I like your choice of leave trees and their spacing. That gelding looks like he could walk away with any log you could cut.

Amish use them for farming, planting, & harvesting, pulling heavy loads of crops, & helping in winters when the ‘English’ need help.

They’re working in a forest that belongs to trappist monks, who like to do things the old way. If it was a normal farmer or forester, he would use machinery just like anyone else. Working with draft horses has become more a folkloric thing dor the cameras or for tourists i’m afraid.

There is hardly a job more satisfying in agriculture than logging with a good& magnificent looking horse and continue a laudable tradition. Unfortunately in this case the tradition also includes a tail docked so short that the horse cannot benefit from it; while at this time that may not be important, in summer it will.
