The FOREFATHER project was born in September 1997 in Surrey, England by founding members and brothers Athelstan and Wulfstan. The aim was to create powerful and epic Metal tributes to their Anglo-Saxon ancestors, straight from the heart and of the highest quality.
937! Northern England!!! Saxon Men defeat Dublin Vikings and celts! one of Englands finest Victories!
Hail Saxon England!
Anglo-Saxon elite!
Our lord of warriors eternal glory won
By the sword's edge at Brunanburh
Smashed the shield-wall and drove them from the land
The enemy doomed they fell and the field was dark with blood
Shot with spears, the crushed assailants fled
In revenge we rode them down and the vanquished took to sea
Edward's sons victorious in war
Made mountains of the slain and the wolves and crows did feast
Great slaughter made and the fields of Britain tamed
Lord of the fyrd, he fared north and he held his sway
Mastery claimed and the hearts of the beaten shamed
Engla Cyning - Rex Totius Britaniae!
Legend made at Brunanburh
Mighty victory has no name
In the shadow of Senlac's fame
Words that glorify on a withered page
Lost in the myth of a dark age
Ne wearð wæl mare
on þis eiglande æfre gieta
folces gefylled beforan þissum
sweordes ecgum, þæs þe us secgað bec,
ealde uðwitan, siþþan eastan hider
Engle and Seaxe up becoman,
ofer brad brimu Brytene sohtan,
wlance wigsmiþas, Wealas ofercoman,
eorlas arhwate, eard begeatan.
Thank you
proud of my scottish heritage. even though it was a loss for the scots, there is nothing bad about fighting your hardest and facing such a battle. the peoples of the british isles/north sea are a strong people indeed
Indeed! They're actually kin and brethren, more than we (or they) realise(d)... (i.e. Celts & Germanics are actually the closest 'cousins' among the IE family)...
Descendants of an ancient nobility
The Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons were enemies, I whole heartedly agree with the people who object to this being called Viking metal. If the Vikings hadn't depleted our forces and dragged us to the wrong end of the country at Stanford Bridge (although this was one of the greatest victories in the annals of English history) we may not have lost the Battle of Hastings. The Norwegians are indirectly responsible for the destruction of our heritage!
Shivers down this Anglian spine! \m/
hey freawulf one day you should do a music video of this with last kingdom seven kings must die i could imagine it🤘
@@Beorneofmercia449 Great idea! If only I had the time... :(
Additionally, William and his forces were of Norwegian descent, and quite recent, they had only been fully assimilated as Normans for roughly 100 years, (not counting the initial 50 or 60 that they spent marrying the local women, settling, etc.) William the Conqueror is a direct ancestor of mine, but so are several Anglo-Saxon kings and lords, and it is for this reason that I do not take sides on the issues but am proud of all of them for the good they did.
When it comes to folk influenced metal there's no doubt about it
Forefather are the top of the league
This battle was the climax of my novel, The Raven & the Wolf.
holy crap, this is bloody awesome! hail from Mercia!
Last kingdom seven kings must die be like:
Truly Great!!!! \m/
Very inspired song and band.
@moep That's what I keep trying to tell people. Folk Metal with Anglo-Saxons as the subject of their music.
forefather steadfast album cover would make great poster to stick on the bedroom wall.
I love the Vikings, but wow...

@Elvydnir Wow, I did not expect anyone to reply to that comment! Strangely, that was one of the few comments I actually remember writing. Also, it's surprising to think that I've been listening to forefather for more than two years now. Feels like less!
hail my Forefather Olaf The Black!
I hope they will sing also about defeats as the battle of maldon ;D
The English fought nobly there too.
Winterfylleth made a song about that
Intro sounds like mother north by satyricon
ANGLO-SAXON METAL
You've got some great songs there! They could benefit from vocals of some sort though.
Keep playing though!
Maybe, but Maldon was a skirmish compared to Brunanburh.
HAIL WODEN
anglo saxons and the vikings where cousins, dunno why peeps alwys trying to argue on these threads what is pro and anti viking. the anglo saxons came over a few hundred years earlier is all.
True! Germanic brethren!
