superb
Keith plays his guitar so beautifully...
That girl has murdered a great song
She completely buggered that up!
Crying
Great job 👏
I never heared about Taylor Swift before seen this video. But here in duett with Mick Jagger: Another aspect to this nice song. Great!
Never heard about Taylor Swift in what possible way? Lol
@@MsBJMoore Simply I did'nt knowing her before I seen this video
Murdered that song
