    I have heard Abhogi Kanahara of Panditji some where in the year 1970 or 71 at Rangabhavan , Dhobitalao , Mumbai during State Music Festival. For many days the tunes of the ragas were circulating in my head and rather hypnotized me. Panditji was awarded Padmashree that year by Govt. Of India. If not, then that would have been great insult to the artist of his stature who was became after wards Bharat Ratna.

    Many thanks for this gem. Unfortunately, Pt Bhimsen Joshi didn't sing Rag Abhogi too frequently. His voice, technique and emotion he brought to bear on his music are ideally suited to render such soulful raags. But one doesn't find too many of these; nor any of his singing Raag Bairagi.

    • @FarhanAmin1994
      @FarhanAmin1994 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, he did sing ragas like Abhogi, Chhayanat, Marwa a good deal but perhaps not as much as the other nightly ragas like Yaman, Puriya, Puriya Kalyan, Puriya Dhanashree, Shuddha Kalyan, Darbari, Malkauns

      What perhaps made Abhogi special for him and other Kirana-walas is the fact Abdul Karim Khan was probably the first Hindustani musician to perform and record this Carnatic raga. In fact, Abhogi is believed to be Gangubai Hangal's favorite raga.

      nope raag abhogi by bhimsen joshi isn't rare ..and yes i agree on raag bairagi bhairav..i haven't heard it by bhimsen ji.

      I don't know about others, but I really think the one of the best things that Pt Bhimsen ji did after his Todi and Puriya is Gaud Sarang. So very well composed.

      @@FarhanAmin1994 Sure he did. But it is hard to find them on CD. I'm looking for his Abhogi -- complete concert -- from his younger days; his voice was at its best in the 1970's. So if you are aware of any, please post here. All I can find is an 8 or 13 minute rendition.

      In Karnataka style it is called Abhogi. It is borrowed into.Hindustani style with the same name.

    • @muraliiyer4137
      @muraliiyer4137 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chitrasenbhat8713 For one, it is not "Karnataka style." It is a Carnatic ragam in which the top few composers in Telugu, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada have created kritis. Secondly, there is nothing "borrowing" from one another. Both Carnatic and Hindustani have variations of the same raga such as Malkauns (Hindolam) Yaman (Kalyani) to name just two, though there are plenty.

      @@muraliiyer4137 chitrasen bhat is correct
      There is borrowing
      All 7 surs are there in the nature - that’s does not mean no borrowing
      There is borrowing definitely and nothing wrong with that or nothing to be ashamed of
      The raga hamsadhwani created by Ramaswamy Dikshitar father of Muthuswamy Dikshitar- everyone knows this in history itself - then this raga Hamsadhwani became popular in Carnatic and then Hindustani also took and they have sung it most beautifully in their style also
      Similarly we have borrowed Yamuna kalyani and pilu and hameer kalyani and jog raaga and darbari Kanhara ragam into the Carnatic system

      So what?Feel extremely sorry for your comment. Karnataka or Hindustani aren’t our Indian music styles? Why in this cheap way we differentiate.Music is music, period. Hope you enjoy this outstanding Abhogi by our legend. If you don’t like it, it’s ok. It’s Hindustani, I understand.God bless.
